I suspect there is no defined purpose. He is mentally and emotionally defective and has no proper concept of much of anything that matters. People keep trying to think he's clever or knows exactly what he is doing, because believing otherwise about a POTUS is just too disturbing and bizarre, especially when all the evidence saying how fucked up he is was there before he was elected. I think he is just acting on instinct minute to minute, aided by an insane ego and sense if entitlement that keeps telling him he'll be fine.... the terrible part is that it keeps working for him because of the idiocy and/or moral corruption of those who support him. So he likely feels that he has no reason to do anything differently. As long as he's squeaking through by the skin if his teeth, he feels like he's going to be okay. And I am not sure he's going to be proven wrong. The one thing he's most right about is the stupidity and/or nastiness and/or gullibility and/or desperation of enough people to keep him going.

Everything I have read states that Congress has more than enough evidence to impeach or at least hold impeachment hearings...at this point Congress needs to get the ball rolling...maybe point fingers at Congress and start telling the idiots to do there job.

Agreed it feels like the Democrats are afraid !
It's political for sure, and I agree they are afraid. Doesn't Congress poll historically low? Then what would they have to lose? their jobs I guess...
Cases far smaller and less important than this one are dismissed by courts regularly for a number of reasons including insufficient evidence (and that's when we feel the courts are being impartial). I feel if there was ever a time to not rush in prior to having all your ducks in a row, this is it. A failed impeachment would almost definitely lead to a major DNC-discrediting campaign from the RNC, and I feel that would increase Trump's base's likelihood to vote for him again in greater numbers than the increase to the DNC base to vote him out.
Not helping matters is the ridiculously large roster of DNC candidates, where you could have a similar situation as the last election - people believing in candidate over party, and committing their votes to them even if it means both party and candidate lose, but that's a tangent from the topic at hand.

Recent polling has shown a 5% increase in the number of Americans who support impeachment hears. It’s now at 45%. The number of former AGs who would have indicted Team Trump Treason is now 800+. If and when more obstruction is overcome and malfeasance is exposed, you’ll see those numbers go up, a critical mass will be reached and impeachment hearings will begin. Timing is everything. As one shrub Administration official once famously stated, “you don’t sell a war in August.” The dems want this to be a campaign issue and tie up the house over the summer leading into the fall campaign season. And by then, we’ll know a lot more about the crimes that have been committed. If not, voters will be scratching their heads because if,
“There was no collusion.”
“I have nothing to hide.”
“I don’t know any Russians.”
“I’ll sit down and talk with anyone.”
“We do everything by the book.”
“Only the guilty plea the fifth.”
“Very legal, very cool.”
“Fully exonerated.”
Why aren’t they cooperating and coming clean. What are they hiding?

The republicans are going to do all that anyways, impeachment or not.

The ridiculous number of candidates will work itself out as ultimately it’ll be whittled down to one candidate to face Team Trump Treason and voters will have a decision to make. Policy disagreements aside, they can be debated and voted upon, will you vote for someone who constantly lies, puts children in cages, coddles despots, and tramples the constitution or vote for someone who better upholds America’s values, respects the constitution and separation of powers and co-equal branches of power?

and wasn't pro-impeachment sentiment around the same for nixon when it started, and increased as the proceedings went on? or am I wrong?

Who knows. There wasn't the constant stream of polling like we have now.

Correct. The repubs and public got on board when the tapes were made public where it was shown that he had foreknowledge of the break in and encouraged obstruction of justice. I see a similar situation playing out now except everything will be a court battle and take time. Team Trump Treason will try to run out the clock, hence why congress’ oversight role is key. Getting the tax returns, Team Mueller’s testimony, follow up appearances of witnesses before committees, unredacted Team Mueller Report, as well as learning what the other 14 ongoing investigations that spun out of the Team Mueller investigation consists of. It’s a slow agonizing process as it should be but it’s already gaining momentum because Team Trump Treason and CYA Barr weren’t “fully exonerated,” and they’re not being transparent or cooperative. One poster spiked the ball way too soon. 28-12.

Gee, do you think the opening choir to the Stones’ Can’t Always Get What You Want is looped and it sends the evangelicals into orgasms? That people attend his rallies and laugh at such comments. So, if we can’t call them deplorable, what is the appropriate descriptor?
