Considering those who get the GI Bill are enlisted, I would say close to 0 are from wealthy families.

Yeah, this isn't the topic of the thread but not being born into a wealthy family I had a choice to make out of high school. I chose the Army to better myself and worked my ass off there and then as a college student older than my peers so my kids could be born into a wealthier family than I.

Bernie Sanders plan is not as simple as just increased taxes. It's about working to create better opportunity and fairness for all. Why some here want to maintain the status quo of the wealthy elite is beyond me... unless some you you are super rich.

Assumption is made on Ani's race?

I do not think you have to be super rich to be in favor of controlling the taxation and having concern over what the tax dollars are being spent on.

Bernie won't be able to do shit except raise minimum wages. I am fine with that, people who work hard should make enough to have a decent life. But who in the end will pay for those increases? The consumer will when inflation goes up and the costs get passed on to higher income workers. Will I get a raise to offset these new costs, no I will not. So all he will do in the end is push the middle class down to raise the poverty level up. His whole plan is a pipe dream. Obama preached a lot as well and what did we get? Obamacare which a lot of states are not even using and may get shot down shortly anyways. The system must change. We have to be fiscally aware the defecit will break us all one day as a country. We need to fix and then improve.

Chadwick, I just threw a 5 into the tip jar at the little Mexican joint for a $5 breakfast burrito. That was my helping for this morning.

And as Empty stated, many of us joined the Military back in the 90's to better ourselves and future generations of our families.

Amazing - super rich is an awful term until the $33K per couple fundraisers (two of them last night in LA plus a bit of the usual Obama-fundraising-visit traffic snarls) are happening.

    Perception.

I, for one, thank you for your service & commend the way you busted your butt to be able to provide a good life for your family.

A-fucking-men - to Ani, to Empty, to all their brothers and sisters. My dad went a similar route and I love him every day for it, for who it made me.

Taxes fund the military. Taxes fund GI bill. The bus you rode on paid for by taxes. Schools, taxes. So your success and now contribution was direct result of taxes.

OP, read this, pay attention to that first graph, tell me your thoughts. I want to talk about the issue, not your employment with the military.

Proof please to your claim on what pays for the GI Bill. Because back when I was in the money I had to pay to get it funded the program. It may have changed since they increased it after I got out, but this is not correct on how it was back then.

I'm not reading that book. I understand how things work. Bernie couldn't get any of what he wants through congress. If you made him king maybe, president no. So in our world he is just trump of the democrats. Hot air and that is all.

Taxes paid for GI bill. Did you have a side job while in the military and used that monkey to pay a separate fund that fully funded the GI bill? No.

Oh, ok, so you're not here to debate an issue using logic, reason, and sound data, you are here to huff and puff your opinion around like hot air...good to know.

I don't think Bernie and Trump are at all the same. Trump obfuscates, and panders to the lowest common denominator. I believe Bernie is sincere. But I agree that nothing he's talking about has a prayer of succeeding. His own party won't rally around him (just watch the superdelegates flock to Clinton), and as president he'd have two opposition parties to deal with.

I agree, but do however disagree with his politics. Met the man back when I lived in VT and he was the mayor of Burlington. He was a nice guy. Interviewed him for my school newspaper.

So when I see Bernie and Hillary wanting to pay for all this extra stuff I say fuck that. They will push me down to raise others up. I say hell no. They can fund their communist plans in another country.

Say yes to the American dream again.

    Communist?

    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/do-you-know-the-difference-between-a-communist-and-a-socialist-a6708086.html

Capitalism — or really the concept of “liberalism” — arose in the 17th century, and centers on the right to private property. In Adam Smith's foundational “Wealth of Nations,” Quill notes, “is recognition that capitalism is going to make the lives of a good majority of the population miserable, and that there will be a need for government intervention in society and the economy to offset the worse effects.”

Socialism was in part a response to capitalism, largely through the writings of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Socialism focuses on the inequalities that arise within capitalism through a number of possible responses. Quill outlined some possibilities: “[T]he state might 'wither away' or collapse altogether, in others it would regulate the production of goods and services, in yet others it would become thoroughly democratic” — all with the aim of reducing that inequality.

You can see that's where democratic socialism arises. That philosophy, Quill writes, seeks “democratic control of sectors of society and economy in order to avoid the pitfalls of an unregulated market and — this is most important — the kind of terrible authoritarian government that emerged in the Soviet Union.”

Communism “was the endpoint of Marx's ideas,” Quill writes, though Marx didn't delineate what it would look like, exactly. “We find hints in works like 'The German Ideology” (1846) where there is a description of working life that is unalienated, i.e. creative and various — we hunt in the morning, fish in the afternoon, and become opera critics in the evening.“ During the Cold War, though, the idea came to be inextricably and pejoratively associated with the Soviet Union and with the elimination of private property. The term, in Quill's words, ”served as a shorthand for all things un-American“ — which was the way that Trump used it.
