Actually, for such a narcissistic group, marriage equality is certainly a common thread, legalization of marijuana as well. Sounds pretty damn liberal if you ask me, not to mention, that hardly any of them are actually voting.

Makes no difference. The 2 party system is really one party - the machine. When are folks going to wake up to the fact that the illusion that either party makes a difference in how this country is run is a fallacy?

We're all being snowed that either party gives a damn about anything other than greed, power and themselves.

This always seemed like a cynical cop out to me. Like apathy has sunk in and you give up.

Did I say I gave up? I voted. Did you? What I say above is the way things are. Whether you choose to accept it or choose to pretend that sides make a difference.
No, I said give up, you said it 'makes no difference'. What you're describing is giving up on seeing how things are different between the two parties, and that policy is changed and programs altered because of one party having power. This happens on a national level and a state level. Watch how an original proposal gets halted or watered down because of the other party. Watch what happens when an anti-union governor gets elected compared to another state that has pro-union legislators and gov.

What you are describing are the minute details of making these 2 parties appear different. When really, they are run by the same machine. Different scapegoat at the top, same outcome. Every. single. time. The lobbyists win, not any one party.
So Democrats seek to teach creationism in school and fight unions and wage hikes? Democrats are anti-science and climate change deniers? Seems to me there are clear differences.

I see this as move really to get something anything done and moving again. Its more a referendum on Reid than it is on Obama.

My honest knee jerk thought is 'Wow. Americans are either stupid or oblivious or both.' Which was my same thought about Canadians when they voted in the conservatives as a majority, so please don't take offense Americans, lol.

I gotta love how the first thing all the R's that won said was how they want to start working together now and they hope now D's will actually work with them. Guess they figure most ppl forgot they shut down the gov't, made public comments that they will not support anything D's do, and said they won't help ppl just because it will look like a win for Obama (immigration comes to mind). The US population has a very short memory and they know it. Oh and suppressing minority and student voting doesn't hurt their cause either.

I also agree that it's a small swing in the large machine controlled by money and lobbyists...

As an Independent who Doesn't wear a D or an R on my sleeve it's almost comical to read the same vitriolic rhetoric being blabbed from both sides.
You hard core Dems on here are blind to think this whole mess with those unproductive idiots in power is all the Republicans fault.I realize the Demographic on this board is 95% liberal Dem so opinions will be biased. But sheesh, for every claim of incompetence and Racism the D supporters throw out there,I as someone not taking sides see the incompetence and reverse racial bullshit the Dems are throwing out(Sharpton and Jackson the two biggest stirrers of the racial pot).
Until everyone of the hard line party Kool aid drinkers try's reaching a helping hand and attitude toward the other side no progress will be made.We stand divided on almost every issue with clear thinking moderates on both sides becoming extinct in favor of far right and far left ideas. This country is split down the middle almost exactly. Before either side throws stones they need to clean up their own shit, and there is plenty to clean.

I agree for the most part except where you said "far left"... If you look at it from a historic perspective the whole system is shifted rightward and the " lefties" are what used to be center. Where are the open communists and socialists? Where are the truly anti-corporate politicians? Where are the truly antiwar politicians? The true non-interventionists? They don't exist because the whole system has been dragged to the right.

I would consider myself left of the democrats. I am an independent. the dems are too soft for me. One of the reasons they got destroyed is that they don't stand up for their beliefs anymore. Too scared of the Republicans to stand up for anything. There is no party that represents my beliefs. Dems are prob the closest but I have very little respect for most of them.

That is exactly what scares me about these two candidates. They are known for cooperating, with the corporate powers. More citizens united shenaniganery, goodbye net neutrality, more team america world police, goodbye hopes of a good version of ACA, more tax cuts for the top 1%, goodbye small businesses.... A continuation of the Clinton or Bush dynasty is not what we need to reclaim our democratic principles.

well, its a reasonable argument that there are term limits each election. However the point also needs to be made that serving in either chamber wasnt necessarily intended to be a fucking retiring career choice.

I think if we aren't going to have limits in place for The Congress as a whole , then they need to remove the limit of 2 terms on the president.

Really, though unless and until every state adopts some kind of nonpartisan redistricting , nothing is going to change at all. Even with new people being voted in.

Fiance's daughter didnt vote. college student. Kind of insane if you ask me. she is picking up the last two years of her loans by herself. $$$ Liberal Arts school. Would have thought she might be more long term view on this. Shame.

Sad to say, I'm from KY and the boobs in this state reelected that douche McConnell. Typical drivel is that he's the lesser of two evils, there aren't any better choices, blah, blah, blah. Until voters get their head out of their ass things will never change. I've voted every which way, independent, republican, democrat and at the end of the day I think they are all the same. Out for number one and a slave to corporate interests. If American's could ever realize that these politicians are pandering to the beliefs of their constituents then they might quit electing and reelecting the same people, regardless of party affiliation, and start sending a real message. I'll start holding my breath now.
Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?

Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...
