There's a DVD the Stones released last year, from the vault, Live in Hampton from Dec. 18, 1981 which was a PPV show thus they had the video recording saved. I was there and it was my 14th birthday as well as Keith Richard's 38th that night. Worth checking out not only because it was a great show but to see what the Coliseum was like back then and how it's unchanged now. It's a busy but well kept building, mostly ice shows, car shows, circus, some smaller country or R&B acts. PJ has played the Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Newport News (Hampton Roads) market 3 times, all at the VB Amphitheater, most recently on their 2008 summer tour. Everyone from Bruce to Van Halen to Kiss has played Hampton. Knowing how much they like the older barns I'm thinking they might have been eager to come given the routing options through the South. Sometimes the Richmond Coliseum (similar capacity) would get bands to play there and skip Hampton since they are located along I-95. Straight shot down to Raleigh. Getting to Hampton takes a longer route, an hour drive east on I-64 from Richmond. Guaranteed Eddie will comment on the history/appeal of coming here.

If you zoom in on this photo, you can see how close side / behind the stage at Hampton can be to the band.

Great photo! Looks like the side of the floor seats are pitched, too.

From this site it looks like 10C Seats are in Loge T?

DMB released one of their early Live Trax from there:

The 1996 Hampton New Year’s show with Dave Matthews Band and Béla Fleck and the Flecktones is considered by fans and crew alike, one of the most incredible jam sessions to date. The set list that evening reflected a nice array of songs from Remember Two Things, Under the Table and Dreaming and Crash. Béla Fleck joined DMB on stage for 9 songs and Béla and the full Flecktones ended up jamming with DMB for 5 songs

I'm coming from Richmond, four of us with GA. My plan is to get there about 11 or so, check into the Marriott and then walk the 8 minutes with a small grill and a cooler full of drinks, burgers and chicken. Come 5PM, drag it all back. People around me will be more than welcome to partake in the eating.

Fingers crossed my friend!!! I went ahead and got a ticket just to be safe. Figured since it was a gamble if I could make it or not, I got it behind stage highest level I could find, if I roll in late at least I won't be in anybodies way or wasting a prime seat… Damn, how can you not love this band!!!

I saw something from Forbes magazine related to ticket prices, the secondary markets, brokers and why tickets are so expensive these days. There was a section on PJ and this tour and they specifically mentioned that the three hottest tickets on the open market were...NYC...makes sense...its NYC....Toronto...huge city and one of only a few Canadian shows...so that makes sense...and then there is little old Hampton VA!!!

This really does have the potential to be THE one. The place is going to be packed with diehards in an environment that is without question among the best venues to see live music anywhere in the country.

If you've been before you already know but if this is going to be your first time then let me be the first to say...Welcome to the Mothership!!!!

BTW...If you are staying at the Embassy Suites...this is the view from there. You are literally sharing the parking lot with the Hampton Coliseum. That is the convention center in the foreground.

It was merciful of the band to schedule something on the mainland side of the tunnel. I couldn't be happier with the choice...only places I would have preferred is the National or NORVA.

So, is it really FREE parking at the venue? Everything I've seen officially from Hampton Coliseum is that parking is free. I find that extremely hard to believe.

I don't recall, but it would not surprise me. Farm Bureau Live (VA Beach) Pavilion parking is free as well. It's baked into the ticket price. They are in different counties but perhaps same rules apply.

i got GA! Using some Hilton points for 2 nights at the Embassy Suites right across from the venue. I put "Do something Pearl Jam related with the room!" in my reservation's special request section...should be interesting to see what the hotel does, if anything

I'm thinking of picking up tix on StubHub. Question for people who have been to this venue. Will Mezz Q or J offer a halfway decent view. The picture that someone posted looks like it wouldn't be the worst seat I've ever had but just checking.

Personally, I'd rather be in those sections than D - W at the other end. Much closer to the band. Although it's not a straight on view, the proximity to the band makes it better in some ways. Also, the loge is only 12 rows. So even the mezzanine seats at Hampton are good.
