Brian, does something else take place? Do they bring you flowers or do they kidnap you and put you in a cage?
Well, sometimes they shoot your dog instead... The number of such incidences I've seen in the last several years is kind of disturbing.
It's not something that is increasing in occurrences over the years. It's increasing in media exposure. Much like shark attacks.
Well, that may certainly be true. Let me put it another way- The fact that it happens at all when dogs aren't actively lunging at anyone is disturbing period.
I gotta say it now, better loud than too late.

I agree in theory. But you also have to take into consideration that there are always 2 sides to every story. Some no doubt were completely fucked up, 100% undeserved shootings. But what about those cases of where the "victim" is completely lying and trying to play up the sympathy card? It's their word against the cop's, and the media loves a good defenseless shooting story...even if it's a lie.
Bright eyed kid: "Wow Typo Man, you're the best!"
Typo Man: "Thanks kidz, but remembir, stay in skool!"

Oh I don't believe any crap like that if there's no video. I've met a lot of people that get the cops called on them, and there can be all kinds of shenanigans coming out of their mouths. It's totally an emotional response, though, as someone with dogs in their family. I'll own up to that

Never said it was. I just said I don't call myself one in the political sense. I'm pretty "liberal" in a lot of other ways.
Right. You told us of how your a liberal with your positions then let us know your not one. Plus there are social and physical liberals. Many lean different ways depending which one. Hey welcome to the Train and get used to some flak if you continue to post. Some of our other non- liberal liberals could use the support.
There's like three of us, still can't drive me out! You guys will come around one day, I did.
I'm unsung and I'm an ex-democrat.
Do try to be open minded and have seen you sway a bit yourself.
I was wondering how this thread got 30 responses is such a short time....
Ha. Thought same thing.
Attacked our band and their views man. Can't have that. I kid.
Oh yeah it's fiscal conservative not physical. DUH. Can't even blame that on spell check.
Funny Osteo asked for conservative input and all the Hippies attacked. Fresh blood.
Thank goodness Unsung came to rescue.
I was thinking there might be more out there when I posted. Apparently me and unsung can just PM I don't know all who else.
I'd be fine with starting as fiscal conservative. Definitely Not a social conservative. Not sure where I fall on the gun thing either. That thread(s) is interesting...

id like to see a PJ thread on the Moving Train...many of the people who post here dont post elsewhere and we never connect on the one thing we have in common, THE GREATEST FUCKING BAND EVER. PERIOD. For instance, I have nowhere here to post my story about the effect of playing Getaway to scare away a hungry, cranky blackbear. Nowhere to debate the merits of Lightning Bolt with people who's opinions I value through the discourse here. Also nowhere to post that I am going to Europe for Milan, Trieste, and Vienna next week and my excitement is beyond containment. I would glady create such a thread and bring a breath of positivity (I need it as much as anyone, in life im smiles but on the forums im negative nancy) if it werent for my pathologic lack of an internet connection/smartphone.
As for going to Europe to see Pearl Jam, I wish I were. Amsterdam, Milan and Vienna would be awesome. Places I want to experience. So, to those who are going, safe travels, enjoy and rock out!

I've heard it said before and I generally agree: while the internet is awesome on a number of levels, it definitely allows people to be more callous or outright cruel than probably 95% of people would be in real life. I hardly get into online debates anymore for this reason, though I'm a fervent in-person debater. Back when I used to debate a lot online (mostly reddit but some other places), I always came away from the experience feeling totally misunderstood and thoroughly belittled. The combination of not having body/vocal cues for context and the anonymity that allows civil people to be total jerks is a mighty one, and these days I just don't see the point, most of the time. Unless I find a thread where people seem to be fairly respectful- then I'll jump on in.

You from the area or travelling? I had considered buying tickets to that one too and driving down, but my husband said two shows wasn't in the budget :(
You also never answered my original question. I know it can't be because you're scared of dog-piling.

That seems to be part of what stymies many discussions (not necessarily just here, or online) - I'm a fiscal (or...physical ) conservative, social liberal, hippie, progressive vegan, log-cabin Republican, etc...so many boxes and lines.
How about simple common sense and decency, and some of what Brian mentioned?
Even, maybe, compromise?
I'd hate to think anyone is so entrenched in "their party" or their tightly-held views that they can't see when there may be another way, or god forbid, a better way. Maybe some way to combine the best of both (or all) ideas.
As to the music (well, the lyrics and thoughts behind them), I don't let it rule me. As with some people, I can love parts of them even if I don't in their entirety.
PJ's music in particular has had such an impact on my life that I can look past the parts I don't agree with.
Well not if they make fun of you when you use the wrong word. >:)
Things get heated and sometimes personal but this place is much better than most. Many times we real ourselves in and realize............PJ FREAKIN ROCKS so that gun nut that shares your passion can't be all bad.

I live about 2 1/2 hours from there but I work out there quite often.
Your original question...
I wish they would stick to playing music and not talk about politics. I don't control the mic though. They should realize that not everyone agrees with them, and I did not care for the harm comment that was said about guns, however I used to be a Democrat and it never bothered me to hear the comments in the past. So when the show is on and the political talk starts and everyone cheers I'll be standing there quietly waiting for the next song.
I'm fairly socially liberal, I think govt should not be involved at any scale in marriage, let people smoke pot, I prefer the environment remain clean and available for the future, I don't like undeclared wars...etc.
But I am VERY pro-gun, pro controlled legal immigration, strongly against illegal immigration, all for cutting taxes, against the income tax, hate the Federal Reserve, believe the General Government should be limited to Art 1 Sec VIII of the Constitution and everything else left to the states, against cradle to the grave welfare, for temp help for people that fall on hard times, I believe in community, against the NSA spying without warrants, believe all federal gun laws are unconstitutional, would end the birthright amendment when the parents are not citizens, and I am for sound money, not this monopoly charade that is going on now.
unsung, if I were going to Moline I would definitely invite you out for some brew before.
Almost all of what you wrote is where I fall. Though I'm less certain about the gun stuff than I'd like to be. That all is going to take more research and "smoking on it."
As far as PJ being vocal about their stance- well, I used to be where they are, and the reason they're there is totally understandable to me. And I'm not entirely convinced I couldn't be wrong, and maybe a very limited government wouldn't pan out well in reality. When one hits disagreements, there's always humility.

Callen, we're all united by a very powerful force, and even those I vehemently disagree with on social or political issues are still part of the PJ family! Like a crazy uncle one has to endure at Christmas, but still part of the family

I like this thought very much, and agree...though sometimes other not-so-constructive reactions rise up in the process.
I appreciate how some here rise above after rising up. For me, it usually takes "smoking on it" - another phrase I like! - and in the literal sense too
I guess count me in as number 5. I have no problem with whatever stance any artist or entertainer takes. I appreciate their music and the feeling and emotion it provokes in me. Plus there are so many ways to interpret their lyrics that what it might mean to one person, means something differently to me. I can separate entertainment and my own thoughts. Sometimes is there a lyric or verse that comes around and makes me think? Yes. I think that's a good thing, and I wish that whichever side of the spectrum you are on happened more, hearing something and not just dismissing it because you disagree. But Is a lyric or verse going to change my ideals because it comes from a band I like? Nope.
This thread really has gone around the block a few times in the last 14 hours!
I really thought it would be l-o-c-k-e-d by now because I remember quite a while ago when I started a thread about something related to a certain b-a-n-d and connecting them up with something p-o-l-i-t-i-c-a-l and the thing got l-o-c-k-e-d. Might have had something to do with me being a newbee back then. :-)
But look- it morphed to a drinking mead thread! VOILA! Saved by beer and mead!
Mmmm- a little flat bread, hummis, mead... ah oh, were getting into near-east political zone. WARNINGWARNINGDANGERDANGER! :-))
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Brianlux, I was with you until you brought up hummus. Dang, I've tried it so many times but it just doesn't do it for me! My girlfriend loves it, but I could name like ten different dips that are better! Guess now we have to start the which dip is better thread... Friends will be lost, relationships broken up, but queso will stand as the champion

Maybe ex-democrat would be the most accurate way to describe myself as well. Though, that's an AWFULLY wide category. Make that 4 people now
