Now I'm confused Cops can be good guys too? I thought all Cops were on the take and out to get you.
I know you're being sarcastic (I think, lol), but I'm just curious... Besides those who are totally justified in feeling this way (i.e. black Americans in certain neighborhoods/cities, etc), does anyone literally believe that? I know some right wingers want us to think so, but does anyone really? I've never met anyone who does.

I don't know if they truly believe it, but you can scroll through the police abuse thread and find many comments that hit pretty close to that. It is easy to find people who label cops pretty much the same way gun owners get labeled on this thread. They stereotype cops as racist power-hungry guys with a small penis. It is easy to find users making same stereotypes of gun users here. You probably don't even have to go back a full page to find a reference to a small penis and a redneck. Now if they truly believe it or not I don't know. But I don't think it is far fetched to believe there are some out there who think there is an abnormally large number of really bad cops.

I follow that thread and I've never found that anyone thinks all cops are bad. I've seen plenty of people who believe that's what they're saying, but I've never found it was actually a justified accusation.

Okay hang on a second. Time-out!
Are you saying gun owners actually have big dorks? And are not rednecks?
Whaaat... the... ? Well wtf do they have guns for then?

My take is different. There have been more than one comment about cops just being power hungry and over-compensating for other things. Liking them to a kid who got picked on in school and wants a position of power. Maybe not that all cops are bad, but find racism in cases where there wasn't any. There are several who consistently make remarks like "if he was white he'd still be alive" when referring to a police shootout. There have been no doubt some cases of bad police work, but a cop can't return fire on a black person without someone calling him racist and trigger happy. Like I said, pretty much what goes on in this thread I've seen applied to the cop thread too. Maybe no one has said gun owners are bad, but it is pretty clear many people think very low of anyone who owns a gun.
I saw in Australia they had their worst mass shooting in 26 years recently. 7 dead. Not a hundred, not dozens, not even double digits, not an accumulation of thousands within the last 3 months. Seven. And that's the worst in over a quarter century. I wonder why?
Don't get me wrong, that's still 7 too many... but compared to the US... do we even bother to report on a shooting if "only" 7 people die?

And all in the same family, too, so seems to be more of a domestic assault situation even though it more than qualifies as a mass killing. We occasionally hear about those, the last one being that one in the church, but mostly when they involve other people or there is something else newsworthy about them. Seven dead on its own doesn’t move the needle, unfortunately.
my small self... like a book amongst the many on a shelf

Wow, I hadn't heard any of the details. But I'd say that changes the scope even further. This wasn't just some deranged lunatic shooting up a public place and 7 random people died, these were known (most likely pre-meditated) targets.
I don’t care what political affiliation they have. Just that “responsible” gun owners typically are until they’re not. And that there’s way too many of them.

Seems the Vegas shooter had an issue with FEMA camps. Know anyone who’s ever stayed in one? Maybe got rounded up in the middle of the night? I bet Alex Jones does.
Texas is a big state. Not all schools have an armed response.
It will be interesting to see what happened in this instance and if they are already armed. I'm sure that will become a main focus after the fact either way.
