Friday random shit of the day when work is slow and you've read all of the internet:

Totally forgot about this website. - http://www.fivehorizons.com/

This was the go-to, and http://www.theskyiscrape.com/ (along with the RM forum), probably was the last time I super pumped for an album and waited with baited breath was for 'Riot Act'. Then you get old. Que sera sera.
Five Horizons. Man, that takes me back. I used to look at that site on a daily basis back in college. Reviews/setlists of every show. So much quality info. Learned so much about this band from that website. Good stuff.

Giventopost.com was short lived but a good board too about 10 years ago-ish

giventopost was a shit show....as I remember, you and ziggystar were trying to outsexualtension each other....I did not like that chick.
Nah I think you're confusing me with someone else
That place was a lot of fun though.

    pretty sure it was you.

you’re lucky I’m not tech savvy enough to dig up your old skeletons.

5 possible landing spots for Manny Machado

LOS ANGELES CA - OCTOBER 28 Manny Machado 8 of the Los Angeles Dodgers reacts after striking out in the fourth inning during Game 5 of the 2018 World Series against the Boston Red Sox at Dodger Stadium on Sunday October 28 2018 in Los Angeles California

Manny Machado could be on the verge of signing the most lucrative contract in baseball history.

The 26-year-old shortstop/third baseman starred for seven seasons in Baltimore before completing 2018 in Los Angeles, where he appeared in his first World Series.

Since his 2012 debut, the four-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner positioned himself among baseball's elite with 175 home runs, 211 doubles, and 513 RBIs while posting an .822 OPS.

Despite his antics during the postseason - which included questionable slides, sign stealing, dust-ups with opposing players, and apparent crotch shakes - multiple teams will vie for his services.

Here are five possible landing spots for Machado.

    Philadelphia Phillies (Odds +150)

After an encouraging season, the Phillies are in a good position to spend in free agency - they're also expected to be major players for Bryce Harper and Patrick Corbin - and Machado looks like a perfect fit for their team.

This wouldn't be their first time showing interest in the infielder either. Before Machado landed in Los Angeles, Philly was listed as his most likely trade destination, and reportedly offered Baltimore its top pitching prospect.

The Phillies still need a difference-maker on the left side of the infield, and they have a lot of money to work with (their payroll is at $68.9 million before arbitration).

The NL East lacks a clear-cut best team, but acquiring Machado would make the Phillies front-runners.

    New York Yankees (Odds +300)

    Chicago White Sox (Odds N/A)

    St. Louis Cardinals (Odds N/A)

    Miami Marlins (Odds +800)

Well it was a down year for him, yeah, but awful? 249 avg, 389 obp, 496 slg, 889 ops, 34 hrs, and he led the league in walks. Other than average, those are career numbers for most of the league.

He's only 26 and should be a top 5-ish player in the game for most of the next decade. I'd do this in a heart beat.

Yeah, "awful" is more than a bit of a stretch. Trying not to get my hopes up. I'm going to be the first in line to go from talking soooo much shit on this dude for being a huge douche to instantly falling in love.
  • Yeah you're right, "awful" for him but certainly an outlier type of season. Hey, maybe he won't be as expensive to sign because of his down year.

i don't think he's a top 5-ish player.  i'd still sign him but let's not put him in that category.

The thing with Harper is, players like that don't often just hit the market.  Who was the last player in either of these guys class to be a free agent? Cano?  He has wasn't 26 either

Always nice when it just costs money to get a player.  Aren't you glad the Phillies didn't trade their best pitching prospect for Manny mid-season given how everything played out?  Then have to try to re-sign him

I think I read it's only like the 4th time a player at that age has hit the market?

Absolutely. Though, hindsight of course makes me wish they did something more before the deadline, especially knowing how little the Cubs gave up for Hamels.

Not surprised.  Not many players have come up at 20 in the free agent era.

Yeah, I hear you.  You're know what I'm saying though.

Yeah - don't know if anyone was talking about it in the MLB thread, but I enjoyed this article a lot: https://theathletic.com/638837/2018/11/07/boras-on-free-agency-his-company-and-the-ethics-of-an-agent-becoming-mets-gm/

I actually think I like Scott Boras. Dude's not wrong - MLB teams revenue has doubled in a decade and a player's salaries haven't followed with it. So, yeah, I'd say Harper should be getting like $600M.
