I don't know how that wouldn't be enough. I get that Castro is having a terrible year, but god damn those two have some potential. Maybe another B level prospect.

Hell of an effort by Cole. crazy way to go out it it ends up being his last start here. My money is still on the Dodgers being his destination.
and watching Herrera and Brown catching fly balls is always interesting. Herrera at least has an excuse as he hasn't played outfield before this year. Brown catches everything almost backhanded. it's strange.
Read today from rosenthal that there is no market for pitchers. Everyone wants bats and there are only pitchers on the market. Gonna be funny when Ruben wants way too much and Hamels stays

check out HBO's Real Sports this month. they have a story on 'everyone gets a trophy generation'. I remember making a comment about everyone getting a trophy these days during the celebration of the usa 1 win world cup team and some of you guys not knowing about it or giving me grief about. interesting story.

so don't check it out. it's a good story and pretty much shows you i was spot on with my comments last year about what giving every kid a trophy does.
but hey if you want to go back into your prediction for 12 years down the line after last weeks debacle we can do that as well.

I will check it out, but it has nothing to do with the world cup team. I would also argue there has to be some middle ground between every kid getting a trophy and the type of stuff that is discussed in the NY Times article from Sunday about helicopter parents pushing kids to win/succeed in everything and colleges now having a major suicide problem.
The Gold Cup was a disaster. I was very surprised not to see some of the younger players not getting more time, but that doesn't have a ton to do with what is going to happen a decade from now. Now if they lose this confederation's cup play in game, all bets are off. I don't think Klinsman loses his job and he will be coaching in Russia, but there is a much bigger impact on results in Russia than there has been.

The Washington Nationals get a minor bullpen boost with the acquisition of Philadelphia Phillies right-hander Jonathan Papelbon -- who gets points for being a "proven closer" but is actually just a competent above-average reliever -- at the cost of a solid starting pitching prospect who's close to the majors but is also a guy without huge upside.
Papelbon has remade himself even as his fastball has lost almost 4 mph since his peak years in Boston. He's working up in the zone with the four-seamer and down with the splitter, and also incorporating a slider to the greatest extent of his career. The splitter has been less effective this year against lefties, although it's too small a sample to condemn him to right-handed specialist duty; it's just something to be wary of.
He's a modest upgrade to the Nats' late-game relief corps, not specifically over Drew Storen but over whatever right-handed reliever gets bounced from the roster. As with the Mets' acquisition of Tyler Clippard on Monday, this deal is probably worth something on the order of just three or four runs saved.
Papelbon negotiated a deal with the Nats in which the team picked up his vesting option for 2016 at an amount below the option's $13 million, which avoids a messy situation if he weren't closing for the Nats and couldn't get the 14 games finished he needed for the option to vest. His market value would probably be in the $7-8 million per year range due to his experience as a closer, so if the Nats are paying something at the lower end of that range, I'd call the added year an asset.
The Phillies do well in this deal, landing right-handed starting pitching prospect Nick Pivetta, who has struggled since a promotion to Double-A earlier this month but projects as a potential back-end starter. I saw him pitch in Single-A Wilmington before his promotion, where he was throwing heat between 90-95 mph that was usually sitting between 92-94, without life but with very good deception. His curveball has good angle but he appeared to be babying the pitch slightly when I saw him, rather than finishing it hard for maximum rotation. He rotates his hips late, taking a short stride with a stiff landing that costs him some arm speed, a suboptimal delivery for a starter.
At worst, Pivetta is a very good two-pitch reliever with plus control, but he has the feel and stamina to work as a starting pitcher, and the Phillies should continue with him in that role, perhaps lengthening his stride just a little bit to see if the breaking ball improves.
Yeah i'm kinda shocked by this. Although unfortunately I still think they have the worst record.

Phillies get value sending Papelbon to Nationals
Keith Law, ESPN Insider
