Are you talking about Republicans as politicians or as the average Joe?

    Likely a big difference, gimme.

And hopefully you're not talking about all, either way.

    does it matter?

when i talk about "republicans" i refer to the elected ones. but those who vote for them are just as wrong because they are still on the wrong side of the issue.

do your average rank and file republican still vote for incumbent republicans?

    yes they do.

care to address the contrast between the positions, or just try to discredit my post by pointing out a generalization?
So unless you are a liberal democrat you are wrong? Isn't that a constructive point of view. Hey let's just get rid of the the Republican party and let the Democrats run everything? The democrats have a delusion of reality just as much as the republicans.
Yes, in a way, unless you are a liberal democrat you are wrong... Do you know why?
Because this is supposed to be a democracy, the majority of the people are supposed to be represented by their elected officials. If the people have a will, it is the job of our government to enact that will.
In all the issues Gimme mentioned, there is a consensus, a majority opinion which should be upheld by the people we elect to do so. They aren't doing so because of money in politics, and because of a regressive, neolithic, greed driven group of individuals who have hijacked one of our parties, and use the checks and balances of government to oppose all progress.
And democrats/liberals don't go to the polls like those that want to kill brown people, impose their belief system on rest of us, export all the illegals that support republican business's(though republican politicians have no real interest of doing so) and ensure Chiniqua doesn't get that entitlement.
So now if you don't vote liberal/democrat you want to kill brown people? What the fuck are you people on?

Come on now you're really surprised?

    Many do.

Iran. Iraq. Evil doers. Only good Muslim is a dead Muslim.

    This is beyond juvenile.
Really BS? Heck who's wanting to bomb Iran? Middle East?

saying all republicans are racist is a stretch to say the least. i'd call it irresponsible.

not all republicans are racist but all racists are republicans...bet on it

It wasn't too long ago that even some Democrats were implying other Democrats were racist:

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0108/7845.html

A series of comments from Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, her husband and her supporters are spurring a racial backlash and adding a divisive edge to the presidential primary as the candidates head south to heavily African-American South Carolina.

The comments, which ranged from the New York senator appearing to diminish the role of Martin Luther King Jr. in the civil rights movement — an aide later said she misspoke — to Bill Clinton dismissing Sen. Barack Obama’s image in the media as a “fairy tale” — generated outrage on black radio, black blogs and cable television. And now they've drawn the attention of prominent African-American politicians.

“A cross-section of voters are alarmed at the tenor of some of these statements,” said Obama spokeswoman Candice Tolliver, who said that Clinton would have to decide whether she owed anyone an apology.

“There’s a groundswell of reaction to these comments — and not just these latest comments but really a pattern, or a series of comments that we’ve heard for several months,” she said. “Folks are beginning to wonder: Is this really an isolated situation, or is there something bigger behind all of this?”

I suspect it is similar to a skunk not being able to smell its own scent. Or a bunch of people all eating garlic, won't be offended by others' garlic breath. Perhaps dogmatic Dems are not able to recognize or acknowledge racism in other Dems. As far as I can tell racism isn't a partisan issue. It is alive and well in both parties, and likely has more to do with demographics in terms of geography and upbringing. As RR pointed out, Southern Christian Democrats were about as racist as they came, and it was pretty institutionalized.

Middle East?

    the answer is very simple.

the world, and this country is changing. republicans do not want change. they do not want the status quo to change. as a strategy, they lie and lie and lie and deny deny deny, as if being dishonest and being in denial will make the changes go away.

look at the changes since 2001.

we are war weary and do not want war. republicans have never met a war they didn't like.
american has always been tight with israel. many americans are waking up. not the republicans.
the majority of americans want gays to be able to marry. republicans don't.
majority of americans want legal marijuana. republicans don't.
a vast majority of americans feel that climate change is man made and want action on global warming. republicans don't
most americans want religion out of politics. republicans want the 2 to be hand in hand.
most americans want the super wealthy to pay more in taxes. republicans don't.
most americans oppose citizens united. republicans feel that money is speech.
most americans want abortion to be legal and convenient to have if necessary. republicans don't.
most americans want an increase in minimum wage. republicans don't.
most americans want wall street reform. republicans don't.
more and more americans want medicare for all, or a single payer insurance system. republicans don't.

there are more, but these are the few that just popped to mind.

look at that list. republicans are on the wrong side of every one of them, and as a result, on the wrong side of history.

if you are a party who sees the writing on the wall in a changing world and you want to stop the change, what are you going to do? lie and deny and hope it goes away.

Derailed and think Gimmies post was spot on for this thread.

I voted for Gay Marriage. I think abortion should not be used as a form of contraception, but that is my opinion. If a women wants to do it then so be it. I am not sure if they wanted to do it in the third trimester I would agree, but again not my problem. I want pot legalized. I was in the Army and you can believe me or not but many Iraqis thanked me and my unit for getting rid of Saddam, There were chemical weapons found, but no one cared.

I guess I am more libertarian if I want to label myself. I think our government spends too much money and gets in our business too much. Both parties too.

Fascism is a completely left wing phenomenon. I don't think you have to worry about it coming from republicans.

Ummm wrong... The original Fascist state was Italy which opposed liberalism and Marxism, the same applies to the Nazi regime. Both were ushered into power by reactionary fear of Bolshevik Marxism, or communism as we call it today.
Nazis were by definition National Socialists. Mussolini was for state control as well. You should read Liberal Fascism by Jonah Goldberg for some context. The battle between Russia and Germany post Molotov-Ribbentrop pact was far more about power then it was about ideology. Both believed in total state control.

YOu don't seem to be considering reality here. The Nazi Party by definition was a fascist regime. They just called themselves National Socialists in order to get themselves into power.

Look, I by no means am 100% behind republicans or Democrats. This question can be argued back and forth. However, the bottom line is that to some extent the government must be involved in the lives of its citizens. Having too much involvement is very unhealthy, but a minimum must be kept to make sure that people are not committing crimes or putting other people at risk.

Gimme's post is spot on for this thread. Frank's? His is off topic. We are discussing republicans and how they are at war with reality…

In starting this thread, it is about the insistence of a political party to live in never never land rather than to get with it and address real issues with realistic strategies. They do not.

In starting this thread, it is about the insistence of a political party to live in never never land rather than to get with it and address real issues with realistic strategies. They do not.

Is the thread solely for people to agree with that premise and bash one party? Those offering other perspectives, regardless of affiliation, are unwelcome?

RR, I know this is an emotional reaponse, but I know also that you understand how civil disobedience works. What you are proposing is that people quit seeking change and start acquiescing.
