I could see Ames pulling a fast one and somehow getting the band (or maybe a member or two) to sign all these gold editions. Wouldn't we all feel dumb canceling our orders then....

You know, oddly I was thinking the same thing......

Also the thought I had after it. Other than the bridgeschool Klausen print way back when, I dont recall a show print ever having an autograph on it.

EDIT: autograph from a band member that is. Klause and Vedder signed the AP a few years ago.

So is anyone waiting to hear back from Ames on the print run before throwing in the towel?

I was considering cancelling last night, I'm keeping it though, love the print too much. Ten years from now, the $50 or whatever they could refund me won't help me enjoy the print more, or matter much.

I think everyone should wait until Monday to see what else Ames has to say. I have a strong feeling they havent printed these yet if the original page says delivery in 3-4 weeks. Give it until Monday, see what the print size is, if it works for you cool, if not then go from there.

Guys, based on order numbers posted, there were less than 300 total orders across all versions. 130 regular. 85 chrome. That means less than 85 gold. Relax. It's still rare.

    Heard quite differently to this
Mine is based on facts - the posted order numbers. You really can't argue with that.
You could be right. Was told that over 400 sold of the gold. No guarantee that is correct though and if folk like the gold and intended to keep it - there's no harm done. Get it behind glass and move on.

They should have created a separate run, cancelled oversold orders and offered people who received order cancellations a shot at ordering the new run.

Above all, if their intent is to have something super limited, make clear how many there are. It's weird to number the regular AP and silver AP, but not the super duper limited "handful" run. I was initially just gonna let it roll because I like transformers and I like shiny posters but now I'm annoyed so I asked to cancel my order as well.

So now I'm hoping everyone cancels theirs and then I have the only gold variant.
Oh, and signed by the band please...

  • What is procedure to cancel? I do like poster and do want it - but not at that price point for the inflated size of the run

why would you need to file a dispute before nicely asking Ames to cancel your order/get a refund?

sort of angry - It's kinda like paying for a Cadillac and getting an Escort and the dealer saying oh well.
  • They should have just honored the first "handfull" of orders and then canceled the remainder. Everyone would be in the same position they would have been at that time if the sale was done as intended. I don't think people would have been pissed off either. They would have been dissapointed. The only negative to this would be those who bought the gold and could have bought a regular version before it sold out if they had known they weren't getting a gold.

Very strange way that they handled it. THey did not do anything for the customer but only tried to cover their own ass.

not at all (IMO)...they already stated that all orders will be fulfilled and $ will be donated to charity without giving the buyer the choice of a refund or to continue with receiving one...so why not go ahead and file already? Hedging your bets and smart if you ask me

why not give them a chance to refund after contacting them? By all indications, Ames just seems to want to do the right thing. I have had a lot of transactions with them and their customer service has always been top notch.

Does the window of filing a paypal claim go away after 24 hours or something?

I also don't think it's douchy. However, I don't know the mechanics of refunds, but I was told by a merchant who owed me on a hotel deposit that they weren't able to refund because I filed a dispute with my credit card company. Not sure about PayPal. They had to send me a separate payment back and there were weird transaction fee issues. Ultimately it worked out, but thought I should mention.

with PayPal, Ames just has to go to the filing/appeal and reply by refunding. All issues could have been avoided by a better customer experience and better decision making in resolving their error

I imagine Ames will need another day or two to figure out their plan. Based on just the responses here, it seems most everyone is unhappy with their response, including me. Hopefully they ultimately do the right thing and allow cancellations, as well as communicate clearly what our options are. If not, this will be my last Ames poster, which isn't much of a loss because there are so many other fantastic artists out there putting out great work.
