i got Ambien and while it does make me fall asleep and stay asleep it also leaves me brain dead in the morning.

Ahh. I use this tactic on a regular basis (without a prescription, lol). I dunno. It doesn't hurt, but it really doesn't help either. Not unless I am also drunk, lol.

Picked up some herbal sleep pills today. I tried all those things years ago & didn't find they worked but hell it was years ago & there's new things out there now + I'm a lot older etc so see if they work now. It says take 2 1/2 an hour before bed & take one more if you wake in the night so sounds worth a go. Boss at work was lovely to me again today - "thank-you morello(she used my real name of course)" "well done morello" & I just thought WTF!?!?!? This is what she'd been like all the time until she spat the fucking dummy at me last week. Wow! Talk about 2 faced flip flopping!

Ok, here's to a good herbally aided sleep tonight. :)

So, I slept like a log 10-4 the other night then took another of the pills like the packet suggested but no luck. I got back to sleep at about 6 I think, just in time for my alarm at 6:20. >:P

Mannnnnn I had such a good night last night. 7 hours with only one interruption. And tonite it's like "...... nope!"

Don't wanna do an Ambien cuz I'll be a zombie until halfway through the day. Don't wanna do an herbal cuz I'm afraid I'll oversleep.

Damnit brain chemistry why do you hate me!

I've been playing the new Sims game & there's a feature you can earn called neverwary or something like that which makes your Sim not require sleep. I want someone to make that shit in real life.

When i was pregnant i used to listen to one of those relaxing cd:s.
This calm voice made me feel so relaxed that I fell asleep earlier and earlier for every time lol.
Anyone else tried this? (You can probably borrow these at the library.)

Yes, this can help. I actually have a CD with ocean waves and the sounds of sailing on it, as well as a sound machine that has rainfall, a heartbeat, waves, and I think the jungle. It does make a difference. I also find that a fan helps, because of the fresh air feeling plus the noise.

I can't do headphones. Makes me paranoid. I end up taking them off every 5 seconds cuz i think I heard something which turns out to be nothing. A friend has promised to supply me with some concoction called DreamWater which is just Melatonin and two other herbal-ish things in beverage form. I'll report back here if/when I try it.

Yeah, no headphones because I'd never hear my alarm in the morning. I just have to blast it. Not great if you've got a partner who's not into it!

I've slept for years with ear plugs because I tend to be a very light sleeper and if I'm woken up by noise in the night I may be awake for hours. In fact, as strange as it may sound, I have custom earplugs (made by an audiologist) that are super comfortable. I feel like I'm in a quiet little cocoon. This won't work for people who are freaked out if they can't hear what's around them, but it works for me.

Yeah, there are definitely safety issues with that. Fire is the thing that came to my mind. Would hate for anyone to sleep too long during a house fire because of earplugs!

I posted this before, but try Sonata. I guess it doesn't stay in your system as long as Ambien so if you wake up at 3 you can take it and when you get up in the morning, you don't feel all drugged out.

    Is Sonata prescription? Or OTC?

Yes, I have a dog. That's part of the reason why I sleep with ear plugs - she's not the quietest sleeper. I know without a doubt that I'd wake up if our smoke alarms went off - the ear plugs are good, but not that good. And I guess I'll just accept the exceedingly small risk that some stealthy person will break in as part of life.

Nope...Can't sleep. Don't want to take any valarian now otherwise I'll sleep till noon.
I have a 'relax and sleep' app on my phone that lets you make your own custom sound machine noise. It has something like 20 different sounds, and you can adjust each sound for the perfect 'blend', I usually pick 'hard rain' and mix it with thunder, ocean waves, seagulls, and campfire. It also has a timer so it doesn't run all night. I have discovered that a certain someone's snoring can actually drown out the app, even with ear buds. :neutral face:
Now I just need to make a headband that will hold my ear buds close to my ears, but not annoy the fuck out of me. (i also have that weird fear of hearing something when I wear ear buds with a combination of generally not liking wearing ear buds...I'll post my creation when I finish making it.)

What do you do when you've taken a pill, but it doesn't put you to sleep, but it still makes you stupid & slow & bumping into things & ď dizzy/groggy an hour and a half after consumption?I don't do drugs because i dislike being high but ambien seems not to care about that.

When I had ambient, my doctor said I had to be 'in bed' not walking around otherwise it wouldn't work. Have you tried drinking a warm cup of tea and getting into bed?

Ha! I wish these things worked for me!! My oldest sister lays her head on a pillow and she's OUT! I lie awake tossing and turning.. A fly farts and I wake up! ( I have super retard sensitive hearing! I can hear -15 dog whistles!) but I can't stand having ear plugs.. I do have to have a fan on.. I hate sleeping meds cause I feel like a zombie the whole next day. I used to take 1600 mg of Seroquel for sleep, but I'd still wake up, and feeling drunk no less, plus, developed Diabetes from it.. So no more Seroquel for me! Now I just have to find something that works to keep me from freaking out during the day.. I have horrid social anxiety on top of insomnia. So as soon as I find something that works.. I'll share it. Until then.. I just lie as still and quiet as I can, listen to my cat purr and wait for sleep. Good luck to us all!

^^ have you tried custom sleeper molds? They're made of softer material and might take a bit of getting used to. Most hearing clinics can make them for you.

As for just laying there waiting to sleep. Are you tired when you go to bed? Do you exercise? If not, maybe that'll make you sleepy. Also, reading might help.
