Does that mean you're sleeping right now?

My friend almost did it. It's not a simple thing. You have to have a regular doctor who you see regularly, after trying other crap like adjusting diet exercise environment and pharmaceuticals the doctor might recommend you for a sleep study. Then you have to have an appointment with the specialist & they send you home with some gadget you hook up to yourself to sleep with, then you have to go back and hand in the gadget, wait for "the results", get referred to the place where you sleep there with them watching you, and insurance doesn't cover the whole thing. I think he had to pay 20%, plus all those co pays for all those visits. And in the end it's just for them to confirm what you already figured. He got up to the "go sleep at this place" part when he gave up. After the take home gadget they're like "you have sleep apnea" he's like "yea... I know. Fix it!"

I seriously doubt my insurance would cover any of this nonsense.

That's what I was thinking...I don't have 'insurance', I have that savings account the company puts money into (kinda like FSA, but they got rid of that and forced everybody to do the HSA). There are other things I need to use that money on.

My Insurance covered the in-home study. My Doctor told me that most Insurance will cover the in-home, but a lot won't cover if the Doctor wants you to go to the Sleep Study Center.

Well, when i went and picked up this device, the person who gave it to me said that being at the Sleep Study Center is A LOT BETTER then the in-home one. Nothing i can do about it. I know when i didn't have insurance and my Doctor wanted me to go to the Sleep Study Center: it would've cost me $8000 !!!>Maybe that's why Insurance won't cover going to the Sleep Study Center? I told another Doctor what they wanted to charge me and he said: "That's a rip-off."

Maybe you can ask your Doctor for the in-home study and MAYBE your insurance will cover it? I know it's not the best but it's better then nothing, i guess.

Would a sleep study actually serve a purpose for people with insomnia though?
I feel like you'd just be laying there unable to sleep and feeling awkward.

I doubt they'd be wasting their time with it if it serves no purpose.

Why you can't sleep, so that hopefully they can choose an appropriate course of action.

    Yeah, i think this^^^^^^

I think the Sleep Study Center will give you "something" to MAKE you sleep. The doctor gave me a pill(sorry don't remember what it was) to take when i got there. But, like i said, i had no insurance then and when i find out it was $8000 i didn't waste my time. So, i don't know if that pill would've worked or not.

I usually wake up at about 3 and toss and turn until 430 or so which really sucks since I get up at 515.

The sleep studies aim to determine what the sleep issue is, since there are lots of potential problems. Sleep apnea is a big one that gets diagnosed, but some people are woken up by restless legs or myoclonic jerks, some people have REM sleep disorders, some people have cardiac or other physical issues that get in the way, etc. If you are just lying awake with a lot on your mind it's likely to be less helpful but you might still find something useful out. The real issue then is finding a non-pharmacological solution to help you relax and naturally fall asleep, and you can learn to retrain yourself. I'm sorry to say they usually don't recommend using a computer/phone/tv or any sort of screen when you're trying to get back to sleep

That's what I wasn't understanding. I didn't know there were physical things like cardiac or myotonic that could cause insomnia. My bad. I kinda thought it was just like you can't sleep. Like can't fall asleep or fall asleep then wake up in like two hours and that's it.

Ever since my hip replacement surgery I have CONSTANT restless legs...I literally cannot make them sit still for more than 5 seconds at time...it's gotten to the point where I don't even notice it's happening anymore during the day...I wonder if that is what's waking me up? Although a medication I take for migraine prevention is also used to treat restless legs, and I take it at night, so it may be working on that as well...maybe I dunno, but now you make me wonder....lol

3:30am is not an appropriate time to wash dishes right?
I have a ton of energy but I don't want to make too much noise cuz it's a schoolnight and I feel for the people downstairs. I'm assuming my floorboards are as loud for them as the ppl above me are so I don't wanna be walking around the bedroom and living room too much. That leaves me with a pretty limited number of options for activities that do not include sitting on my ass. I doubt i'd have hot water at this time but if I do I worry the noise might echo through the window (it's a flat bottomed U shape with my window in the bottom facing out)

I guess I could just read until like 5-6 when the noise from outside starts.
