ha, I don't even know who this is. Though I am dying to get to a game...
That's an all star center fielder, my friend.....or, should be at least.

Ah, that Herrera dude (and I see it in the picture link now). Numbers are wild.
    Helluva rule 5 pick.
Ahhh, I think I knew he was that. Guess he is one that will stick. How do the Phillies get so lucky with Rule 5 guys?

That might deserve waiting till Detroit plays Philly again in 4 years with a non-sucker punch in the face.

Ha, agreed. Other than the draft, this team isn't worth talking about.

We should start a pool and guess howard's average at the end of year. Or when he hopefully gets released. That would make this season fun

I def think it will be less than 190. I don't think there is much chance of him raising his average. I'm going with .138.

Also, this is pretty damn accurate

Really tired of beating this dead horse. Whatever happens with Howard, just let it happen. The bitching and moaning is wasted energy. Go see him him one last time and give him some applause.

I'm starting believe, due to how bad the division is, that they may just be in this all season. So...that'd be cool.

it's futile. some people will never acknowledge how great he once was.

The way I look at is any success they have this year while rebuilding is a bonus. Been fun so far.

I don't think that's the case. Nobody's forgetting that run he had from 2005 through 2010 or the fact that that was (with maybe the exception of the late 70's-early 80's) the most successful run in the franchise's history. But man, it's been tough sledding the past five years. But as we all know, he's not to blame, Amaro is. If some moron walked up to me and said "Hey, would like $125 million?" I'd say "Well sure I do!"

Of course, I also realized I didn't edit my post. I meant to say that may just be in this all season.

Baseball's such a regional sport - if your team's not competitive then it takes 75% of the interest out of the sport.

no way I'm cheering a guy who has been overweight and has underperformed ever since the ink dried on his contract.

It's not really him I have a problem with. He's sucked since 2009. The Phillies management is the problem...he should have been the first one to go when they finally started this rebuild

This guy is a hacker...Eflin getting a lot of positive buzz though, which is good to hear.

Nick Williams 2016 Walk Watch: Zero walks (in five games) since last week’s list, leaving his total at seven on the season in 160 plate appearances, and moving his walk rate to a less-than-sterling 4.3 percent rate (against 38 strikeouts).

Williams’ OBP has crept down to .290 on the year as the 22-year old adjusts to Triple-A pitching, and Williams has only stolen six bases in 60 games since joining his new organization.

he had a peak of 3-4 good years. Only one season with a WAR of 4+. He's going to go down as the most overrated phillie ever, and one of the most overrated in MLB history.

This article is dead-on. There really is no room for sentimental value. Better players than Howard have been sent packing.

    http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/70964/its-time-for-the-phillies-to-release-ryan-howard

"Howard is killing them, though. He's gone from bad to unplayable, hitting .156/.226/.369. He went 0-for-4 on Monday with two strikeouts. With the game tied 4-4 in the seventh and a runner on second, the Tigers intentionally walked Maikel Franco to pitch to Howard. Justin Wilson struck out Howard on three fastballs, all swinging. He's 4-for-48 in May and hasn't hit a single since April. Fans are saying enough is enough. Local columnists are calling for something to be done. For some reason, manager Pete Mackanin has hit Howard cleanup in 30 of the team's 45 games.

That's on Mackanin, but Howard shouldn't even be on the roster. There's no room for sentiment in the majors, where it's all about winning (unless you're tanking). New general manager Matt Klentak and team president Andy MacPhail might have inherited Howard, but they need to man up and make the obvious move: Give Howard his unconditional release. If you want to give him a chance to save face and retire -- as Ken Griffey Jr. did when he walked away early in 2010 while hitting .184 -- sure, give Howard the opportunity. If Howard doesn't want to give up what's left of his $25 million salary (plus a $10 million buyout for 2017), give him a handshake and his walking papers.

Because the Phillies don't owe him anything -- not after paying him $125 million."
