Disagree. While it is likely Hillary will get the nomination, Obama is likely urging donors to get behind her now only because she is so flawed as a candidate. If she wasn't his involvement wouldn't be necessary. Sanders should stay in and give voters unhappy with the DNC's installation of Clinton an alternative.

Wow, so the centrist in liberal clothing who filled his cabinet with Wall Street bankers and lawyers and abandoned his progressive principles tells the big money elite to unite behind their bought-and-paid-for shill, and that means Bernie should give up? Hahaha, keep drinking the Kool-Aid.
As Mr. Dylan said, "Your old road is rapidly fading, please get out of the new one if you can't lend a hand, 'cause the times, they are a changing"

I like Obama alright- he did a good job in terms of working within an old dying system- but I'm not at all swayed by him throwing support to a potential Hillary candidacy that would simply perpetuate that corporate driven system. It's time to step up to bigger changes. Bernie is the closest we've got. I just wish he were more biocentric (but then, most people don't even know what that means).

As long as Bernie doesn't attack Hillary, his presence helps Hillary. It keeps her in the news with free airtime. I think the Clinton campaign is okay with him staying in for a while longer. You don't want to cede the airwaves to Trump and Cruz until the conventions.

    Great article, Brian!!
    this quote struck me...
Consider: in North Carolina, Hillary Clinton only won Election Day voting 52% to 48%. Given the shenanigans in evidence during the live voting there — thousands of college students were turned away from the polls due to insufficient identification under a new voter-suppression statute in the state — it wouldn’t be unfair to call that 4-point race more like a 2-point one (51% to 49% for Clinton).
My ex wife had a problem voting in her new county precinct. they made her cast a provisional ballot and tried to discourage her from doing that. "she is a registered independent" that was voting in a historically Republican district. Our governor needs to be tarred and feathered and thrown out of office. Bernie absolutely destroyed Hillary in my part of the state.

He's not doing fine because he's in a dramatic hole that he needs to win ~60% of the delegates moving forward to overtake her. One of the main points of this article is that early voting doesn't matter. But it does. Voting takes place within a window of time, not just election day. It's a feel good piece, and I commend him for writing something as an avid supporter, but at the end of the day, it doesn't change the current state.

OK, I grant that "fine" is relative and possibly not the best choice of words, but Bernie certainly is doing better that many here and especially the media give him credit. My point is to balance out some of that negativity toward the Sanders campaign that is generated that way. Bernie detractors want us to throw in the towel early. No way!

Does he even have a path to the nomination? Just curious, is he staying in just to keep his issue in the media?

He has no realistic path to the nomination, but the only other candidate has very real and very concerning negatives. He will continue to get votes from Democrats who are not satisfied with Hillary Clinton and who are unhappy with the way this primary has been run. Plus he gets to keep his issues in the media.

And she gets to stay in the news as well, which is good for her. As long as he doesn't turn vicious on her. If he does, that will effectively end his productive career in the Senate though.

Well I hope not. He should spend his time talking about his policies and contrasting them the GOP side.

So let me get this straight... Bernie Sanders wants everything to be free socialist society. The "rich" people pay all the taxes and everyone gets to free load. Free college tuition so you can go to school and get degrees to further yourself, to get the better higher paying jobs, so you can get taxed at 90% after you start your great job???? Seriously?? The guy is just as nutty as Trump. He might not be labeled a biggot but he's still fucking nuts...

Well, I think this is a bit hyperbolic, but there's an element of truth. And it's really the problem with the policies. When you start taxing people at 45% at 200k family incomes, you start losing voters. Starting with me. I've been saying for a long time that the issue is the cost of tuition. But I don't hear Elizabeth Warren railing against her former employer (Harvard) who charges 60k a year for tuition while it sits on a 37 BILLION dollar endowment. Where's the outrage there, Senators Warren and Sanders?

Agreed. Where's the cap on tuition fees?? Where is the regulation for misuse of college funding?? Why does a college football stadium need to have a movie theater and bowling alley?? Why the hell should a college president make more than a million dollars?? Because it's just another corporation with the same lawyers and lobbying for loop holes and greed...

Exactly! Schools have become these vacation lands with innumerable meal plan choices, beautiful quads, exercise facilities, etc.. Well it wasn't like that when I went to a 36k student public school in FL. I went to class and then went to work at a restaurant that night. That was life and it was tough. I could only take 9 hours a semester due to work so it took over five years to graduate. I'm sorry, I don't have a ton of sympathy for white middle class students today.
