No Code / Yield Reissues, Why Don't We Have Them Already?

My issue is why do we have to loan money to pearl jam for 3 months AND get them late? I have no problem waiting, but why do I have to give them a 3 month interest free loan to do so? Why not just charge us when they ship? I love PJ and the 10C, it's definitely the longest relationship of my life (non-family of course) but it is a bit of a head slapper sometimes. They've had my money since May, I have nothing to show for it, and I could have just waited and bought them yesterday from my local.

I don't like how they charge you upfront for everything either, retailers don't but other band sites tend to as well.

I find ordering direct from the band more expensive like with the Foo Fighters recent releases. I didn't preorder Sonic Highways on the band site as it was more expensive then missed out on the flexi disc...doh! Then I ordered the St Cecilia EP direct and I got it almost a week after my local store and with postage it cost almost double and no bonus.

Band sites should reward loyalty, be the cheapest, and arrived for the release date. If the operators of these stores can't get the best price and deliver on time then something is wrong. I'm all for indie record stores getting exclusives but as far as online retailing goes you shouldn't have to look further than the official site for the best service.

My Lightning Bolt LP was late, too...BUT 10club gave you a a full res WAV download early than the release date. That does not matter with these 2 LPs because I've been listening to harsh asssed sterile digitals of both No Code and Yield since they came out. That first headphone listen to Sometimes into Hail, Hail? That shit will hurt your brain, if you're not careful.
It's really about the vinyl experience, the unwrap, pulling it out of the paper sleeve...They should have timed it better to coincide, but whatever. It would have been nice for the holiday, I guess. In the general scheme of things, it's really not that important.

I paid £14.99 for each LP in the UK, that's less than $40 total for the two including postage. I have the originals so didn't want to pay too much for these not knowing how they would sound. 10c was cheaper than some but there were better prices if you looked around.

    Where was this ??
Dodax, they are not the fastest in terms of shipping. Usually a week after release date so probably quicker than 10c. No Code has gone up in price since as well.
    Amazing

    Thanks

    Are they the EU presses?

Will be. Not sure if all copies were pressed in the EU, MPO (France) I think. They probably just have slightly different sleeves and labels for the US market.

I miss the day's when I would receive a new release / reissue etc.. day's before it hit store shelves from the fan clubs, even up here in Canada. It would of been great if our 10club orders arrived before our local record stores put them up for sale to the general public. Oh well. Those day's are long long gone.

    It's going to be OK.
  • Have tracking #'s for both No Code and Yield, but neither has been tendered to the carrier yet, which means probably next week before I see them. As others have stated, not a big deal in the grand scheme of things - we've heard the songs before (and I'm between turntables at the moment anyway) - but trying to support the band by ordering direct, having to pay months in advance and not get them from the source until a week to two after retail is a tad frustrating...especially for a non-exclusive.

I agree but then I was also missing being able to walk into my local record store on release day and buy the new Pearl Jam LP, that now happens.
  • Fingers crossed that when I eventually get nc & y that they're not pressed off center or screwed up in any way :(
I'm like an opening band for your mom.
  • Still no movement on the tracking # they sent me on 9/1. Maybe the colored variants haven't arrived from the manufacturer yet?

My Yield arrived on Saturday and my No Code arrived yesterday. Best I can say about UPS Mail Innovations is that I guess it could have been worse? It really is an unimpressive way to ship merchandise.

I guess my LPs are sitting in the warehouse collecting dust. No movement since 9/1 when Mail Innovations received shipping info. 10c + MI = match made in heaven. Efficiently inefficient.

Yield was supposed to arrive today but no luck. It shipped 2 days before no code and it looks like they are sitting in a warehouse together at the moment

what is the benefit of using this delivery method in pj's eyes? more economical? less of a carbon foot print?

The carbon footprint argument has to be a completely bullshit claim. These things travel around way more than regular post. My guess is that it is economical for 10c, and instead of passing those savings on, they raising shipping rates, and end up with higher margins on "shipping and handling" than on the actual merch they're selling. It certainly isn't a benefit to the consumer.

  • Just an update on mine, I received tracking numbers for both on 9/1 and have had no indication that they've even been picked up by UPS. I don't see any benefit in ordering music from the PJ site, unless it's exclusive. If they can get the vinyl to retailers on release day I think they sure as shit should have gotten them to us on release day. Is that expecting too much?
  • Mine have been rocking the warehouse for quite a while. Supporting the band/10C can be painful. I was so close to choosing Amazon for $3 more, but thought "No... I'll give this a chance." I would have gladly paid them an additional $3 for a reliable delivery. Sigh.

Tiki - I'min VA and mine took the EXACT same route, even the three minute detour back up to NJ. It's now sitting in Capitol Heights for whatever reason. My Yield arrived on Friday and No Code is still on tour. WTF is wrong with USPS media mail? I send blu rays through that all the time and it is dirt cheap and fast!

My guess is economical..spirit airlines is also economically better but like tenclubs method of shipping, it is also a shit service. I have done online shipping/fulfillment for years and have never seen a worse service especially for the price we pay..

Exactly. The benefits of UPS integrating with the USPS are more profit-motivated than environmentally-motivated. Through this partnership, UPS transferred a fair amount of their sorting and handling to the USPS, as well as saving on having to run their own fleet vehicles to rural and suburban locations where the USPS already has more consistent lanes of service on a daily basis. I would argue that those carbon emissions are debatable in that based on my observation, the UPS trucks are still running the same routes in the majority of their markets, and the routes I've seen some of the Mail Innovations packages traveling to get to their final destination are mind boggling. They may be filling empty space in the USPS routes, but I work in the logistics/supply chain industry, and the majority of the times I see UPS trucks, they are running very light, so all they've really done is transfer the "empty space" to other vehicles. Our company has corporate rates negotiated w/FedEx and that's primarily who we use for small parcel shipping. Our main factors are service and timeliness, and UPS/USPS Mail Innovations are sorely lacking in both of those areas.
