Thats what I'm thinking. Much as I'd love a shiny new pc... I can get a shit one in work and then have my three weeks of fantasticness in June. I'll still be gonig no matter what but I don't want to have to worry too much about what I can afford... tis extra stress I don't need!

did the hard drive fail or did it take anything else out with it ? 'cos you can pick up a new disc for well under 100 quid...

but you would have to reinstall everything on the new one and that's a pain... :(
Oh yeah? Well, I've had about enough of morons and halfwits, dolts, dunces, dullards and dumbbells - and you chowderhead yokel, you blithering hayseed, you - you've had enough of me?

I don't know if anything else is gone. The laptop is completely dead, won't turn on or nothing. I know a new hd is pretty cheap - can get a 60gig for €50 but I don't know if that'll solve the problem!

Thank god for my external drive that has all my music, movies and photos otherwise I'd be in hospital right now!

well don't flame me for asking this but... is the fuse in the plug OK ? if there's a light on the power supply does it come on when it's plugged in ? if the thing seems totally dead then it seems likely that either it's not the hard drive that's gone or else that and something else have been fried... if it was just the disc then I'd expect something to appear on the screen before it barfed out saying the disc was dead.

could be worth taking it along to PC World or somewhere like that and get them to try and diagnose what's up...

Nah its definitely a dead hd! On Mon night it woke me up cos it was clicking and I had a blue screen of death. Restarted it, and got the clicking again but it went away, then yesterday afternoon the clicking started again. Restarted and got the 'hard drive cannot be found' error. Took out hd, tried starting it but nothing happened, then put the drive back in and no luck at all... it clicks for about 2 seconds then dies but nothing comes up on the screen which I find a little strange myself. Maybe when I dismantled it I did something else but I can't see what.

Don't want to spend money on a dead paperweight if it won't work - s'pose I wanna know that it'll definitely work before I go bringing it to people to fix!

yep, sounds like a dead disc alright!
oh well, the only way to test if it's just the disc is get another one and plug that in i guess... which ain't too helpful. gawd knows how much a PC World would charge you to do that...

Sadly I won't be able to come. Have to pay..
    a) various pitters for tickets
    b) my dentist £300
    c) pay back £500 of student loan
    d) get out of the overdraft

But I guarantee I'll make up for it on the 17th of June. And probably (after the show) on the 18th too.

Yes was pretty good. Although I went out for a smoke and missed whatever it was Susan found in the envelope. But the pervert looks like quite an intereting character. I loved the first series, thought the second was shite, but this one is winning back my faith ;)
