Anyone had JR Ewing? Is it worth the price or is using the name a gimmick to surcharge subpar whiskey?

Looking to enjoy some 25yro El Dorado rum this weekend. It tastes like a cognac. A very, very good cognac. If you ever have the opportunity to sample this make sure you do.

    That just sounds deeeeelightful.
I'll have to look out for this one next time I'm at a whiskey bar.
    Enjoy!

I have seen this and thought to myself "nice bottle!", but no clue on how it tastes. Reviews are mixed from what I see.

Reminds me of the Ron Burgundy scotch. Tempted, but...can't do it.

For my birthday my buddy got me a set of the Jeffersons Wood Experiment bottles. Looking forward to checking these out. I've always liked Jeffersons Small Batch so these should be good.

I went to the shop yesterday, no luck finding any of the stuff from the thread. I know time to find a new shop.......

Just wanted to condense the list for ease of seach-ability for next time I visit a shop - going on a beer-less diet and need more liquor.........

    Wellers
    Elijah Craig
    Four Roses
    Stag Jr.
    Bookers
    Eagle
    Buffalo Trace Antique
    Wild Turkey Spirit

As far as what's relative cheap and potentially accessible, I'd try to pick up the Elijah Craig and the Weller Antique. It will allow you to decide whether you prefer bourbons with rye (EC) or wheat (Weller)

Note: all are at least 51% corn - but finished with rye, wheat, or barley .

If you like the EC, then after that, I'd say graduate to the Stagg Jr which is a barrel proof, usually around 130 proof.

I can't imagine the top shelf would get much better than Makers Mark at the local bowling alley. Nothing against Makers Mark, just sayin'.

I was sipping some Elijah Craig 12 last night in honour of Parker Beam, and as a big middle finger to ALS.

It still comes with the age statement up here, and is very good quality to price.

It's old stock then, they started with the new label last year.

Front or back? I ask because the front-stated "12" was one of the two bourbons that hooked me.

The front stated age EC and the "newer" back stated 12 year are the same juice in the bottle.

All new EC out of Heaven Hill distilleries will be with out the age statement and just carry the "Small Batch" designation. In this bottle will be a blend of 8-12 year bourbon with the same mash bill. Tastes like the same quality product as before.

Reason: 12 years is long damn time. And they need to preserve some of the older barrels to age for the 18yr (fan-flipping-tactic) and the 21yr.

With all the being said, I know their are plenty of independent liquor stores with the old old 12year labels.

Keep a look out if you really like, guaranteed to trip upon a bottle for the forseeable.

The stock of EC we have in BC still carries the 12 on the front. It may be "old stock" but it's damn good, especially at $49 Canadian dollars (approx $35 USD) a bottle.

I get that the 12 front/back is the same. For me, there is something nostalgic with the "12" on the front since I cut my bourbon teeth on EC12 front-stated.

I haven't had any "small batch" 8-12 blend yet. I'm sure it is good.

Agreed, the 18-year is excellent! Finished my last bottle over Christmas and am currently ISO another. Had the 21-year too. Very Good. No luck finding 23-year...yet.

Makers Mark - a good juice - would have been a welcome sight last night. Thankfully I was able to snag some top shelf Coors Lights to get me by.

For anyone in Ontario looking for some pappy you can go to the LCBO site and hit there vintages link and at the top of the page go to special offers.
They have some pappy there you can buy online.
They don't ship outside of Ontario on the site I'm looking at. Not sure what it's like in other provinces.
And coming from an LCBO site no need to worry about fake juice

While I previously mentioned that I was lucky by camping out in 2014 to get all of the Winkles and BTAC, I've actually never seen the (much cheaper) Weller 12 in Canada, would love to snag one of those.
