I asked what your point was in relation to gun violence?
There isn't one good answer as to how to stop gun violence. I wasn't really making a point about gun violence. I was just pointing out how it went down in Dixon Illinois 2 days ago where nobody got killed & nobody talked about it.
Ive said it hundreds of times. Parenting. We didnt have this shit when I was a kid because your parents wouldnt allow it. These days too many kids are born without parents that keep up with them. Social media, of course, is also a big difference.
Parents have always been neglectful and abusive and blah blah blah. That's not an explanation that's a blame shift that people with grown kids are comfortable slinging because it conveniently absolves them of any blame.
No. Its a trait that my parents taught me and I taught my now adult kids. You are responsible for your own actions. My job is to make sure you know right from wrong.
And my response is, so what? Just like everyone else you went to school with dozens of kids that had parents that didn't do the same for them, parents that dropped the ball in every way. How many of them shot up a school? It's really not possible that it is so simple. The kids doing these things know what they are doing is wrong, they know right from wrong and they know they won't get away with it, they know they will be responsible for their actions. They still do it. Not so simple.
Never had or remember a shooting at school..So you are saying its amount of guns and access?
yes, not the full reason, but yes yes yes amount and access plays a huge role

Also, right on cue that you came on here to divert away from a current problem of gun violence by asking why a cop who stopped a shooter didn't run in the new cycle for days. Seems pretty easy to understand. One incident is over and done with besides delving in to the why, while the other is an on-going issue affecting thousands of lives every time it occurs.

No, because that's something that was always around too, hell there would literally be dozens of shotguns on racks in trucks parked at my school.
I think that shit like this just moves forward uncontrollably. There are so many factors that contribute to violent tendancies and I just think that violent tendancies are expressed in "flavor of the day" style cycles. There are other violent behaviours that have decreased steadily and significantly even as shootings of this type have been on the rise.

It was talked about a lot in the media, but less then now for obvious reasons.

Almost all of the talking heads are talking about social media, bullying, internet connectivity to other “crazy” people with similar thoughts that can motivate and support, etc. Not one talking head is discussing easy access and availability of firearms as part of the problem. Disgusting.
If the perp got the firearms from their parents or another “responsible” firearm owner, they should be locked up for at least 10 years. How else do you teach “responsibility?”

I’m playing devils advocate here, but what if the perp got the firearm illegally? So many firearms are obtained this way. Not all of these guns are taken from or provided by parents or legal gun owners.
And I think easy access and availability has been around long before this trend of mass shootings at schools. That is not to say the easy access needs to be fixed regardless, but this shooting up schools mentality seems to be rooted elsewhere to me (at least partially).

To your first point, fully fund ATF efforts to crack down on straw purchasers and god forbid, limit number of guns sold in a certain time period. After all, we all know that every gun begins as a “legal” one (please spare me the 3D printed, home hobbyist mass produced illegal gun rhetoric).
Playing angels advocate, what if the firearm was legally purchased and possessed?
To your second point, no. Why then the hundreds of gun bills introduced and enacted making it far easier to own, possess and exhibit firearms in the past ten years? Restrictions have been vastly eased, as well as enforcement of existing and your seeing the result.
Parenting is definitely part of the equation, but it's not quite so simple as pointing fingers and nodding in agreement.
Its rare when one parent can stay at home and be a parent these days. The bills demand two working parents from the overwhelming majority of households. Parenting occurs after the work day, after cooking dinner, after cleaning up after dinner, and before bedtime. Holidays are far and few between (if at all) for many families.
It's not enough parenting and it is the modern day reality. Kids are institutionalized before they can even string together sentences.
And let’s not forget the gun industry marketing and mass production and flooding the market so as to make them relatively inexpensive to purchase whereas any 18 year old working fast food can afford one. In the town I grew up in, there wasn’t one gun store. While I was in high school, one opened up on Main Street. Today there are three, including a gun range with a feature of walking a course and not knowing where and at what angle the clay pigeons come from. Also, fear is used in advertising in the local paper for said gun stores. The biggest threats in this town are drunk drivers and larceny from property, mostly when the home is unoccupied. Fear sells and drives sales, self perpetuating and the same as the defense industry.
How can parents feel comfortable sending their kids to school these days is beyond me hell my two are in college and i'm anxious everyday they are in school .. This is an epidemic just like the opiods and this government and the progun crowd won't ever give up any of the precious 2nd ammendment rights or any restrictions on weapons this country is fucked ! I'm sick of debating this subject this country is not the best country in the world anymore far from it !

It all roots from the industry and the profit motive. As I wrote earlier, the fund the NRA and it all blossoms from there. You hit it perfectly.

Legitimate question: What has Texas done regarding anything to prevent what happened today between the church shooting that killed 26 and today? Other than thoughts and prayers?
Governor Abbott advocating for doing something that Obama did 6 years ago after Newtown, pulling together a panel of parents, educators, mental health experts, law enforcement, government and 2A advocates. No mention of the NRA, whom Obama invited and I believe participated. Just imagine.

10 dead in school shooting, official says
From CNN's Jessica Schneider
A law enforcement official says 10 people are dead in the Texas high school shooting; nine of those killed are students and one a teacher.
Two law enforcement officers are among those injured, the official says.
As to the explosive devices at the school, the official says pipe bombs and pressure cookers were found at the scene.
