And why is Carney continuing with his theatrics, signing (meaningless) pieces of paper in the style of Donald Trump? If I understand it correctly, and I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, he’s assembled his team, mentioned some priorities, like a 1% tax cut, and will announce his budget at the end of May, either before or after the King speaks from the throne, kinda weird but okay. What’s the rush? Does the fiscal year start July 1st, October 1st or is it something weird like an 8 pack? And Carney flattering COOTWH while correcting him in the White House was great to see. Wish more Dems, Repubs and power brokers would do the same.09/15/1998 & 09/16/1998, Mansfield, MA; 08/29/00 08/30/00, Mansfield, MA; 07/02/03, 07/03/03, Mansfield, MA; 09/28/04, 09/29/04, Boston, MA; 09/22/05, Halifax, NS; 05/24/06, 05/25/06, Boston, MA; 07/22/06, 07/23/06, Gorge, WA; 06/27/2008, Hartford; 06/28/08, 06/30/08, Mansfield; 08/18/2009, O2, London, UK; 10/30/09, 10/31/09, Philadelphia, PA; 05/15/10, Hartford, CT; 05/17/10, Boston, MA; 05/20/10, 05/21/10, NY, NY; 06/22/10, Dublin, IRE; 06/23/10, Northern Ireland; 09/03/11, 09/04/11, Alpine Valley, WI; 09/11/11, 09/12/11, Toronto, Ont; 09/14/11, Ottawa, Ont; 09/15/11, Hamilton, Ont; 07/02/2012, Prague, Czech Republic; 07/04/2012 & 07/05/2012, Berlin, Germany; 07/07/2012, Stockholm, Sweden; 09/30/2012, Missoula, MT; 07/16/2013, London, Ont; 07/19/2013, Chicago, IL; 10/15/2013 & 10/16/2013, Worcester, MA; 10/21/2013 & 10/22/2013, Philadelphia, PA; 10/25/2013, Hartford, CT; 11/29/2013, Portland, OR; 11/30/2013, Spokane, WA; 12/04/2013, Vancouver, BC; 12/06/2013, Seattle, WA; 10/03/2014, St. Louis. How would this thread have reacted if Poilievre had said exactly what Carney did? We’ll never really know but it’s absolutely worth considering.
Halifax, the new government won’t be presenting a proper budget until next year, not next month. There is no clear justification for this, as there was in 2020 during covid."The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."

And that doesn’t change the fact that those are entirely valid questions and concerns."The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."

Put down the Toronto Sun. Take a breath. Relax.
You are finding flaws where to me at least no flaws exist. This is the bias I speak of. You say he sucked Trump's cock... I don't see it that way. At that in itself is far from the valid question and concern you speak of.
You mentioned the budget and all the rage from the opposition and the "unacceptable" lack of a budget and how there is no excuse for this and it's completely unforgivable. I can only suspect that this rage comes from the Sun and Polievre.
I'll toss up a rationale for there not being a budget at this point in time... see if this resonates:
The President is holding our economy hostage. He is on record saying he will be putting economic pressure on us. His tariffs threaten our economy as a whole and around 4% of our GDP. Auto plants are cutting shifts because of him. Large industrial plans are being put on hold because of him. He is also a nut job and has been flip flopping like crazy.
Our election was telling. And while Liberals won, they only won a minority, not a majority. Parties across the spectrum are all over the place. NDP doesn't even have official party status. The Conservative Leader doesn't even have a job. And you have separatist movements in Alberta and Quebec (PQ to a lesser extent).
Contrast that to what our PM has been saying. We will try to work with the U.S. but we will also be seeking alternative means of trading. He will be opening up intra provincial trading.
You honestly think that happens overnight?
His "Theatrics"? Ok. I'll offer another rational idea. You say it has no legal ramifications.. true. But pen to paper is symbolic. It signals his intentions. Intentions... in this case quite formal intentions.. are a good thing especially considering the same gripes you have about him. He can't deliver a meal (because of above) so he has offered a snack. It's better than nothing.
You remind me of a woman who looks at her boyfriend after he presents an engagement ring and says "Yeah, this means nothing until we sign the government documents that bind us as husband and wife." In this example... the woman wants to be married immediately. But the fella... well.. perhaps he needs some time to save money for the wedding that his woman requires. Time. Money. See?
Knee jerk reactions and immediate plans are NOT what we need right now. We need patience, we need precision. I would argue that it's near impossible to make budgetary plans with Trump behind the wheel in the States. Again... what has Carney been saying? This will take time. One meeting with Trump was never going to amount to anything and he knows that and shared that with the public.
Now... your boy Pierre. He's the leader of the opposition, I get that. But is he helping Canada right now? Or is he still in campaign mode trying to score political points the way he has been for 3-4 years now? And Sun media. Are they helping Canada right now? Or are they rage baiting again to try to maintain their levels of profit... making sure their readers get that steady dose of anti-liberal bias that they've come to love and trust?
A healthy democracy needs accountability and pushback. That accountability needs to be rational. And just like the PM and the government absolutely MUST be responsible to the people.... so does the opposition.Toronto 2000

Another quick note.. I'm not oblivious to the notion that if the shoe were on the other foot... The Conservatives were in power and the Liberals were the opposition ... I highly, highly doubt the Liberals would be acting any differently. It's this whole system that is problematic.
To your point about the budget... what's sad is that opposition parties are on record saying (and I'm paraphrasing here) "Hey! They haven't given us anything to complain about and scrutinize!!" Like legit.. that's their gripe.
What I'm suggesting is that after the election and with the current problems we have... how about some breathing room? How about some optimism? How about support for the country instead of the party? That's what we need. That's how we get through tough times. And if the Conservatives won, I'd be saying the same thing... you can believe that or not.Toronto 2000

if he's secretive, he's being corrupt.
if he's heavy handed with trump, he's irresponsible.
if he's soft handed, he's sucking his c***.
there is literally no pleasing some. and when you post absolute nonsense like this "It’s honestly adorable (and betrays your own biases) how my anti-Trudeau sentiments have been twisted into anti-Liberal beliefs." you lose all remaining credibility.

Hoping there’s maybe more agreement than head-knocking on this one, lol.
I need to stress again, this doesn’t mean I think there’s any foul play involved here. It was a technical or human mistake, the unfortunate part is that it was done by the organization tasked with running our federal elections and they don’t have any wiggle room themselves to account for something that may have been inconceivable when the relevant legislation was written and passed.
I also want to stress that I don’t care which way the uncounted votes go, I really don’t like that these voters were inadvertently(?) disenfranchised through no real fault of their own (I suppose they could have double-checked the return address information themselves). They acted in good faith and got screwed.
The only way I see to play fair at this point is to either force these votes to be counted or run a fresh byelection, and the only means to do this seems to be through the courts. As the article says at the end, if it’s a byelection then screw the cost.
Hopefully the government can amend the legislation to better allow for cases like this.

Unfortunately serious issues aren’t just limited to the Terrebonne riding. The column cites a riding where workers closed the polls at 2:30pm.
https://nationalpost.com/opinion/selley-its-official-some-canadians-votes-are-more-equal-than-othersIt occurred to me that since my local MP is a full member of the Cabinet, I should write his office to express my own disappointment with the lack of comment from the government and my hope that they will look into how these issues can be addressed moving forward. Again, not questioning the results or claiming any sort of foul play."The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."

I still don’t think we need to wait until the fall but it beats next year and I’ll take it as some sort of a positive.

How do JT’s numbers change when the full expense of his frequent flying is included? CTV acknowledges that those costs aren’t used in the analysis."The world is full of idiots and I am but one of them."
