Lots of people are speculating lots of things. I find it crazy that this seems to have happened due to a safety measure that was introduced after 9-11 to protect the cockpit from being entered by people who wanna take over.

It is a sad tragedy all around, for everybody involved. I hope they find out soon what exactly happened.

Much speculation indeed. Heard that if this plane was even equipped with the security keypad outside of the cockpit, whomever is inside can override it (presumably for safety reasons as well).

Regardless of whatever comes to light, the screams of the passengers are beyond heartbreaking.

I think I read somewhere that there is a video out there where you can hear them - so that is really true? This is awful. So awful. Why would anybody publish something like that?
  • There are so many things in life where we trust each other with our lives. We leave ourselves vulnerable in so many situations. If one was to consume themselves with fear for the leap of faith we take every day doing everyday things... one would go mad. Things can go very badly doing almost anything when some scumbag asserts his madness.

I feel horribly for those people- a horrific end to their lives. I feel nothing for that loser.

And for me... another event to consider when nervously flying.

The Canadian government just announced that all Canadian airlines will now require two people in the cockpit at all times starting today.

Unreal. I hope the dude didn't just snap and decide to end it with 160 other people on board. I'd like to think he was in there just have a seizure. It's hard to think that a pilot would do that on purpose. But the SPECULATION and a French prosecutor is saying otherwise.

Apparently it was a controlled and steady descent, and not what a plane would do if someone was just incapacitated and not controlling the plane properly. Looks like it really was on purpose.

  • creepiest part I read was that he was dead silent. his breathing didn't even change. no fear, anxiety, nervousness, he just calmly and systematically went splat against the mountain. just heartbreaking.

According to a German newspaper, there could be different scenarios besides the co-pilot being on a suicide trip.
Apparently, there was another incident with an airbus in november 2014 in Spain, where a similar scenario was happening... Sensors froze and resulted in a miscalculation in the flight computer.

    Sudden loss of cabin pressure

    poisonous fumes in the cabin

dangerous luggage, like suddenly exploding batteries

    terror attack

Hopefully, they will fully resolve this.

Supposedly on the cockpit recording, the pilot can be heart trying to use the security keypad. This whole thing just seems beyond bizarre. I don't think there's any way to make sense of it.

We don't know this and if pilot did do this flying a plane nose first into a mountain isn't cowardly. Committing suicide isn't cowardly. Mental sure.

  • Just read the autopilot was manually reprogrammed to descend to 100 feet. Doesn't sound like an accident from a lot of the reports coming out. Very sad.

    I can´t believe it.
It´one thing if something like this is happening anywhere in the world, but when the pilot was born in your area it is getting a complete different meaning.
His parents will have to live with that like all the other familys and friends...till the rest of their lifes...and they maybe will feel guilty for the rest of their lifes...

    This is so unbelievable...
I´m still hoping for another reason to be the truth, a tragic accident...but sadly this will not happen...

It's cowardly in a way, but intrepid in a way as well. I don't care for the tendancy to label murderers as cowards, it just isn't good use of language. There are plenty of expletives to use.

I think it usually is the same in Europe. Maybe Germanwings had a different rule about this, I don't know. And I am sure things will change. They always do after something like this happened. It just sucks that people have to die like that before the system gets another improvement.

Edit: just reading up a bit, it seems Lufthansa was definitely ok with only one person in the cockpit, and there is no such rule like the one in the US in Germany. And apparently other countries either.

I think it has more to do with the co-pilot apparently acting alone, and it wasn't a politically or religiously motivated attack. ISIS isn't going to claim responsibility. I agree it was more like mass murder - or a mass murder-suicide. Hopefully they find some answers in those boxes they removed from his apartment.
