For what it’s worth I’m becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the tone on this, where at this point I feel like I should despise my family that lives in the US. It’s an asinine place to be, especially since I know that most of the family did not vote for Trump.

Simply put I refuse to give in to that point of view, similar to how I won’t demand public statements of loyalty from anyone and won’t boo an anthem.

 It’s honestly kind of adorable how so many who have been so critical of Canada for years are suddenly wrapping themselves tightly in the flag.

if trump did one thing, he brought canada together. lol

The way I see it it’s similar to the early days of covid when everyone was pulling together. It’s going to be interesting to see when and where the fractures appear this time.

Trump's main goal is to isolate America and by attacking our closest allies, he's once again fomenting angst and animosity where none existed. All it does is make a lot of people dig in to nationalism a little bit more. Fuck that. He benefits from division and we all lose.

Usurp? That's a bit dramatic, no? Wouldn't be anything illegal about voting against a PM.

But, semantics aside, as long as PP doesn't try to radically change/kill social programs Canadians come to expect, or tax the poor & tax breaks for the rich, or begin showing trump traits, I would also hope they see what he can do even though he's not my guy.

But PP has to know he needs to be a bit more moderate under a minority government. And he'd be smart to do that. In four years he may get his majority and then blow the country up.

If, within weeks of the vote the opposition parties try an end-run around the result then that’s usurping to me.

 I was asked earlier if I supported Harper’s proroguing Parliament and in the scenario above I did agree.

 I’m sorry to bring up my dead horse of Trudeau but he was given two minority mandates but never really had to govern as such. First case was circumstances (covid) but the second case lands solely at Jagmeet’s feet.

It was him following the tradition of taking his seat from the House of Commons, something all MPs apparently do. But most aren’t photographed looking directly into the camera with such a childish display.

For him, in that moment it was just a room, not the House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament, I get it.

Interestingly... I'm somewhat dismayed by the 'Pro-Canada' - 'Anti-America' rhetoric from our people. 

It's justified only in the sense that yes, Donald Dooshbag is in deed attacking us and that absolutely requires a response. 

That said, our energy should in deed be anti-Trump not anti-America. And as for our sense of patriotism.... it's a bit annoying to me to see politicians and businesses capitalizing on it like pigs at a buffet. Milking it as stated above. 

I read an article...(fact check) but I'm pretty sure it was a CBC article...  they interviewed an Afghanistan vet and got his thoughts on the current state of things between us and the states.  He indicated that if 9/11 were to happen today, he would be less motivated if motivated at all to step up and help.  <- that to me is completely fucked and not what Canada stands for. 

I don't care that Trump is President... if a terrorist organization launches a similar attack against the US... I'll be there to help them and would support my government for helping as well.
