Good points made about how the kid will be screwed up for life because of this fiasco.

The rest of you are not taking this thread very seriously.... although I must admit, if I were stoned I would be laughing my ass off. ;-)

    Excellent idea.

    Anyone?

i don't think blanks recoil do they? i never shot blanks so i don't really know
There is a little recoil with blanks, but most of the recoil seems to be related to the speed and weight of the bullet itself. If you fired blanks and live rounds from the same gun you'd definitely feel the difference.

chadwick, I don't know either - I've never shot a gun before, period.

And yeah, jose...I'm guessing some therapist is going to make a shitload from this down the road.

cause you don't get to see those pop cans blow up. you also don't get to see where the bullet holes would be on a person in real life and who doesn't want to see that?

At the end of the day this was a 9 yr old who's parents put her in harms way no matter which way you cut it child services should get involved and see if these two morons ARE CAPABLE OF BEING RESPONSIBLE PARENTS , so far they have failed this child ....

Impossible for child services to get involved, because what they were doing was completely legal. That would be the same as calling child services because some parents allowed their 9 year old to ride a roller coaster that flew off the tracks.

  • I'm at a point where I don't care what happens when it comes to firearms in the USA. As long as we don't adopt a similar gun culture in Canada I'm more than comfortable with the US doing whatever it wants in regards to firearms ownership.

Oh sure, I didn't mean folks in cattle country. Of course there are legit reasons for some Canadians (and Americans) to have guns, and I know there are plenty of hunters in Canada too (I've never known any though). Just talking about where I'm from (Vancouver). Hardly anyone in these parts (besides gang members) can even relate to gun ownership - certainly not in urban areas. But in the US it seems like having a gun in the house is the rule rather than exception, and that just seems strange to me!

Not everyone here owns a gun or even likes them. Please do not generalize the entire population due to what the media and the NRA tells you.

No worries. It's not my business to judge how Americans choose to govern themselves. It seems every time there is a new gun incident the same arguments are made and people move forward with their lives. It's something distinctly American and as such, something that non-Americans probably can't speak to that well. I don't think your gun culture is going away anytime soon and I honestly don't think it's something that we non-Americans can fully appreciate.

that little girl's dad & maybe mom probably shoot at that gun range. this means the family is a member of the gun range. to be a member paperwork needs be done. i would guarantee that that girl's parents filled out forms so she could shoot.

sad thing is, it is all the fault of the gun instructor. you do not give a gun to a child with multiple rounds in it. that is a big mistake. i am sure that is a semi automatic, not automatic. you do not teach children to shoot with semi automatics w/ multiple rounds in the weapon

only a very bizarre nonthinking person would do such a thing

young people & first timers learn about gun safety & shooting w/ one round at a time. end of story

here ya go kid, take this glock 9mm, ten round capacity but i only put in four rounds for you, have at it. oops!
here kid, take this 357 magnum, its ready to rock fully loaded... whoops
here 57 year old who's never touched a gun before, here's a loaded uzi....

later the 57 year old runs home & brag to his friends i shot a fully automatic uzi at bobby's hillbilly gun range down yonder. (3 days later) i guess i wasn't educated on guns, it's a semi automatic

was it even a fucking uzi?

    Interesting thoughts.

Anti-gun people will blame guns in school shootings and despise the deaths of people, except when it suits their agenda, or so it seems from some of the replies here.

no, even my lizard brain can tell the difference between negligence in an accidental shooting at a gun range, where guns are allowed, and a cold, calculated, mass shooting at a school where guns are not allowed.

No, I am saddened a COMPLETELY preventable death has occurred yet AGAIN.

I simply cannot fathom how any sane parent thinks its ok to train their child in the use of a machine gun.

I get hunting rifles and the like but fuck sake when is it enough?

    enough was enough at columbine.
then enough was enough at virginia tech.
then enough was enough at fort hood.
then enough was enough at sandy hook...

the point is, enough will never be enough to have a real discussion about guns in this country. as long as the 2nd amendment is interpreted as "fuck it, anybody who wants a gun can have one and anybody who wants to shoot stuff can do it!!!!" nothing will ever, ever be any different.

Pure manipulation. Probably written purely to satisfy one's side in the entire gun argument at large rather than addressing this specific incident.

machine gun - hunting rifle not much difference with many models. although hunting rifles travel a hell of a lot further down range than any uzi or gangster thompson machine gun ever dreamt about. high power rifles are illegal to use in iowa to hunt with except for coyotes, why? i haven't any idea. legally you can not deer hunt with a 30/30 or a .243 or a .306 or whatever here in iowa but you can smoke a coyote with one. odd as heck & ridiculous as coyote hunters use 4x4 trucks, cb radios, dogs, beer & haven't a problem hangin out on the road. fuckers!

i call the sheriff on their silly asses

It's definitely people at fault for school shootings.

This doesn't change the fact that guns are tools made for killing. The average joe doesn't need a tool for killing unless they are a hunter. In which case... they should be able to access a hunting rifle or shotgun to hunt provided their background is solid.

Only the military and tactical response police teams need assault rifles and handguns. Their job, sadly enough, is one that requires advanced tools. Your neighbour doesn't need an assault rifle. Good times like shootin' shit shouldn't trump public safety.
