While I previously mentioned that I was lucky by camping out in 2014 to get all of the Winkles and BTAC, I've actually never seen the (much cheaper) Weller 12 in Canada, would love to snag one of those.

Know if this is any good? http://www.bcliquorstores.com/product/662841
It's good for the price. I had mentioned it in a previous post. It's next to impossible to get in many US States, now because it's referred to as the "poor mans pappy". Basically it's a wheater, like Pappy/Winkles and like Makers. There are very few wheaters out there. I think it's just ok. Has a lot of hype because of what's set out in my previous comments. Don't expect to buy it to gain value. But if you want to try it against rye finished bourbons (to see what you prefer) then it is a Really Solid buy at that price.

If anyone is looking for a new "daily drinker" of sorts, I suggest Wathen's. $30-40 and damn good... Just a fleeting thought as I sip on some. A slight burn and then some kind of great flavor explosion.

    Yep.

That's not a very flattering review. I agree that the finish isn't a long one, but I think there is a nice flavor explosion that goes understated in the review. And, for $30-40 (closer to $30 here), I think it is a great value.

Anyone here from Ontario score a bottle of pappy? I didn't get any emails so I'm assuming I didn't win.

For anyone in Ontario looking for some pappy you can go to the LCBO site and hit there vintages link and at the top of the page go to special offers.
They have some pappy there you can buy online.
They don't ship outside of Ontario on the site I'm looking at. Not sure what it's like in other provinces.
And coming from an LCBO site no need to worry about fake juice

Good luck. I entered for 3.

    How about you pacer?

A bottle of Pappy is definitely a holy grail for me. A liquor store about an hour from me sold 10 bottles (at cost) about a month ago. I planned to show up 12 hours early to stand in line for one, only to find that there were already 10 people in line about 16 hours before the start of the sale. I plan to show up there that early, or earlier, next year if they do it the same way again. In the meantime I'll just have to settle for $45 - $80 pours whenever I can find them...

My upstairs collection (about 25 bottles bunkered downstairs).

Very nice. Weller Special Reserve is my go-to. Best bang for the buck in my opinion. Getting very hard to find in these parts, however.

For what it's worth, me and 5 friends from BC entered that Ontario draw (all Winkles, BTAC, and Weller 12), and none of us heard back. I expected that the winkles/BTAC would be a long shot, but thought at least one of us might score a Weller 12. Still, no luck. Hoping some of you scored,

One of my local stores got two bottles of Blanton's in this week, but I missed them.

Still no Eagle Rare and such back on the shelves yet. I've got a bottle that I haven't broken into yet. Bought two over Christmas break.

Try Jameson Caskmates. Aged in stout barrels. Great finish on it.

A non-bourbon drinking friend texted me tonight. He found Pappy in a semi-local store. I got excited. It was $2500 for the bottle. I got pissed and passed. I didn't ask if it was 15, 20, or 23 (or 10 or 12 being passed off as Pappy).

Does WV do a Pappy lottery like we have in PA? Or do bottles actually appear on shelves.

Both. I believe it is up to the store as to what they do with it if they get it. In the Charleston-Huntington area I know of a couple nicer restaurants who get first dibs from two local shops. There are also a few stores that hold their own raffles/lotteries (usually incorporating some other decent bourbons in the mix as well). Some stores have call lists. Others put it on the shelf for the affordable price of $2500. I heard (have not confirmed) that a Smoker Friendly in the Wheeling area got some this year; shocking given what the Smoker Friendly's around here often keep.

If that store is indeed selling it for the 2500 you can actually report them to Rip VanWinkle. They don't wan't their bourbon being marked up like that.

Is somebody really looking for this? As of yesterday, my local shop has three different van winkles $600, $1400 and $2000 for the bottle in the velvet bag.
I know the guys well so if you really wanted it I could put you in touch. I have no clue if that is what it normally costs. I am a scotch drinker and dont really care for bourbon.

    Sounds like a bottle of 15, 20 and 23!
