Joe Scarborough made a good point on his show this morning about Mitch McConnell.
I hate McConnell as much as anyone but I give him credit for pushing tRump down the stairs.
This week he denounced the censure of Kinzinger and Cheney but Scarborough was pointing out his kick in the nuts to tRump on 1/6/21 when McConnell forced the Senate back to accept that Biden had won that night.
He could have easily deferred it to the next day or even the next week but he clearly used that as a message to tRump and tRumpsters.
Hats off to tortoise face.

Hillary selling “but her emails” hats. I’m not a fan, but good for her.
honestly though. who would buy one of those?
libs are typically not as jingoistic as the redhats.
Scenario: The Democrats somehow run Hillary in 2024. She somehow beats Trump. The Trump campaign sues everyone it can think of. Ultimately the Supreme Court overturns the election because of the huge disparity in sales between MAGA hats and Email hats. The Majority Opinion is authored by Kavanaugh and says: "I mean just look at how many MAGA hats there are. And who bought the "email hats?" Like, I don't know, Barbara Striesand and Susan Sarandon? Yeah, they're famous, but they're just two people. People bought Trump hats in droves. A few hundred of the Hillary hats, coupled with tiny rallies in comparison with THOUSANDS of MAGA hats and HUGE rallies? The Court finds that to be sufficient evidence that there is no way Clinton defeated the guy who's campaign paid off my loans Trump.

Donald J. Trump’s longtime accounting firm cut ties with his family business last week amid ongoing criminal and civil investigations into whether Mr. Trump illegally inflated the value of his assets, court documents filed on Monday show.
In a letter to the Trump Organization on Feb. 9, the accounting firm notified the company of its decision and disclosed that it could no longer stand behind annual financial statements it prepared for Mr. Trump. The firm, Mazars USA, compiled the financial statements based on information the former president and his company provided.
The letter instructed the Trump Organization to essentially retract the documents, known as statements of financial condition, from 2011 to 2020. In the letter, Mazars noted that the firm had not “as a whole” found material discrepancies between the information the Trump Organization provided and the actual value of Mr. Trump’s assets. But given what it called “the totality of circumstances,” the letter directed the Trump Organization to notify anyone who received the statements that they should no longer rely on them.
The statements, which Mr. Trump used to secure loans, are at the center of the two law enforcement investigations into the former president and his company. The Manhattan district attorney’s office and the office of the New York attorney general, Letitia James, have been investigating whether Mr. Trump used the statements to defraud his lenders into providing him the best possible loan terms.

It seems odd to me that tRump would only be required to provide "compiled" statements. That is the lowest form of assurance that can be given by an accounting firm.
Compiled is the lowest...then "Reviewed" financial statements, then Audited statments
I can't imagine how/why a bank would only rely on compiled statements for the amount of debt he had. I also wonder why the accounting firm didn't insist on at least a review engagement to protect themselves.
Odd

Despite decades of default worries, lawsuits, and acrimony, Deutsche Bank officials are said to have ignored deep internal concerns about Donald Trump and his finances and loaned him billions of dollars and introduced him to wealthy investors—including Russians—who were looking to keep their real-estate dealings anonymous. Dark Towers: Deutsche Bank, Donald Trump, and an Epic Trail of Destruction, a new book by New York Times Financial Editor David Enrich due Feb. 18, reports that, in 2006, the German banking giant’s employees organized get-togethers for Trump and a Los Angeles partner with its rich clients—including some Russians—“who used anonymous shell companies to buy units” in a Hawaii hotel complex the future president was developing. Enrich reports that Deutsche, which has been caught enabling money-laundering for Russian oligarchs and misleading financial regulators in three countries, also helped Trump create “special purpose vehicles” that made it “easier for him quietly and inexpensively to acquire international properties for himself and his companies.” The financial entities also helped “the mogul strike under-the-radar deals in far-flung locales, including some that were popular destinations for people looking to hide assets,” an excerpt of the book reads.
The book claims a reckless pursuit of profits by Deutsche executives and compartmentalized sets of bankers led to the Trump loans, but they did come after officials fretted over his ties to organized-crime figures in Atlantic City and New York and concerns that his projects “were laundromats for illicit funds from countries like Russia, where oligarchs were trying to get money out of the country.” In the end, Enrich writes the entire real-estate industry was dealing with such “flight capital” and “the loans looked profitable, the relationship felt valuable, and the concerns went unheeded.”

I wouldn't go that far. He's spending millions on legal fees and is being attacked on all angles. I don't call that winning. Winning in my world is not having your company indictment, not having your accounting firm disavow your statements, not having a select committee set up specifically because of your activities. This is not winning. It's not jail, but it ain't winning.
