The Sonics are revered by garage rock fans worldwide, but they have always carried a little more weight in the Pacific Northwest. They are to Washington what Springsteen is to Jersey. So in early 2015 when the band dropped their first new record in 50 years, Easy Street Records in Seattle was their destination to celebrate Record Store Day with friends and fans. Performing to a standing room only crowd on RSD 2015, recorded by KEXP, and mixed and mastered by the great Jack Endino, the band ferociously tore through the night joined by a stream of luminaries paying respects to the kings of the Northwest. “Live at Easy Street" is what that evening sounded like. Now, celebrate Record Store 2016, because THIS IS THE SONICS. Limited to 3500 copies.

  • BLACK FRIDAY RECORD STORE DAY RELEASE

    Available: November 27th, 2015

The legendary Sonics are recognized as one of the hardest-hitting aggregates in rock’n’roll history. The Tacoma, Washington quintet blew the roof off the Pacific Northwest scene back in the mid-1960s with a raucous and righteous blend of vintage rock’n’roll and R&B, hot-rodded in spectacular fashion upon iconic discs such as “The Witch” and “Psycho.” The group’s savage, visceral recorded legacy remains a benchmark in communicating the power of basic rock, and since reuniting in 2008, The Sonics have brought their pounding, uncompromising brand of garage rock to all corners of the globe.

In celebration of The Sonics’ half-century as a recording act, we are proud to present this limited edition vinyl box set of their complete and essential Etiquette Records catalog. The contents of Fifty feature 34 tracks that constitute the true lexicon of Northwest garage rock, including “The Witch,” “Psycho,” “Boss Hoss,” “Strychnine,” “Cinderella,” and “He’s Waitin’.”

Fifty is packaged in deluxe fashion as three vinyl LPs: exact replicas of the Here Are the Sonics and Boom albums, along with a third disc of rarities. The 36-page LP sized booklet features a brand new oral history by all five original Sonics members and is illustrated with over two dozen previously unpublished images from the archives of famed photographer Jini Dellaccio. Last but not least, the box includes a 18" X 24" color poster.

Fifty is thus the last word on a small yet essential part of the American rock’n’roll landscape.

Limited edition available for Black Friday only
Deluxe all ‘tip-on’ box set with 3 LPs, book, folded 18”x24” poster, and download card
36 page LP-sized book featuring 5,000 word oral history of The Sonics, as told by all five original members and Etiquette founder Buck Ormsby.
Includes exact replicas of “Here Are The Sonics” and “Boom!” albums with “Volume 3”, a ten-track collection of Sonics rarities.

With the release of This Is the Sonics, The Sonics' original members Jerry Roslie (keyboards and vocals), Larry Parypa (guitar and vocals), and Rob Lind (sax, harmonica and vocals) reunited and enlisted bassist Freddie Dennis (The Kingsmen, The Liverpool Five) and drummer Dusty Watson (Dick Dale, Agent Orange) to round-out the powerhouse group. Recorded for KEXP, their upcoming record Live at Easy Street is nothing short of a masterpiece with special guests Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Chris Ballew (The Presidents of the United States of America), Matt Lukin (Mudhoney), Van Conner (Screaming Trees), Ben Shepherd (Soundgarden), and others. Live at Easy Street will be released on vinyl on April 16, and subsequently digitally available via iTunes.

Same. The RSD experience hasn't been good the past few years. More & more RSD tiles have been hitting eBay & discogs.com by record numbers by the same ma & pa record stores who continue to sell RSD tiles. Not sure why the organization running RSD doesn't put a stop to this. That and the high demand of limited edition RSD exclusive run titles, more & more folks are just out there buying RSD titles just to flip. Not giving a shit about the artist, music or product. In it just for the resale.

I agree. I miss the first few years of RSD where the lineups were small, you visited the local records store and easily got a few special releases. Now you have to wait in line for hours to have a shot, pressings aren't big enough, you get shut out, spend oodles on ebay trying to acquire something you really wanted....

I also hope this Sonics record makes it to Canada. I've found that quite often releases I want don't make it to RSD up here :(

I also agree. I used to absolutely love RSD when it was a celebration of music and vinyl. Now just seems like what you stated.

I haven't even gone the past two years. Used to look forward to it as one of my favorite days of the year. :disappointed:
  • Bumping all the threads about the music to the front page, because that's how it should be!
