Happy New Years, ya fuckers. Cheers

what a weird NYD. Had planned on doing something huge. Saturday, covid over, possibly our last NYD in this neighborhood, but nooooo, thanks covid (and rain).

Instead I down a whiskey cappuccino at 3PM with only my family…still very hungover, per usual

I think my hangover is mostly gone.  Sochu.  Southbound Greyhounds.  Martinis.
Far too much.  Ran this morning  and thought I was gonna puke.
Didn't even get to lay on the couch and watch the drunken idiot parade.  They moved it to tomorrow, with the rain.

Do you guys make your kids listen to them? I always play Beach Boys for my nephews when I'm driving them around in my car and they fucking love them some Beach Boys now. Always request them instead the stupid Disney shit my wife puts on. 6 and 4 yrs old.

I have always found it cute that people in saaay, Ohio are still way more concerned about 9/11 than the folks who live in the East Village.

But yeah, a heartbreaking day.  Section 8 just doesn't have the same ring to it, huh?

Edit: Ahhh...not sure if we're talking about the same things...

Wait, whazzahuh? Are you talking about the fire, what about section 8?

Talking about the anniversary of, ya know, the biggest thing to happen in this country in years. Insurrection and all.

Disgusting terrorist attack. And easily half the country either denies it or just doesn't care anymore.

On a side note, NY Times is officially buying the Athletic....sooooo, does that mean I can drop one?

Also, can I get a Times, Times Cooking and Athletic bundle?!?!  That would be ideal.

Was reading there's a chance (since Joe's usually calculated with his rare appearances) that he went in so hard with the language in his speech because the evidence that's going to come out is rock solid. Of course, I don't hold my breath though.

I gotta think The Times buyout was what the Athletic startup guy was hoping for all along. Yeah, I had to cancel the Times Cooking recipes sub. Just wasn't worth it to get dinged every month/week? and only utilize it a couple times a month at best.

For sure. As been said above, the fucking Capitol was ransacked and people stopped giving a shit about that as well.

The tragedy of that whole thing with the fire is the tragedy of the haves and have nots for sure.

Re: the fire - don't know if this will be welcome commentary but why is it always someone else's fault that ALL SIX smoke detectors were not functioning. Aren't the adults in the house supposed to be responsible for that? Mine beep and drive me insane until a put in a new 9-volt battery. Anyway, such an awful tragedy.

Yeah I would say more 1/6 evidence is coming out and they are going to push through the VRA. To keep a local focus (hi moderators!), PA has done decently so far in legislative redistricting. If people step up, volunteer, vote, the State House is up for grabs this year.

Yeah not a big fan of the smoke detector comments I've seen in general, it borders on victim blaming. Which I don't think is really helpful and ignores the larger issues.

Bigger forest for the trees imo - drop the hammer on PHA by changing how we incriminate (no more just suing the city, which is just like suing yourself; hold individuals responsible ala the same for the cops), more public-private partnerships, increase subsidies/access/resources, amp up L&I, and my personal favorite go nuclear on all zoning codes.
  • Johnny AbruzzoJohnny Abruzzo Philly Posts: 11,673
I mean, people dying from COVID are receiving "Herman Cain Awards" - victim blaming is certainly fashionable nowadays.

Someone at least checked a box that they changed the batteries in the smoke detectors in May 2021 - guess we need to get more information.

Yeah, I mean, there is likely a lot of victim blaming that can be had here between the number of people living there and the smoke detectors, but it won't accomplish anything in terms of why there were 18 people living in a 4 bedroom public housing apartment.  Perhaps the fact that 18 people had to cram into this, or likely be homeless, should be the bigger conversation.  And the kids certainly didn't do anything to warrant any of that.

    Just horrendous...

    This right here.

So I try to keep this off of here, but in my indoctrination of becoming a full-throated LIBERAL COMMIE...I'd just like to say the reason for a lot of this bullshit (across the country) is due to over-zealous zoning codes and terrible NIMBYism.

OK, off my soapbox (until I'm not).
