On a similar topic, I'm not sure that Trump's taxes should be publicly released unless it shows some sort of criminality (which, by definition it really can't). It gives him ammunition that he is being unfairly persecuted. I guess one argument is that he has declared himself a candidate, but does anyone think he's a real one?
He’s also been claiming that he’d release them for the past seven years and that he would release them after the IRS finished auditing them. POOTWH should offer up a compelling argument as to why they shouldn’t be released, particularly as he’s made numerous claims to his wealth, charitable giving and no nefarious business dealings or massive amount of debt holdings. If the only reason is to save him from embarrassment to the aforementioned, fuck him. If your concern is setting a precedent and that anyone’s tax returns could be released, poppycock. And if you intend on running for POTUS, release your tax returns. Shouldn’t be an issue if you’ve got nothing to hide.
No, my argument is that he's a private citizen at this point. What he failed to do during his presidency or the real run is immaterial to what D's should do today. If he was currently president, then absolutely. If it appears he's actually running, then go ahead and release them. To me, he's a "nothing" today, damaged and useless. If anything, it will give him a little life so he can play a victim.
He’s a declared candidate for POTUS. The FEC gave him a 45 day extension to file his disclosures. Fuck him. He continues to get away with shit because nobody holds him accountable. Release his taxes and let the chips fall where they may. Use the excuse that the Congress needs to show why there needs to be some level of checks and balances as to who can be eligible to run other than age and where you’re born. An informed citizenry is important.
THIS all goddamned day. Loudmouthed piece of shit. GO already.
Donald Trump May Have Had 'Tens of Millions of Dollars' in Tax Write Offs
Donald Trump may have benefited from "tens of millions of dollars" in tax write offs that were "claimed without adequate substantiation," according to a member of the House Ways and Means Committee.
You really should read the January 6th Committee’s summary report. It’s very well organized and well written. It’s astounding to read what was happening behind the scenes as I had watched specific scenes on television that fateful day. It’s time stamped and interspersed with witness testimony, tweets and quotes from key players and criminals. POOTWH should be sitting in a cell awaiting trial.
Paid zero income taxes in 2020. Aren’t you glad you donated to him or bought a POOTWH NFT? “I love the uneducated.” Suckers.

The audit thing bothers me...the IRS is supposed to audit the president's return every year. tRump clearly avoided that until someone questioned it and then an audit started.
And we are to believe that the audits of Comey and McCabe were random? Fuck this...this warrants its own investigation into Mnuchin and the IRS director Rettig.

And Rettig owned two properties (condos I assume) in a tRump resort and rents them out, etc.
He supposedly bought the properties years ago but holy shit what a conflict.

Senate Finance Committee should open an investigation in the new term. Sheldon Whitehouse is very capable at following the money.
ownership of hotel properties where foreign governments are putting money in your fucking pocket would kinda go against the emoulments clause of the Constitution of the United States. You know, that document elected members of government swear to uphold preserve and or defend , including the president?
maybe I'm reading our founding document wrong.
I think the hotels he owns are public knowledge. Tax returns are not going to show which gov't are staying the night at the hotels.
what you think or what I think is really irrelevant. Is Congress within its purview to release records such as these by law. Seems they can. And should.
I agree that it's up to the Ways and Means committee now, but I'm not sure it is helpful to release the taxes of a private citizen. I'm sure it will be weaponized by the right in some way.
Coming back to this point my old pal Suozzi (on the w and m committee, for at least a few more hours) clued me into a little fact I wasn’t sure about..that all presidents are subject to mandatory tax audits, and despite trump claiming he was, and that was the reason he wasn’t releasing his taxes publicly, never in fact was audited by the irs.
so we have level on top of level of potential crimes. Did Mnuchin forget to perform the audit, or was he coerced not to do so? Secondly, any violations of law such as emoluments clause, should we reward presidents for this behavior, by giving them incentive to run out the clock and say “too bad clock ran out, I am no longer subject to public scrutiny!” Nothing like 700 million eyeballs to keep future presidential candidates honest on their taxes and financial relationships, both domestic and international . Too bad many Americans disagree.

Yes, the IRS failed in its obligations. I'm not sure that means the taxes need to be released in order to hammer the IRS.

I don’t care about hammering the IRS. If Trump coerced his minions to not follow law, then yes, laws need to be enforced. But if we let the clock run out on trump releasing taxes, what’s to stop DeSantis from financial irregularities and lying about it publicly? Let’s have Putin help pick the next president. Or maybe MBS. Might as well have a ceremony and burn the emoluments clause. The official one at the national archives, not some fake housed at the now closed ten club warehouse. Let’s destroy it if we ain’t enforcing it.
Let the trumpsters like @lindamarie73 see what their votes are doing to the constitution
Not really sure why we have any laws if some of the most important ones impacting the most important people are not enforced.

No laws were broken though. The IRS issue is a policy break, not a law. And releasing them now doesn't change any calculation for Desantis. If you're hiding something, you're not going to release them.
