9-Year-Old Girl Accidentally Kills Shooting Range Instructor
Seriously, I hate guns to begin with but accept the American love for these deadly weapons… to a point. Teaching kids to use guns? Don't get me started.

An 8 year old was killed shooting an UZI at a gun show several years ago due to the recoil.

unsung I stopped by on March 7 2024. First time in many years, had to update payment info. Hope all is well. Politicians suck. Bye. Posts: 9,487We have a thread discussing this already.0

Yes, this was mentioned in a general gun thread but this is so outrageous it deserves it's own thread. Putting any gun in the hands of a nine year old: irresponsible and (in my opinion) unethical. Putting an UZI in the hands of a nine year old: all of the above plus, FUCKING STUPID!"It's a sad and beautiful world"-Roberto Benigni0

Unbelievably stupid. Not only is the guy dead, but this poor girl has to live with this for the rest of her life. And why? Because her ignorant ass parents want to make sure that their 9 year old can protect herself from all of the terrorists that will be invading her home? Or that she needs to know how to shoot an Uzi before Obama takes them all away? How fuckin stupid can people be?0

I'm not sure what to say about it? As a child, I grew up respecting guns- we had many as my father was an avid outdoorsman and we hunted. I learned how to handle weapons and use them. It's not a horrible idea to teach your children responsible use of a firearm... especially if they are spending time out in the wilderness with a gun in their hand. I'm not sure of the need to learn how to use a gun for a child that lives in an apartment in the middle of a city who has never seen a tree (is learning how to 'shoot shit' a good enough reason?).
Everybody is a responsible gun owner until they become irresponsible and can no longer point their finger at someone else.
And have we seriously gone from taking videos of our children playing sports, playing with animals, or enjoying a ride at Disneyland to those where they are firing machine guns?

Can't get over how weird America is about guns. Seriously, I can only think of one Canadian that I know who has ever even handled a gun outside of that Vegas firing range. Me, I've seen a gun once, and it scared me and everyone else there that the person had it with him. For most people where I live, handling firearms isn't even a consideration. Why should it be??? And in the states kids are playing with uzis and everyone's talking about teaching kids how to use deadly weapons. WTF?? So foreign to me!With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata0

I'm a little unclear on how you have to be 16 to drive, 18 to vote, 21 to buy alcohol but can legally handle an Uzi at the age of 9.

This definitely isn't the norm here in Texas north (alberta). I don't think I know anyone here who hasn't shot a gun outside a range. My kids (8 and 10 at the time) were shooting a .22 this spring at my mom's ranch. I enjoy shooting at targets but don't hunt, nor own a gun of my own....so I was uneasy about it; watched them like hawks and never let them get outside arm's reach with it. That said....there are legit reasons to have a rifle on a livestock ranch, so I can see teaching kids who spend a lot of time in the area gun safety at a young age. My neice and nephew live in the area - they learn it in school. But teaching some vacationing kid to shoot an automatic uzi? wtf?PJ_Soul said:Can't get over how weird America is about guns. Ya, wouldn't want to shine additional negative light on your cause. Hope you're keeping all of your anti-cop discussions to one thread too.unsung said:We have a thread discussing this already.

I guess the alcohol lobby needs to step up its money game in order to get its age limits removed, so it can compare to the gun lobby...Gern Blansten said:I'm a little unclear on how you have to be 16 to drive, 18 to vote, 21 to buy alcohol but can legally handle an Uzi at the age of 9.

So true, but I think they're too busy taking on the legalization of Mary Jane. Or something like that.0 -
Oh sure, I didn't mean folks in cattle country. Of course there are legit reasons for some Canadians (and Americans) to have guns, and I know there are plenty of hunters in Canada too (I've never known any though). Just talking about where I'm from (Vancouver). Hardly anyone in these parts (besides gang members) can even relate to gun ownership - certainly not in urban areas. But in the US it seems like having a gun in the house is the rule rather than exception, and that just seems strange to me!Drowned Out said:

Marijuana's a dangerous drug, my friend. You could crave chips. Or cookies. Or laugh a lot and disturb the crowd so they don't notice someone nearby being shot! See? With today's fresh water shortage... that's all we need is a bunch of stoners with dry mouth draining the creek beds.

See that's where the alcohol industry can team up with the Mary Jane industry, problem solved. On to the next matter at hand.........0
