I am arranging my travel plans. Coming from Italy. I am thinking about spending two nights in Nashville (sun and mon) and two nights in Memphis (tue and wed). Would it be fine? Suggestions from locals are very welcome. I regret to miss the Grand Ole Opry since I cannot be in Nashville on Friday and Sunday, but it seems to be rather commercial, doesn't it?
I plan to have the writers' night at the Bluebird on Sunday and the Time Jumpers at the 3rd & Lindsley on Monday in Nashville: is it a good choice?

Yeah, those are good bets. 3rd and Lindsley is a nice little place. For the BlueBird, make sure and get there somewhat early as it's first come first served on seating (for the free show that usually starts around 6pm but you can also call for reservations for some shows. usually the late show will have a cover, but not always). Plus, you never know who will show up. Dave Grohl showed up and played an hour long acoustic set there 2 weeks ago. If you're into records, hit up Third Man Records (Jack White's store) and Grimey's. and like someone else pointed out, try and do the Ryman tour and if it's nice outside, a walk around Centennial Park
If you are into concert posters Hatch Show Print has a little place by The Omni across from convention center if you are downtown. I haven't been inside even though it's right by my parking spot for hockey. It looks like one of those things that might be fun to check out if you happen to be walking by but not cool enough to go out of you way to see. Not to jinx it but the weather should be awesome that time of year.
    Many thanks
How is Chattanooga? It would be good spend one day there?

I like Chattanooga but that is a long way from Memphis, but only a couple hours or so from Nashville. People are always interested in the Jack Daniels Distillery but you can't taste or drink there because it is a dry county. Chattanooga is not dry by the way - you can drink there. Ruby Falls is touristy but still really cool. The Kentucky Bourbon Trail is fun (or so I'm told - we haven't been) but it is around a 3 hour drive to Lexington area where the distilleries are located. There is some good hiking around Chattanooga and October would be a good time to do that as far as weather.

FYI, Jack Daniel's has a tasting tour now. Still can't drink anywhere else in the county but at least you can sample, and buy, at the distillery.

There is a really good vibe to this thread...this is going to be a really great show if it is any indication of the type of crowd and atmosphere...it just makes sense with the music history and everything:)

I'm also glad that Fedex Forum gets some good ratings for acoustics.

That's right. Jack Daniels finally made Moore County get their heads out of their asses in that one. You can only buy it there in the county but its a really cool little community. Its only about 20 minutes from where I work and I love driving around that area. Should be beautiful in the fall.

This will be an anniversary of sorts for me. I saw PJ for the very first time in 2000 in Memphis at the Pyramid. I could not have imagined that in 2014 I would return to Memphis for my 31st show (assuming and hoping that I get to Cincy, Stl, Tulsa, and Lincoln as planned).

Need to help the team with potential locations for the Wishlist Pre-party . . . Also be thinking of local charities that could be supported. Had some major tornadoes come through Tenn/N Mississippi a few weeks back. might be a worthy cause.

If I might make a suggestion: There is no better cause in the world than the magnificent work that they do for children at St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis.

Definitely check out The Forrest Spence Fund at http://www.forrestspencefund.org/
Great organization that took something most parents could not imagine and turned it into a positive legacy to help other families and kids at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. My son had to have heart surgery last fall, and they were incredibly kind and supportive to my family.

There is a pretty big bar in the main lobby, but The Flying Saucer is across the street with 70+ on tap, not to mention Beale.

70 sounds good to me ! Most of my Memphis drinking time has been spent on Beale. Wouldn't mind checking a few other places out elsewhere in the city.

I always liked the Flying Saucer, but then it became a cigar bar or something. Is it back to a regular bar now?

There is no smoking in the bar anymore. I think that some bars still can allow it, but I can't remember. The Saucer has an area that opens up to the street, so smoking might be allowed there, but not in the enclosed part. 70 on tap, not to mention the number of bottles they have too.

Also, if you are a runner, check out the Wolf River Trails, Shelby Farms, Shelby Forest, etc. Lots of good natural trail running in town. Paved greenline as well.
