Bernie Sanders for President

meganrosemeganrose Northern, KY Posts: 133
We have a Ben Carson and Donald Trump for president, hell even Hillary on the forums, but no Bernie Sanders? The man who actually cares about the people and who has a history of being in the right for the better part of 50 years. The man who walked with MLK, supported gay rights even when it wasn't popular. The man who wants to see healthcare as a right for the people & not a privilege. The man who wants to see the minimum wage become a living wage. The man who wants to re-establish Glass-Steagall, which would assure the demise of the big banks who put our country in a terrible recession. We can't have an untrustworthy Clinton, or radical tyrants like most of the GOP candidates running this country. Vote for Bernie! Let's enact real change in this country!

    Same difference? Semantics? Dunno.

Anyway, been wondering if he'll venture into Independent territory and if so, the ripple-effects.

I don't think he will have to. Look, he's more liberal than Hillary(A lot more) and she's a "Dem" so I think that speaks volumes. He has to run as a Dem, because people automatically vote for Repub/Dem, So he has to give himself a chance in that respect.

He's a Democratic Socialist. And he's a joke? Have you not seen all the polls with him Beating Trump and Carson in a general election? He fairs better than Hillary against them.

If he doesn't get the Dem Nomination, he could run as an Independent in the general, and still pull millions of votes, but I don't think it'll come to that.

Just saying it could go either/any way. Could fuck him in the end (see Perot, Nader), but for me, in terms of voting, I tend to go with gut vs. party.

Why wouldn't I? I look at a candidates ideas and plans, and I *try* not to make a boogeyman out of the words the precede the name. Republicans make it very hard to do, they are just a hair shy of mental retardation nowadays, but I try. I would vote for Bernie over anyone else running. He wants to return our economic policy to the way it was when America was strongest, during the 40's, 50's and early 60's. What's the joke with that?
Oh, right, that's the period when McCarthy went full-on lunatic on everyone and the country lurched to the right and into economic trouble ever since.
And still to this day people are running around yelling "socialist" like it's the worst abomination in existence. People who work in unions no less lol. That's the joke, right there.

Btw, I am only in a Union cause we have 2 be in a Union. I would luv for my group to negotiate our contract w/o a Union backing.

I believe he can beat her, not because i'm biased towards him, but because of his growing strength with younger people. Also, he is doing a lot better among minorities. The more people see him and hear his ideas I think eventually he'll make a lot more headway. If he wins Iowa and New Hamp. it's a whole new ballgame.

    He can't.
We still are not ready for him yet. We are moving towards that. The Bernie movement seems slightly stronger than Ron Paul... and I expect whoever of the same cloth comes around in 2020 will gain a little more traction. More and more people are realizing that they can bind together and support candidates who have actual principles. Hopefully we can get there before the average citizens of this country have been picked to the bones.

Unfortunately, the voice of the establishment is still stronger than the people. If Bernie ever becomes a threat, Hillary or Rubio or whoever will just cart out the "Socialist" tag or something else 'controversial' that Bernie wont run from... and itll be all over. The news networks will run it on loop and average Americans will be scared away without ever listening to the guy.

I think it's less about his "electability" as it is what will happen if he actually wins. He can't just executive order his whole presidency. No one is going to agree to any of the shit he is talking about doing. So it'll be the same thing again where you have the president trying to do things (like universal healthcare with Obama) and since none of the other politicans want to play with him it'll end up getting screwed up if it even gets off the ground at all. That's the current issue with Bernie. I think a lot of young people like his ideas but they/we need to focus on getting people like him into smaller offices first.

I have thought about that. Nobody can expect Sanders to get elected and suddenly free healthcare and college for all.

But I think he can shed light and expose on a lot of the cancerous activities that go on in Washington if given that platform. If that is all that happens which leads to change in that regard, his presidency would have saved the nation IMO.

I sure as shit fucking hope not - I mean if Trump actually gets elected President I'm applying for a green card to Canada.

What I mean to say though is that at least in so far as Hilary has some support among the dems and Rubio (or whoever the most likely candidate is for the Republicans) has some support among the Republicans, Bernie has virtually no support on either side.

I guess I'm optimistic. Look, deep down we don't think he can win because he's extremely to the left and a "socialist"--We are stuck in the mire, politically--We think pure capitalism is the way to go, when we honestly need some sort of hybrid. The same ol, same ol won't do it. FDR was a socialist, in some respect and also a capitalist. There are very few who would dispute him being a great leader of this nation. Look up North, Trudeau is even more left than Bernie, and he got elected. Canada has universal healthcare and we can't because we want to save a quick buck and let Big Pharma dictate outrageous fees for prescriptions? He can win, he just needs great turnout--And yes, he can win Iowa and NH--You have to look into the way they do the polls. One poll in Iowa they surveyed 400 people, and none of them were under 30....And no one that had participated in a primary, before. If people vote, it's a lot closer than the Media wants to put on.

I started the "Bernie Sanders Campaign Kickoff" thread earlier here on AMT but I'm happy to move here to the discussion if for no other reason than I like the thread title...

    "Bernie Sanders for President"!

    Go Bernie!
