After the first 5 albums, there are 2-3 great songs on the rest of the albums. Say what you want about me, but this was my least favorite show out of 5. They really need to stop reading these boards or else they'll be playing nothing but obscure songs for the "collectors."
Well, apparently they played all the hits at MSG and that didn't go over well here either! The boys can't win!!
After watching Binaural played in full I'd have been content with absolutely anything. I don't know if people look at setlists of previous stellar shows and have a sense of entitlement but hearing negativity about shows like this or the recent MSG shows just gets boring. The thing with PJ is that you never know what they will bring. If you get a predominantly hits based set which itself is a rarity you are still getting a hits set from one of the greatest bands. Yes a lot of PJ fans "collect" songs like they are playing top trumps but you saw 100 PJ shows and never got to see Dirty Frank or Evil Little Goat, too bad but I guess you got to see some stuff you did like along the way. So envious right now.

Great first set with a good first and second encore. So jealous I missed Parting Ways and Sleight of Hand by one show. Congrats everyone going! Hopefully Thursday they blow the roof off again.
Been lucky, was at moline, Milwaukee, Greenville and Toronto. Binaural is my favourite album so had an idea after gods dice something was up then after evs talk about Fort Mac I knew it was on. Unbelievable, I had fan club seats in 121 that I bought from a 10c was surprised no one in that section seemed to notice or care seemed like a lot of casual fans...
complaining about seeing Pearl Jam live ? complaining about Binaural ? complaining about them playing their hits? what am I missing?
Extremely grateful I was there !
Any new realizations... would have to wait... Til he had more time,... more time... Time to dream,... to himself... he waves goodbye, To himself... I'll see you on the other side...
Tonight was an all-timer. There was a moment during (I think) "Comfortably Numb" when it really occurred to me that we were in the midst of something special. I'm not sure I'd have felt that way if, for instance, I'd never heard a song off Binaural till this evening...but the performance was stunning, and I say that as someone who generally doesn't like the album all that much. I spent a lot of the show ruminating over the band and how big a role its music's played in my life (tonight was PJ40 for me btw), and it's astonishing that they're still doing what they do and, really, they're the only band on the planet that's doing it at this level on this scale.
PJ41 on Thursday outta be special, too: I'm taking my partner to her first-ever Pearl Jam show. We'll be in GA. We'll be deliriously happy.
40 shows and you never heard a song off Binaural? How is that even possible?

Why couldn't they have played parting ways at msg?!?! Let me sleep and grievance= awesome. If you like binaural it's an epic show, if you don't then it's a snooze fest. It's really not that hard to see both ends of the spectrum on this one.

Was at the front of s118 last night. The show was fantastic. A few miscues and restarts on the binaural set, but thats to be expected. For a Toronto crowd I thought the energy (at least around me) was super weak to start. Lots of causal fans (a few passing around a LastFM setlist which they thought was the standard set for the tour - they were all going to "follow along") - many of them were confused as balls with the binaural set. The "hits" portion brought the crowd into it. The only clear "edit" for me is "Imagine", it just seems a little too "on the nose" (but then we got LET ME SLEEP!!! so fuck he could have played Sirens for all I cared after that). Thanks PJ and thanks to my clueless seatmates for not having the balls to tell me to sit down.
Maybe the greatest show I have seen. Wasn't happy my section was full of pussies who didn't seem to understand or care Binaural was being played! Most of them sat down and sent texts through songs like Sleight of Hand. Sad considering how many diehards were shut out.
All that being said, an unparalleled performance from the boys tonight!
They could be same people who go front row to leafs games and sit on their laptop or phone conducting business.
Anyone not satisfied with this show should just stop going to Pearl Jam concerts.

Exactly. If I took my brother who is a casual fan (and was in his glory @ Philly2) to this show, I would never hear the end of it. I love Binaural, every single song but I can see how the more casual fan would hate hearing it all at once.

The last 3 proper shows I attended to date have been Moline (No Code), Greenville (VS.), & Toronto (Binaural). As I was saying to a few others, it didn't occur to me what was happening in Moline & Greenville immediately but as soon as I heard the 1st notes from Breakerfall I just knew.
Look: whether the casual fans enjoyed the show or not isn't the issue nor was it crucial for the band to even play an album show in all honesty. What personally blew me away was just how much FUN the band members themselves were having. This TRULY felt like a weeknight rehearsal for them at the warehouse practice space and the rest of us just happened to crash it. They were all so happy, so giddy, in such great moods that it floored me. They've just been on tour for a month - I know my body feels like I had my ass kicked in after last night and they've been doing this shit for weeks and still rocking out like it's the 1st night of the tour! Are you kidding me Pearl Jam? Are you kidding me?! lol
If you didn't like the show so be it. If you loved the show I share your enthusiasm. I think, however, we can all agree the band WANTED to blow our collective minds last night and I think based on their facial expressions and body language they really felt like they had!

I've stopped wanting super rare songs and not being happy when the "hits" are played because I've let it ruin shows before. I fell in love with this band because of songs like Even Flow and Corduroy, so why would I not love hearing them? They're still great, great songs and rule live.
Of course when I change my attitude, I get Binaural! 5 songs I've never heard before right there. It was outstanding.
Say what you will about playing the familiar stuff, when they break into something like Alive it brings the entire building together and it's a beautiful thing.
Listen to the Sadies.

100%. The other lesson is that if the band is ever going to play two shows in one city you better be at both. Over the course of two nights you will get something crazy like a Binaural plus a nice spread of different songs. The shows always compliment each other and really should be judged as a pair.
You fuckin' cocksuckers... You fuckin' bitch... You fuckin'... You know we come up here as a collective band and we give and we give and you just fuckin' want more...
