Alright I'm glad we all decided that Wrigley 2 is their 1,000 show!
Chicago 6/29/98, Alpine Valley(EV) 6/13/99, Alpine Valley 10/08/00, Chicago 10/09/00, Phoenix 10/20/00, Orlando 4/12/03, Tampa 4/13/03, San Diego 6/05/03, Vegas 6/06/03, Phoenix 6/07/03, Chicago 6/18/03, Alpine Valley 6/21/03, Orlando 10/08/04, D.C. 10/11/04, Chicago 5/16/06, Chicago 5/17/06, LA 7/12/08, Chicago 8/23/09, Chicago 8/24/09, LA 10/07/09, San Diego 10/09/09 (Front Row Center, Finally), Phoenix(EV) 11/4/11, Wrigley 7/19/13, Phoenix 11/19/13, Denver 10/22/14, Wrigley 8/20/16, Wrigley 8/22/16
I'll take the opposite approach and says tv shows count. There is an audience and they are playing songs. Same thing as a full concert, but just shorter. Their early shows were 10 songs or less and they count even though they are much shorter than the current format of 30+ songs.
I honestly don't think there's a way to know for sure and I think the band is more concerned with the 25th anniversary.
I hope not, the 25th anniversary was last October.

I'm with you and for the record I am not the one picking and choosing what is a show and what is not. PJ Stat Tracker, Livefootsteps, Two Feet Thick and Setlist.fm ALL have included tv shows/in-stores/radio appaearances as shows. That has been the method of counting performances since the beginning of time and nobody quibbled with it. All I did was cross reference the sites, eliminate duplications and removed solo appearances or gigs where the whole band didn't appear. When you do that they have performed 985 times which makes Quebec City performance 1000.
If there is a public audience and they performed then it is a show. TV shows count. That those few instances would alter when their 1000 show is proves that, while fun to kick around, this remains an exercise in picking nits.
ok I counted everything from the past tour page and it added up to 965 shows.
23 dates on the tour, so that would put us at 988 at the end of the tour, if I counted correctly.
The past tour page is not comprehensive. Just as an example...They only have one show listed in 1990 and all the other sites have them playing 3 that year.
I emailed 10c. Will post here if they respond. Hope they do, as PJ history is one of the most important things in the history of America and it'd be great to know where things stand in their eyes.

Excellent. 1000 is coming. It would be cool to know when.
I would not count Unplugged. TV taping. Non-concert appearance.
But ... AWESOME.
On awesome we can agree but c'mon...that was a show!
I'd definitely count Unplugged as a show. Whether it was recorded for tv or not, it's a full concert and not the band appearing for a song or two on someone else's variety show. Letterman, SNL, etc, are NOT Pearl Jam concerts.
SVRDhand13: Dude. PJ's own concert history doesn't even list TV appearances. Go to 1996. Nothing on Letterman, Hail, Hail and Leaving Here and it being a "show."
If you think a one-song TV appearance should count toward their 1,000th concert, I really can't help you.

Hang on...
They include a two song set for VH1 Rock Honors: The Who in 2008
For years PJ's own concert history didn't include the 2008 Beacon Theatre show, either. Now it does. None of this is set in stone. It's all subjective.

what about mtv unplugged? TV appearance? or concert?

They also didn't have beacon for years. They also don't have the oracle concert. Yet They have rock honors. There's no right answer. It's all opinion.
That's it...I'm editing the title of this thread from "show" to "performance"
Good call OP
Based on the name change the only update would be adding any "private" performances. From what I understand Microsoft was Eddie only so that would not count. The only other "performance" remaining (that I am aware of) would be the fixer taping at the showbox. Since the band played two songs for the 300 people after the taping this appearance would have to count in the totals. Therefore...the new grand total of performances is 986 and number 1000 is MSG2.

Would love to know show 1,000 but hard to tell because of missing shows, early history. 10c would need to figure it out to be official.

I'm a PJ/rock historian in my spare time.
Anyone arguing otherwise never played in a band, booked concerts or understands the rock concert world.
If you do a 30-show tour and made a TV appearance (1, 5 songs -- doesn't matter), you played 30 CONCERTS. Not 31.
I'm gonna email 10c and see if they have a number. Maybe Demetrios can, too, since they seem to respond to him.
Fun discussion and good for PJ history. Nice to actually talk about music and not bitch about something like merch or tickets.
