Won GA as well as my only lotto entry. First time seeing them in Tennessee! I will be driving from Va Beach and picking up my brother in Knoxville. Booked a room at the Courtyard last week. This will be my 12th show and I only hope it lives up to my last show -Charolttesville 13-. See you on Beale!

Is this the third show only for Memphis? I looked up 8-15-2000 and 3-24-94 but were there any others? Hard to imagine such a dry spell. Should be great. I can't wait!

Ok, so I'm a little leery of straying too far while in Memphis, based on what I've heard. I'll be staying at the Hampton Inn right down the road from the venue, and probably hanging out on Beale St most of the 2 days we are there.

What are the must-do things in that area, and what is the closest legit BBQ joint?

I was fortunate enough to win reserved tics! Coming down from N IN. Staying a few extra days to partake of some blues and BBQ. Potentially have a extra tic...

Can't wait! See you all there. Who wants to get together in a group and go to Graceland?!

Count me in! I'm flying in from SoCal, definitely going to do the full Graceland tour and Sun Studios if there's time. I'll be coming alone so I'm hoping any meet up info will be posted here.

I'd be interested in joining up with a group meet. Coming from N IN. Already reserved a room at Vista (hope it is an ok place, I liked the location).

I do know that a lot of people are going to be hitting up Graceland.

I'm in with GA. Coming over from Birmingham and planning to stay a few days. I've seen PJ 10+ times but never GA. Hoping for a great show!

Memphis isn't as bad as people like to act. Like any city just pay attention and stay out of areas that look unsafe. It's nowhere near as cool as Nashville but there isn't anything we can do about that now.

As for the legit BBQ, every person you ask will give you a different answer. I never eat ribs and stuff out because I cooked ribs for my job for about 6-7 years at a Corky's and my buddy won the Jack Daniels WC once so if I want bbq I just do it myself or have him do it.

The closest hotels seem rather expensive. Would it be pretty safe to get there by trolley or walking from near Court Square? Looks to be less than a mile north and half the price of closer hotels.

It has been a few years since we have stayed in Memphis, but we usually stay North of Beale St. and take the trolley or walk. I got a reservation at the Comfort Inn downtown. We have stayed there often (although not in the last few years) and it was always clean and well run. They have a parking garage and I see they now charge $10 per night. I think it used to be free. This hotel is also right across from Mud Island access which makes it nice. Never had a problem in downtown Memphis except for the people harassing you to buy CDs and stuff. But the last couple times we were there the police had cracked down and we didn't have anyone accost us to buy something or give them money.

I do my own Q too...but I still want to hit up a few of the big names!

I just booked the Sleep Inn next door, I think. They both had good reviews but the Sleep Inn was a couple dollars cheaper. Do you know if one is better than the other really?

We have stayed at the Sleep Inn a couple of times and it was fine. It is a newer hotel than the Comfort Inn. The Comfort Inn is old but like I said clean and good service (at least a few years ago when we stayed there annually). I remember the Sleep Inn rooms being small which probably wouldn't matter for concert purposes. We were there for a triathlon and had bikes and gear and all sorts of stuff.

OK, cool. Thanks Riverrunner. I'm hoping to leave Saturday and hit a football game in MS, then maybe stay at a Tunica casino Saturday night. Then go to Memphis Sunday for a few nights. I think it will be a fun trip.

I personally love Memphis. And yes it has a bad rep - deservedly so I guess, but we have never had a problem. I'm a runner (female) and have ran by myself down on the river front park, on the streets around Beale Street, and behind the bluff houses (the really nice homes that sit on the bluff south of Beale - overlooking the river. Cybil Shepherd has a house there) and have never had a problem.
