2 tix in section 205. 3 shows in 3 days is a first for me and I've seen close to 250 shows in my life. Going to have to pace myself as I've recently hit 50, scary but, if Eddie can push himself to the limit for 3 hours I'm pretty sure I can. Would love to see Eddie show up at Wilco, not sure there's ever been much interaction between the 2 bands which, seems a bit odd seeing that Wilco has been my hometown's best band for the last 20 years and how often Eddie visits his old stomping grounds. Show #11 for me seeing Wilco and shows #24 & 25 for PJ! Hopefully all 3 shows live up to the hype, I'm sure they will!!!

Pat Sansone was at the RNDM Lincoln Hall show. He hung out at the bar for quite a while afterwards as well.

    So there's that.

I believe Pat and Joseph Arthur have some connection.

In the early 2000s (post YHF/Ghost era?) there was an interview with Ed where he was asked about bands he currently listened to and he replied along the lines of "Wilco are doing some interesting things." Not sure what I'd really see them collaborating on stage but it could be fun. Ed on Californa Stars would be great. Nels on Gremmie Out Of Control?!?

I doubt Ed wants to spend his off day in Chicago at a show, but both bands did play at Bridge 2003, so they do know each other.

My friend asked if I wanted to go to this in between the PJ shows. Hate to admit it, but I had to look up who these guys are on YouTube.

They're the last great american rock band outside of pearl jam..a true touring band you can still see in small venues almost anywhere. I wouldn't doubt Ed showing up. He has ties with nels I think from the watchtower release. It's not needed by any means..wilco can bring it alone.. But would be cool if Ed sang misunderstood hahaha
^^^This is the connection and I think tweedy sent mike a guitar a year or two ago I read..maybe mike joins and shreds with nels?? Impossible Germany solos?? Would rock!

I was referring to my own post: "The only way this show sells out at all is if everyone that's coming to town to see PJ that weekend also goes to the Wilco show."

Although, I suppose it is possible that I was right about this.

Nah. It would have sold out just as fast.

Wilco is really popular here. They sell out every show downtown.

Wilco certainly has a large and dedicated following but I think this is a straw man argument.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this will be their largest-attended *paid* Chicago show ever, unless you include festivals. The largest place I can remember them playing this decade is the Civic Opera House, and that seats just over 3,500.

They did that minor league baseball stadium a few summers ago. That's roughly the same size. A few years before that they sold out UIC, but that's about 7000.

They have also played Pritzker before and sold it out. 2006 I think. Maybe 2007.

OK, I stand corrected. They're bigger than Jesus.

    ...and it was 2007.

By the way, if I come off like I'm bashing the band, nothing could be further from the truth.

I just happen to think that their popularity among the locals tends to be overstated just a bit.

I get that. Especially since they play different sized venues all the time. its difficult to gauge their popularity.

They have sold out UIC Pavillion back to back and Pritzker Pavillion before...stop making an ass out of yourself...they are the best band to come out of Chicago(ok Belleville relocated to Chicago) in the last 20 years, they need no one's help selling out in their hometown!!! Sounds like your a jealous PJ fan cause SW is better then anything PJ has done in 20 years! See now I can sound like an ass too! Give it up you lost this argument by a lot!! Btw for the other guy UIC Pavillion is 10,075 for concerts not 7000!!

they have been better than PJ at times since 2004. ever since Nils joined the band. but hey don't forget about the Pumpkins, man

i think from 2004 to 2007, Wilco was the best live band on the planet. at least the ones i saw.

The Pumpkins from Gish though Mellon Collie were pretty mind blowing but, the after taste of the last 20 years has been pretty bad while, Wilco especially with the amazing Star Wars this late in the game has just been so more consistent and dare I say even more so then PJ?!

Wilco 2007-2011 is incredibly spotty. very dad rock/MOR. Some brilliant tracks in there though (One Sunday Morning, Impossible Germany, One Wing)

SW is a return to form, but there was a lot of middling rock for those 5 years.

I think PJ has been as consistent for that same period as Wilco. s/t through LB is just as spotty.

I agree Wilco had some spotty but, still good albums and now they have the glorious SW! Until PJ can match SW greatness and not sure they ever can, Wilco to me is the more consistantly great band! For me the last great PJ album is Yield...the last very good album Binaural and Riot Act- LB is good but, nothing more!

I think you're on the right track here but honestly, I feel that you need to back up a couple albums for PJ. Binaural and Riot Act have some incredible high points but there are some serious clunkers on those albums.

As far as Star Wars goes, I think it's a consistently *good* album all the way through, but there are no songs on it that I would call truly great. Lightning Bolt does have a couple duds, but there are a handful of standouts on it as well.

    YMMV
