The commutation of Chelsea Manning's sentence demonstrates that this Russia/Wikileaks outrage has been 100% phony.

No need to discuss the issue anymore.

I'm not sure I understand. I'm outraged. Is that phony?

Obama declared that the wikileaks outrage re: Russia was phony? This is news. I'm shocked Trump hasn't re-tweeted the quote yet.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said last week he would agree to extradition to the U.S. if Obama released Manning from prison. Assange remains holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.

So I don't know Obama's thinking on the matter, but he could have granted clemency at any point. My guess is that he felt that a jail sentence was warranted, but not necessarily 35 years. He felt that 7 years was sufficient.

So do you think that Assange is only making this offer because he knows Trump will pardon him?

Ha! That reminds me of SNL when they had him name Walter White to head the DEA.

Right. Giving national security secrets to wikileaks shouldn't be judge so harshly but giving DNC/Podesta secrets to wikileaks necessitates sanctions and the removal of diplomats. I am ok with sanctions and diplomatic response to Russia but on the whole the commutation sends the wrong signal. It suggests that democrats only care about hacking/wikileaks when it effects them and not national security.

Both of these articles are restricted. Do you have a Boston Herald sign in? The other one requires white listing. So I didn't do it.

Regardless, I'm all for putting Teddy through the ringer if he conspired with the USSR. But does that excuse Trump?

@BS44325 Seven years in jail is much harsher than an expulsion of diplomats. Plus they will just be back next week anyway, staying in the East Wing.
And maybe he called Assange's bluff.
