Angry Nancy Pelosi Slams Young House Progressives As Tiny Squad With No Support

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has issued a surprisingly scathing attack on the gutsy crew of progressive freshmen women in the House of Representatives, dismissing them as a tiny squad who have a “public whatever,” but no backing in Congress.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) shot back on Twitter later saying that the “public whatever” is public sentiment.” She added: “Wielding the power to shift it is how we actually achieve meaningful change in this country.”

Pelosi’s harsh comments followed a quote from a spokesman for Ocasio-Cortez in a Washington Post op ed  Friday that the “greatest threat to mankind is the cowardice of the Democratic Party.” The young squad of Pelosi critics also includes Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.).

Pelosi attacked the women in an interview with New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd published Saturday as she defended herself against criticism (including in the Huffpost story “What The Hell Is Nancy Pelosi Doing?”) that she’s caving into the Republicans.

She has come under particular attack for her push to pass the Senate Republican bill (instead of the House version) increasing border funds without humanitarian guarantees for detained immigrants, particularly children.

Pelosi insisted that the bill — which the squad of four voted against — was the strongest she could get.

“All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world,” Pelosi said, referring to the women. “But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.”

She blamed the shortcomings of the border bill on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), whom she described as “authentically terrible.”

“With all due respect, the press likes to make a story that is more about Democrats divided than the fact that Mitch McConnell doesn’t care about the children,’’ she said.

“If the left doesn’t think I’m left enough, so be it,” Pelosi concluded defiantly. “As I say to these people, come to my basement. I have these signs about single-payer from 30 years ago. I understand what they’re saying. But we have a responsibility to get something done, which is different from advocacy. We have to have a solution, not just a Twitter fight.”

She got her ass handed to her by Cocaine Mitch. GOP using the fact they have no soul or shame against the democrats.

I'm still waiting for her long game strategy to become apparent, better come soon because she looks weak getting pushed around like that.
It's Chuck's job to keep the Senate caucus together,  not hers.

There are two standout items to me in theat Yahoo article.  First the quote from Team AOC that the Democratic party cowardice is the greatest threat to mankind. It fits perfectly with what I've been saying about AOC penchant for exaggeration and over statement.  It's ridiculous.

Second,  Nancy is dead on that advocacy and legislation are different jobs.  AOC can't wear both hats at once and be effective.

This seems like a good summary of why we’re where we are.  I don’t entirely agree that there’s no left or right...but I agree it has changed and most should be on the same side fighting corruption.

Everyone knows Trump is an idiot.  You'd think the speech writer for the President would be able to write a historical speech by fact-checking...the speechwriter either is sabotaging Trump or is just plain lazy.
or it could have been a mistake.  Perhaps he meant seaports, since Baltimore was and still is a place for many ships to come into the country.  Oh well he fucked up and just like everybody did to BO they jump on it and beat it to death.  All in all he kept his promise yesterday there was no political pandering, it was a salute to the military and Air Force (just kidding my Air Force vets).  There were people hoping for rain for yesterday, why so millions of people can have their BBQs ruined for their hatred of him.  There were protest yesterday people burning flags, I just do not get it.  Too many on the extreme left and right seem to have hijacked this country and the ones in the middle are the ones who need to fight to get it back.
So in your honest opinion who gas caused the division/discord of this country?
Sorry for the delay, with the holiday and other things I stepped away from the computer for a few days.  In my opinion there is not one person to blame for this.  Collectively it is politicians, media and simple minded people.  Do I think the POTUS has divided the country?  He has his part as well as every other politician that panders to people when they speak.  There so much that has driven people apart, but I also believe there are many good people in this country and world.  However, good people do not see, so all we see is the bad.

is that quote actually real or is it in the same vein as where he said he'd run as a republican because they are the dumbest voters?

    No blaming anyone for dying.

But if you do something dumb like going to NK and stealing a poster (something as petty as that) can carry serious repercussions.  Are the laws unjust in NK...of course they are...and if you are taking that risk...if things turn out bad, that was the risk you choose.
No blaming anyone for being raped.

But if you do something like walk around late at night in jeans and a sweater (something as modest as that) can carry serious repercussions.  Are rapists bad...of course they are...and if you are taking that risk...if things turn out bad, that was the risk you choose.

Talking about division. Maybe you need like 5-8 parties, like otehr countries, to spread people out a little instead of forcing everyone into two camps - LIBERAL and RIGHTWINGED-NUTS with a big chasm between.

Maybe evens it out a bit. With or without Trump holding court in the racist party.

I'd love to have more parties...the two-party system has always been more bad than good.

Of course, right now, we're teetering on the edge of being a one-party system...so hopefully we can salvage the second party before moving on to better things.

    Can he be pardoned?
It's from the SDNY (Southern District of New York) not from the Feds, so no, the President cannot pardon someone who is charged by a state.

SDNY is federal court.  He could be pardoned after a conviction.

Right, I was thinking of getting him off before he faced justice.

I don't think that it would be a good look to most people for Trump to pardon a convicted pedophile.  I could be wrong though. I thought Hillary was going to win.

He endorsed an accused pedophile for the Senate...so this wouldn't be too much of a leap. That said, I don't think he'd pardon anybody for any reason prior to the 2020 election just because, like you said, it might look bad and hurt him politically.
