Cincinnati campus police shooting/killing during routine traffic stop off campus

New thread worthy? maybe maybe not, but given the circumstances of this particular shooting of an unarmed black man, I believe it is. Previously posted a link on the Bland thread with the intial reporting and police officers version of events. Now it seems as if there is some dispute of that version as reported earlier. The cop , a UofC campus cop, patroling off campus per agreement with the city , was wearing a body camera and prosecutors now have the video in full. Accordinng to the Cincy PD Chief, "it doesn't look good". No release yet as the DA wants to have grand jury first before release. I may be worng but I assume this means the cop was criminal in his actions. In a city that has had or continues to have issues with police misconduct in relatiion to treatment of minorities that garnered FBI and DOJ attention in the past , it will be interesting to see the way forward. City officials have already begun looking at needed changes via independent auditing they have set up.

Would expect it wasn't in park and his foot slipped off the brake. Reporting says it rolled. Which is different than sped off.

Seems like its being handled in a straightforward unambiguous way.

Looking to make excuses for the cop already? And what gives you the impression that the cop was scared? Did you read the article? The prosecutor in the article said he thought he acted out of anger.

He said DuBose did nothing to provoke Tensing's actions, and the officer seemed to act out of anger because DuBose wouldn't get out of the car.

I'm guessing you are wondering why the car moved to make a case to blame the victim also.

You're pretty good at putting words in my mouth.

Not at all. Sounds like the cop tripped and fell, got scared, and shot this guy.

You're not curious as to why the car moved during a traffic stop?

Thats the thing about guessing. You are wrong as often as right.

Sure. I'm not claiming that as fact. It's my opinion based on the article posted.

The car moving will be an issue that will come out in court. It is something I'd like more answers to.

The kid clearly went to the key when asked to remove belt. Why he moved is a head scratcher. That said,I finally saw the dash cam and it looks like mr 70s porn mustache campus cop pulled the panic button a wee bit soon. This is not good police work at all.The car even if moving forward was to his right,he wasn't in the line of fire per say.Not in imminent danger, therefore no need to fire his weapon.
He is going to need a good attorney. He needs to own his actions and face his day in court.

Dig,Scotty is right. We had lots of info and film early on that one.I take them each as individual events and can look at them objectively. This one I think the officer was out of line.

A good attorney isn't even going to save this guy. He pointed his gun directly at the driver's head and executed him for trying to take off. Awful. And it's a shame because he seemed to be handling the stop as a decent human being until that point.

What the fuck did he even pull that gun out for? Just saw this video. It really is sickening. Plain and simple, lack of training. Why is he opening this guys door before asking him to step out? He's got no warrant, there's no "lawful request" other than take your seat belt off.

What does he even trip on? I didn't really even see the car move. Stupidity.

I don't know Ohio, but it looked like there was a plate on the back of the car. Does Ohio have something that cars are required to have on the front? Like an excise sticker or something?

Ohio requires front and back plates.

Yeah I just watched, it happened so fast. Very sad. He was being polite and then bam, it's all over and a man is dead. I'm sure he was no angel, but he didn't deserve to die.

Not at all. I don't get what he saw in that split second to make him reach for his gun. His right hand was even on the roof of the car immediately before. He looked like Doc Holliday in Tombstone as fast as that was.

I think it was bad reaction just like most of these cases, this one is just particularly baffling.

Thankfully this officer was wearing a body camera.....if he wasn't.....who knows how the investigation plays out.

Maybe, hopefully, we are turning a corner and bad apples will be held accountable for their actions and on the flip side good cops will emboldened to call out the bad ones.

Couldn't be more accurate. Just Reading the article, there's definitely a question (in my mind) of why the car moved. But after watching the video, as I said before, I didn't even notice the car move. So I doubt it was relevant to why he murdered this dude.
