I see a lot of people talk about science on here. Here is a fact he has both an X and a Y chromosome which makes him a male. On top of that he still has his twigs and berries which makes him a male. So until science can change his DNA and he gets his friends cut off he will always be a he. #IFUCKINGLOVESCIENCE

Well that is very close-minded of you.

"Of course, people should have the freedom to assume whatever gender role makes them comfortable and refer to themselves with whatever pronoun they choose; we should encourage people to be who they really feel they are, not who or what society would like them to be. I wonder, if we were a more tolerant society that welcomed all types of gender identity, what the impact might be on gender dysphoria. How many transgender individuals would feel the need to physically change gender, if they truly felt accepted with whatever gender role they choose?"
I am completely for someone wanting to go through that change but I am really getting sick of seeing Bruce/Caitlyn.
I'm with Chadwick...it's still Bruce Jenner until he lops off his unit.
Gern I know we don't know each other but I read your posts and this might be the first time we agree 100%. I am sure we would come to more agreements over a few beers and some dank!

im not gonna refer to him as she or caitlyn. he is bruce jenner
Her name was legally changed. So you are intentionally calling someone by the incorrect name.
Yeah, really. She is Caitlyn Jenner. Why wouldn't anyone just refer to a person in the way that they want to be referred to? Anything else is incredibly and unnecessarily disrespectful.

So do you go around insisting on calling married women who changed their last names by their maiden name? Since legal name changes apparently mean nothing to you? And if you think that a penis or a vagina defines a person and who they are, then that's pretty sad, especially when it comes to transgendered people and those with gender dysmorphia.
What this thread is showing me is that Caitlyn Jenner has a LOT more work to do. Good luck to her! It's important work. I hope that those of you who are unable to grasp this issue in an open-minded and fair way do learn to someday.

I'm not sure that it's worth much effort explaining. You can call him Caitlyn...I'll call him Bruce.
I don't know how old you are but Bruce Jenner was an icon to me. I will always remember watching him on the Olympics so to take 40 years of memories away is a little hard for some of us.

Bruce Jenner was a big time icon to me. My dad was a runner at the same time (he was the European Champion of the 1 mile, among other things), so I grew up at major track meets, marathons, etc etc, and was super into track and field, while my dad competed at them and after he retired from competition. Jenner was a really big deal in my household. My dad was even at those Olympics. So however connected to Jenner you felt, I can almost guarantee that I was more connected. And I admire him more now than I did back then. This takes more strength. Why in the fuck would him living his life now have any impact on your memories???? You still have those memories (or if you don't, please don't blame Jenner for your memory problem).
(Edit: and I mean her and she, etc.... Sometimes I forget about changing the pronouns still! It's not intentional)

If I came across someone abusing (physically or verbally) Bruce Jenner I would stop and help. It's not like I view him as less of a person....I just view him as Bruce Jenner whether he's wearing a dress or not.

No more than republiphobia.
Man we are a sensitive bunch.
It's okay. Bruce is doing just fine. She just won an award for that matter.
Soon, transgender athletes can start kicking ass in the Olympics and rewriting the women's record books. There's no problem here with that is there?

She's not a cross-dresser. What she's wearing is totally irrelevant. Well, again, I really hope you understand this issue better in time.

Sensitive? Maybe. But I think we are an intolerant bunch, that's for sure. Disagreeing with republican viewpoints and actions is not the same as refusing to call a woman by her name because of the reasoning set forth above.
Re the Olympics, that's up to the Olympic Committee. Glamour chose to allow transgenders and they hit a home rum because people are actually talking about Glamour's Woman of the Year!

That is a really complicated matter that is actually the least of my worries when it comes to the rights and acceptance of transgendered people (and especially transgendered youth).

Yes, as long as there is sound reasoning, which I'm sure there will be. I understand there is a competitive advantage for people who were born male.
I'll admit that I couldn't tell you who Glamour chose as Woman of the Year last year (or any other year), so Caitlyn definitely has people talking and learning. When people learn, it's a good thing.

So, in other words, don't worry about it?
Let's accept transgendered athletes when it's time to accept transgendered athletes?
It might be the least of your concerns, but it's a significant concern for some. The issue I have raised is legitimate, concerning, and not, as you put it, complicated. It might serve the transgendered athlete quite well to embrace them as a woman in the competitive setting; however, doing that does not exactly take into account the obvious disadvantage this places other women at.

Chad Johnson changed his name to Chad Ochocinco. I always referred to him afterwards as Chad Johnson.
If you threw Caitlyn Jenner up in the thread title... I'd have to remind myself that it's Bruce, who's no longer Bruce, we're talking about.

Seems like transphobia is allowed on this forum, which is disheartening.
Yeah, apparently.
I still call him Harvey Korman

No more than republiphobia.
Man we are a sensitive bunch.
It's okay. Bruce is doing just fine. She just won an award for that matter.
Soon, transgender athletes can start kicking ass in the Olympics and rewriting the women's record books. There's no problem here with that is there?
Well, again, I really hope you understand this issue better in time.

Sensitive? Maybe. But I think we are an intolerant bunch, that's for sure. Disagreeing with republican viewpoints and actions is not the same as refusing to call a woman by her name because of the reasoning set forth above.
Re the Olympics, that's up to the Olympic Committee. Glamour chose to allow transgenders and they hit a home rum because people are actually talking about Glamour's Woman of the Year!

So its up to the Olympic Committee?
When they oppose the idea of transgender athletes... you're going to accept that?

That is a really complicated matter that is actually the least of my worries when it comes to the rights and acceptance of transgendered people (and especially transgendered youth).
Yes, as long as there is sound reasoning, which I'm sure there will be. I understand there is a competitive advantage for people who were born male.
