i have to agree with that. besides kings of leon as my 1st pick i would have to go with social distortion, the duke spirit, mudhoney, or brmc. all those would be bad ass.

If I had my choice it would be KOL. They fucking rock and are the reason I went to Virginia Beach (ended up being a sick show anyway). I also saw Mudhoney back in '98 and would love to see them again.
What about:
No Doubt (I think they are back)
The Vines
The Fratellis
The Hives
Other acts that have been mentioned:
Cornell
Ben Harper
The Racontours
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Live
Blind Melon
Arctic Monkeys
I'd love all of those but don't see any of it happening (except maybe The Monkeys or Motorcycle Club).
I honestly don't think PJ needs an opener but I do like it when the Kings play. If it's not them or someone of their caliber, it should be no one.
Having said that I thought that Ted Leo and the Pharmacists were pretty good.
i know they are too big most likely but, i think the raconteurs would be absolutely awesome to open up for Pearl Jam...........Jack White is ridiculous
9/1/2000 - E-Centre, Camden, 'Sometimes' started and I was hooked...
The Raconteurs
The Black Keys
Back Door Slam
KOL is too big, but who knows
same with MMJ
I'll just throw in We are Scientists because that would be awesome
Can't escape from the common rule
If you hate something, don't you do it too
Rose Hill Drive
MMJ
Ben Harper and the innocent criminals
Rodrigo y Gabrelia
Three
MMJ and Ben Harper have already opened for them. I wouldn't mind seeing someone different. I always thought Queens of the Stone Age would be cool opener.

When they come back to Australia and New Zealand, I'm hoping they get Liam Finn and EJB to open for them. I went and saw Liam and EJs gig in Sydney last month and was totally blown away!!! AWESOME!!!!

great suggestions. they're all pretty big in the UK and Europe, but never really broke in the US. kings of leon were pretty much the perfect opening act; it's going to be hard to top them. modest mouse is one of the best live bands around, but i think they might be a little too big. same with muse.
these are some that i would not mind seeing:
Ryan Adams & The Cardinals
The Draft
Editors
B.R.M.C.
Interpol
Minus The Bear
Arcade Fire
Ra Ra Riot
Caribou
i don't know how those last few would sit with PJ fans, but what the hell.

amen to Butch Walker.
Willie Nelson has been in the game too long to be opening for anybody.
And The Arcade Fire would be amazing. Two of my favorite bands in one night.
