I have no idea how one correlates being a murderous tyrant with being homeless. That is one insane stretch.

I don’t judge the homeless cuz I have empathy.  You don’t judge them cuz they are a product of their time? No clue what you’re saying here.

Coming to the defence of residential schools. That’s a new one. Mass graves or not, the system was horrific and caused generational trauma. Full stop.

Getting all worked up about an outgoing political leader having a little fun on his last day, during a traditional act that is already kind of silly, is weird.

I wasn’t suggesting Diana was murdered. She was subject to a systematic smear campaign from the royal family which lead the insane media over there to act even more reckless than they usually are. Refusing to continue protecting her post-divorce was a catastrophe waiting to happen, and they knew it.

The PC’s were never progressive. It was a failure of a branding campaign. Two PM’s ago was a guy who thought women should be barefoot and pregnant.
This is a big part of why you and I can’t get along here, your habit of twisting my words, instead of maybe asking me to clarify myself.

A better example was perhaps that I try not to judge people on the other side of the planet (of all walks of life) who live a life and usually a belief system that I will likely never experience directly. We can agree to disagree about how we perceive the world, is probably the simplest way to put it.

If you think I was defending the residential schools then I suggest you reread my post. All I want is a full and accurate accounting of our history, yes, warts and all. For all we know Trudeau was kneeling over a bottle cap, and we won’t know until the archaeological dig begins (as far as I can recall governments have put money on the table for that purpose so I don’t understand the delay).

Regarding Trudeau, reread my post. Further proof of his disrespect for our institutions is his choice of footwear for the Throne Speech, some snazzy green and red/orange Adidas sneakers. But many if not most here will applaud him for it. I don’t think you can actually read anything I write accurately that includes his name because of your perception of my supposed obsession.

Thank you for elaborating about Diana, that’s certainly one way to look at it.

“The PCs were never progressive.” Ok, how does that bullshit stereotype square with your claim that you don’t hate the political right? It’s that sort of silliness that has me ready to just walk away from at least this thread, if not the board.

AMT could easily be subtitled “Never the twain shall meet”, it’s sad, really.
I don’t judge others from other walks of life either on the surface. I judge actions. That’s it.

I don’t “applaud” JT for any of these things. I just simply don’t get all bent out of shape about them.

Bullshit stereotype? It’s simply my opinion that the PC’s weren’t progressive. Honestly, I don’t care that much if you keep attempting to label me as hating anything. I know I don’t. I’m not the one raging at the shoe choices of a political leader. I wouldn’t care if PP did that. I likely wouldn’t notice. Or I’d realize that fashion trends and traditions can be shaped and morphed along with the times. Young adults wear suits with sneakers to big events all the time. Should women should still be wearing corsets? Sounds like the republicans when Obama wore a tan suit.
I read the rest of your post, it might help if occasionally you acknowledge when you’ve gotten shit wrong and maybe even apologize when you put offensive labels on people (residential school defender).
This quote is defending residential school system as a “product if the time”:

“The revisionist history (we didn’t even have the word genocide until the 20th century, after the vast majority of colonialism had concluded) is more harmful than helpful since it doesn’t allow for any nuance or acceptance that it was a different world then, and often uses selective readings of the facts (look at the recent treatment of Henry Dundas).“

The fact it bothered you at all is the point, “for fuck’s sake”.
But please, do lament how your party should have the “progressive” label again.
Why don’t you ask me how I define progressive conservatism?

Or you could make an actual case for your “regressive” smear.
No one is stopping you from defining your version of it if you feel the need. I felt like I had a pretty good grasp of it, but have at er.

So you made one of your leaps and went for the smear. Why not ask for clarification from me regarding my views on the subject of residential schools, you’d probably find my views far more nuanced (something you tell me to extend to others) than you expect, though the details would likely confirm me as some sort of villain.

I’m guessing any questioning of the current narrative around the residential schools is considered defending them in your eyes? Because that’s all I did, really.

Seriously, how high is your horse, because I admit mine tends to be tall but it feels like yours towers over mine.

Free golden dome, and still you shoot us down?

He’d probably give y’all fifty electoral votes, fifty congresspeople, two senators…and let you keep your anthem, Parliament , PM,  health care, all for free…and if the Oilers win, then hey, why the heck not? What could possibly be more valuable with your dollar? Independent States have significant identity and diversity.

I hope this is said in jest. Canadians overwhelmingly don’t want a part of the chaos or cultural regression or apathy or gun madness on display from enough of your country (or at least a highly vocal cohort) to be highly noticeable.  Personally, no economy would ever be appealing enough to me want to push those things to the side.

51st State and “Golden Dome” are two of the stupidest ideas ever floated and taken seriously in the history of politics. Canada doesn’t need the US.

Behind most HUMOR is a percent of truth. I challenged Canadians to calculate the value of fifty electoral votes, fifty congressmen, two senators, perhaps more, which would be open to negotiation, while maintaining significant independence. That has significant value

anyone following politics certainly understands that America has a problem, which is not my fault nor my fellow Democratic voters. We have tens of millions of voters in rural and exurban America, who are not reachable to Democrats.

In addition to not knowing how to reach these voters, Democrats do not even know what to say. All we need to look at is what is said on this forum. Democrats have replied to extremism with their version of extremism, and it ain’t working with the majority of voters. The liberal movement is lost in the weeds, and we could use all the help we could get. But go on you being you, and let’s all root for the Oilers to win!

Good lord the ego. You’re not challenging anyone to think with this constant drivel.

Positioning yourself as the smartest in the room, while, at the same time, labelling an entire swath of millions of people in some kind of mythical political cognitive decline is laughable, if not completely stupid.

You aren’t wrong. We also have the option to buy into the big, beautiful Golden Dome if we want to remain Canada. Personally I think it’s worth the investment on first impression, we need to get much more serious about our national (and also continental) defence.

Democrats have replied to extremism with their version of extremism, and it ain’t working with the majority of voters. The liberal movement is lost in the weeds, and we could use all the help we could get. But go on you being you, and let’s all root for the Oilers to win!

Can’t fix stupid. And Canada as the 51st is just that, fucking stupid.

My comment does not support the 51st state idea. It’s challenging people to think. Something the left used to be good at.

At least the tariffs will help solve Canadas unemployment problem. Hopefully.
Think about what? The complete mess the US is right now? How the previous world’s superpower and defender of democratic ideals is no longer a trusted partner in that endeavour and can’t ever be trusted again?

    ”Think” about what, exactly?

Good lord the ego. You’re not challenging anyone to think with this constant drivel.

Positioning yourself as the smartest in the room, while, at the same time, labelling an entire swath of millions of people in some kind of mythical political cognitive decline is laughable, if not completely stupid.

Cry to your king, it's all voluntary, right?

That woman on this forum started calling me stupid again and you attack me as the smartest in the room lol ...Manitoba Genius...I'm doing tongue n cheek about your independence from the monarchy while crying about trump. I know it's a formality but the look is terrible. If you guys were smart you could figure out a better deal from Trump than the uk.. The monarchy does zilch for you. At some point I figured you guys would get sick and tired of watching Americans win your cup the and join the party lol. Hopefully that ends in 2 weeks.

Despite your lack of politeness I'm still rooting for you guys to end this 30-year nightmare
