This has absolutely nothing to do with the 10C.
And i agree...you should have checked out the rules and regs for crossing into Canada.

Sorry you missed the show.

Might as well add a POSITIVE spin to this thread that (gulp) couldn't/shouldn't backfire hehe:
Driving back into Canada from the States after spending 8 days there for the PJ '08 tour (NYC through Mansfield shows), we pull up to the inspection booth and the border agent asks us the following:
Border Agent: Citizenship?
Me: Canadian.
Border Agent: How long were you in the States for?
Me: 8 days.
Border Agent: Why were you in the States?
Me: PJ shows.
Border Agent: SHIT!
for the next 5 minutes the border agent told us how she was dying to go to the PJ shows but couldn't get time off work, told us about her friend who did go to the NYC shows, told us that she made a point of asking to work customs at Pearson Airport (Toronto) so she could meet the band when they arrived at the airport during the '05 Canada tour (the band, she said, cleared customs in Vancouver but she still had to board their charter jet to clear everyone upon landing and she got an autograph from Ed), and how she's a 10C member and asked whether i was a 10C member as well and wanted to know which shows i've been to.
after it was said and done, she told us to have a safe drive and cleared us through, without checking our passports, without asking anything else, basically without a care in the world lol

I missed the DC show in june which i had 10c tickets to, due to a ticketing stuff up by my travel agent, and i was stuck on the other side of the world, not being able to make the show.
I emailed 10c, but they were swift in their reply in saying NO...
Kinda sucks, but they have to draw the line, and they stick to it pretty hard... No refunds or transfers
i'm not a drunk, i made a mistake. i should have done more research, i'm from a rural community and i'm not very worldly. what can i say. missing a show sucks, period, when you already have tickets.
p.s. one dwi is not a felony in the US. see, you cared just as much about US laws as I did about Can ah DAH's.
"One just escapes, one's left inside the well... and he who forgets will be destined to remember"
So, we go to the border Friday to spend the evening before Saturday's show. I had a DWI about 6 years ago, as did my girlfriend. I understand that is not anyone else's problem. But just listen...
They pull us over, rifle through the car, detain us at the border for like 2 hours... and then come out and let us know that we were not allowed into Canada because we both had DWI's in the last 10 years. Neither of us even drink anymore. It created so many problems back then, and that was evidence that it can continue to haunt you.
With that being said, I called the 10C and left a message regarding the loss of the tickets... asked to be able to give a name of someone who could have at least USED the tickets to the show. No call back, no email response, nothing.
It isn;t their fault but, due to their "policies" (which aim to stop scalping, yet scalpers have more than enough TM tickets to scalp), I will not be buying 10C tickets anymore. I won;t renew my membership either. I had no idea that Canada treated DWI like this. I have never been to Canada. I read about what you need to cross the border and what to expect, but it said nothing of DWI. It really shocked me and still does.
So, thanks for reading and, yes, it's my fault I had a DWI, but it's the 10C's fault I ate $180 fucking dollars (instead of at least having someone USE the tickets). I mean, make a concession and give me a tshirt or something from the merch section. The more I think about it, the more it pisses me off. No flexibility, totally rigid regulations, and no common sense or empathy for anyone. Yet we make this whole thing roll (the fans).
Change your policy. You are screwing people left and right, in and out of Canada. Life gets in the way sometimes. There are family emergencies (not in my case, but I've read about some in the past and it's "Oh well, too bad, no refunds, returns, exchanges for ANY REASON!). No one should have to worry about their tickets when other things are important. You would think they'd use a case by case basis for determining refunds by now. I've read 100's of stories on here that seem legit and the only one that ever was rectified was a guy who felt his "seats weren;t good enough". Give me a break. I hope the 10C can continue to operate now that my $180 dollars (half a weeks work) has enabled them to stay open for business.
I don't work for the passport agency but I think they are a little pissed at us. US wanted to change the passport rules back in 2006 and canada gave us hell. and they pospone it. But we still did it. Not to mention the trouble they have been having there. It was like a week ago this guy stabbed another guy on a greyhound bus and decapitated him. Not to mention what happen there last night..
.MONTREAL (Aug. 11) - Rioting broke out late Sunday in a Montreal neighborhood where a young man was shot to death by police over the weekend. A police officer was shot in the leg, stores were looted and firefighters were pelted with beer bottles.
Several hundred officers in riot gear fanned out in search of a group of youths who ran off after torching eight cars parked outside a fire station in Montreal North, a multiethnic neighborhood with simmering tensions between residents and police. Fire trucks responding to the call in Montreal North were pelted with beer bottles, while at least three bus shelters were trashed. Not that they were right for doing what they did but I see a pattern
For your information, a Canadian with a DUI can't make it across the border into the U.S. either. My ex was refused entry on our way to Florida for a vacation. It's got nothing to do with it being a misdemeanour in US and a felony in Canada. The US has had a "zero tolerance" policy long before Canada ever did.
I also have a DUI and the customs agent laughed at it.
They just searched our car and asked a few questions and sent us off to Bonnaroo without any issues.

Lol. An American border guard asked me if Audioslave was a Christian band as I was crossing into the US to go see them. I responded with "well there might be a chance that they play Jesus Christ Pose" and he just laughed and let me go. I have never had trouble at the border going either way.

Edit: I just wanted to add that I think each country has the right to impose whatever restrictions they want for visitors in their country, I looked everywhere I could to make sure we had all we needed for crossing the border and I didn't see anything about the seriousness of DUI's at the border ...
But what was the most shocking to me what how big of assholes they were, 3 guards that probably had really small d**cks and made up by being total asses because they were in control, the first thing the guy said even before he saw the DUI and asked us our names was "I want you to remember that while you are at this crossing point you have no rights until we arrest you" and we were like WTF??? .... the whole experience was very unpleasant, I truly think that if I had had anything on my record we would have been turned around, I guess we were lucky I didn't even have a parking ticket on my history.

As far as the 10C thing... I understand your are pissed off about missing the show and losing the money but .. I think 10C was just closed for the weekend, you called on a Friday probably didn't get the message til today (too late)...

UPDATE: 10c emailed me and confirmed receipt of my messages... informed me of no transferring for the EV shows and were sympathetic to my situation. Just the fact that they addressed my disappointment is good enough.
Feels good to get a response from a long time poster like vedder78. Thanks.

I can totally understand how you felt belive me! My heart sunk to my feet when my husband told me we might not be let into Canada, I can't even imagine what I would have felt if my husband had told me we weren't allowed in period.
I'm sure the 10C has not been flexible with their policies with good reasons, they used to allow transfers ( I had my tkts transferred on 2003 when i broke my foot) but I'm assuming probably they have had problems with transfers and they just decided to cut the problem by the root and not do it anymore.
I'm really really sorry you missed the show :(
Urs,
"Without the album covers, where do you clean your pot?" - EV
that really sucks. my dad's friend has a DUI and is allowed in to canada, but with a DUI they won't let you back into the states (for whatever reason is beyond me...), which is probably why they didn't let you go in the first place.
EDIT: i stand corrected...apparently i was told wrong!!

That's not quite true, an American Citizen cannot be denied entry back to the US because he has a 10 year old DUI, those are candian laws at the border the guy showed me the regulations on paper when we were there...
When we crossed back to the US, we are both American citizens we were asked for our IDs and proof of citizenship and that's was it, off we went back into the US with no hassle at all....
I dont know about foreigners with DUIs going into the US though.

I am pretty sure they can keep you out for it. There are a few times when crossing the border into the US where I have been asked if I have ever had a DUI. Then again like other posters have mentioned they can keep you out for whatever reason they want (like I said before I was once asked if I had ever been charged of a crime I was not conviced of).

Yeah I agree with a foreigner going into another country (any country), I definitely agree the borders or immigration authorities really don't have to have a reason to deny you entry.
But I'm 99.9% sure that the border guard at the US border couldn't have told my husband a US citizen that he couldn't go back to his own country because he had a DUI back in 1998 though, I believe (unless I understood wrong) that was what the other poster was suggesting.

that was the same as i got...
it is always worth asking and outlining the situation, but a shame that they are so harsh on enforcing it, when you have a legitimate reason for not being able to attend. They could then sell the tickets to another member.
I am hoping that there were not 2 empty front row seats at the DC show that i missed!!
We are sorry you were unable to attend the show. All ticket sales are final.
But I'm 99.9% sure that the border guard at the US border couldn't have told my husband a US citizen that he couldn't go back to his own country because he had a DUI back in 1998 though, I believe (unless I understood wrong) that was what the other poster was suggesting.
That does sound very odd. I mean what would the guard expect you do to live out the rest of your life in Canada, never returning to your home country?
Imagine having to get a band you work for and the tour bus across. Never been into Canada but my bus driver has horror stories with a band that is huge in "pop" music now and a crew member was detained bc they thought he was "high"...Long story short, the crew guy was sober and had his name mixed up, after 72 hours, he was released back to the US when this band was on a 4 week canadian tour...

So you are telling me that since the 10c is off for the week-end and didn't respond to YOUR situation that you can start this bash on MY country and place blame on pretty much everyone but yourself...and then they send you a letter that states what EVERYONE knew in the first place and what you knew when you bought the tickts and now you feel better!! WOW!!
Maybe what you should have done was taken responsibilty for YOUR OWN ACTIONS and not put this ridiculous post up!!
Maybe your next post should be an apology to the 10c for all this bitching you started and an apology to all the Canadians on this site you offended!! And if not then I hope you do drop your 10c membership and I hope you never try to come back to our beautiful country because we don't want people like you here anyway!!!!!

no doubt it's a shame, but reality is, it's not a 10c issue...you could insert anything in place of 10c and had the same circumstance (plane ticket, ball game, funeral,whatevah...)... another post 9/11 area that we have lost all control of....
Agreed. As frustrating as the situation might have been, it is not the fan club's responsibility to transfer tickets the day of the show for an unforseen border crossing issue. Not to put you on the couch but I think you are just pissed you missed the show and you need someone to blame to let out your frustration. I'd probably do the same thing in your situation; however, I might also keep in mind that my 10C membership has gotten me front row seats on two occasions and that they really do everything they humanly can to help members. With every company, people's needs fall through the cracks from time to time.

Of course then you would just show up with guns looking for our oil anyways.
I'm really really sorry you missed the show :(
Urs,
EDIT: i stand corrected...apparently i was told wrong!!

But I'm 99.9% sure that the border guard at the US border couldn't have told my husband a US citizen that he couldn't go back to his own country because he had a DUI back in 1998 though, I believe (unless I understood wrong) that was what the other poster was suggesting.
ohh, thanks, good to know!
guess they got their stories mixed up hah
thanks for correcting me
that was the same as i got...
it is always worth asking and outlining the situation, but a shame that they are so harsh on enforcing it, when you have a legitimate reason for not being able to attend. They could then sell the tickets to another member.
I am hoping that there were not 2 empty front row seats at the DC show that i missed!!
I wave to all my Friends... Yeah!
That does sound very odd. I mean what would the guard expect you do to live out the rest of your life in Canada, never returning to your home country?

I have re-evaluated my position.... this is 100% 10C's fault! Those bastards! If I were you, I would drop my 10C membership in protest ASAP. Don't even wait for it to expire.... call them up, and ask them to cancel it NOW!

BTW...what's your 10club number? I'd love to know if I'm moving closer or not.
Sad, but true. Thanks a lot 9/11.
