I do not support the federal officers going out patrolling the streets of Portland, but I do support them guarding the actual federal buildings with whatever force is needed to do so.
....even if the governor did not request their assistance? Doesn't that go against everything conservatives once stood for regarding states rights?
federal property. the interiors of which have federal protection and not local authority in a security role. So yes. even if the governor or mayor didnt ask.  They just need to go no further than the sidewalks surrounding said federal property.
Now the governors need to call up their national guards to stand facing those fucks and protect their states citizens exercising their rights.

Exactly, I’m glad someone gets it!
frankly I think the feds should have asked for state and local help to block access to these facilities
I agree. Unfortunately, the states this is happening in do not have leadership willing to ask for federal support at this time as that would be seen as siding with Trump.
Your theory about states being reluctant to seek federal support for fear of being seen as supporting trump would be awesome if a ton of blue states hadn’t been asking for federal support in dealing with the pandemic.

    Edit:

That’s a great point!  So either the state politicians don’t feel the need to protect federal buildings or they are afraid of protecting them on any level.  Because they were definitely at risk of being burned down, there was plenty of evidence of that.
How many federal buildings have actually been burned down in Oregon?
They set the federal courthouse in Portland on fire. Not sure about any other federal buildings.

Kind of. Fireworks set off nearby started debris in the street and by the fence on fire. The building itself, no.
    It's a hopeless situation...

I can't believe Trump insists on pushing this point, when he just looks stupider each time.  Wallace embarrassed him the other day, and now there is just more fodder.  It's hilarious.  This is going to be all the rage for the next few days, until Trump does something else.

    This is from last night.

Got anything from before the federal stormtroopers moved in?

I'm trying to understand why conservatives are making excuses for fascism in the streets of America, and so far I've seen little to no evidence that the Portland authorities were allowing federal buildings to be destroyed to the point where federal thugs needed to be mobilized to march through the streets assaulting peaceful protesters & making secret arrests.

Some Elk statue thing was burned down....

And I guess where the statue used to stand is a popular place for fires now....

No payroll tax cut in the Senate bill.  So much winning for Trump.

But let's not forget the situation.  Democrats passed their bill two months ago, in anticipation of the expiration of relief in one week.  But Republicans in the Senate and the WH are frantically trying to get something done.  Why?  Who knows.  It could be because McConnell is so useless he can't advance a bill unless staring over a cliff.  Or it could be because they all believed in magic, and that the virus would just disappear in the summer.  Either way, it's hard to see a scenario where at least one check isn't missed at this point.

I knew someone would respond like this. He’s the guy that’s posts videos of this stuff. Whether he’s biased or not (which he is) doesn’t matter cause they’re not fake videos. It's just as biased on the other side to show Trump's "stormtroopers" arresting people and not show the stuff that Ngo shows.

I don't condone mobs tearing down / burning statues, regardless of what those statues symbolize (mobilize and get them removed the right way).

I also don't condone federal troops making secret arrests because people lit fire to 'some elk statue thing', do you?   (For what it's worth, it wasn't "burned down" which I infer as being destroyed, it was damaged when protesters lit fire to it. The regional arts council had it removed for safety. Semantics? Perhaps, but words matter.)

While on the subject, is that elk even on federal property? I understand it sits near the justice center, but is it federal jurisdiction? & even if it is, does the burning of it justify violating other people's 1st amendment rights (among others)?

Side note, but still related: Are federal buildings in Albuquerque being threatened as well? Because they plan to send these secret police there too.

lastly: Andy Ngo is an 'interesting' source to say the least. I'm not refuting what you're relaying from him here, but he has a pretty interesting backstory.
