I hope they play Israel but let's be honest...playing in Israel these days requires courage. Eddie and the band are friends with and big fans of Roger Waters. If Pearl Jam chooses to play there they will be doing so in opposition to Roger Waters' boycott Israel movement. While I am not sure what Pearl Jam's politics are on this issue I am not convinced they are ready to jump in the middle of it and make opponents out of artists they respect.

I can make a pretty good guess about Pearl Jam's politics. I don't see them playing there.
  • mmmh.

Yet this coming summer Soundgarden , Neil Young, Pixies and more are going to perform in Tel-Aviv.

Don't they respect Chris Cornell who have been performing here already three times ?
Don't they respect Neil Young who also performed here before? BTW, he was here as part of Mirror Ball tour with Mike,Jeff,Stone and Jack....

That is exactly why playing in Israel requires courage. I hope the band ignores the likes of CM189191 but I'm just not sure that they are up to it.

They shouldn't boycott shit.Play Isreal and play for the fans.If you don't like the politics,Dont mention them.Music transcends all that nonsense. You will attract many faiths and diverse backgrounds in Isreal.
Like someone else said Soundgarden, Neil young are playing.(Cornell is 1/2 Jewish so I'm sure he Dosent have much issue as one side of his family has ties)
I hate that some fans try To turn everything into a social statement.STFU and lets rock !!!!

What is it exactly about playing Israel that would be courageous?

More than half the world things the country shouldn't exist?
  • Pearl Jam should not play Israel while Israel murders innocent people.

At least we have some semblance of a 'plan' to exit Iraq, Afghanistan and provide them with an opportunity to rule themselves.

    What is your plan?

Thanks for your input Tribeintobreath but I think Pearl Jam should play where it wants when it wants.

    And people elect governments....
  • Israel? Wtf are you all talking about. Jesus. And there'll be another moon landing soon too.
I'm like an opening band for your mom.
  • Don't forget that the group (minus Eddie) played here with Neil Young few years ago. Neil Young is coming back now.. Chris Cornell was here twice and now coming back with soundgarden. So while Roger Waters spreads his hate speech towards Israel there are plenty of musicians who come and play here. I hope the group gets to hear other sides and stories from Israel and artists who have been here.

    If there's a side to the story that isn't being heard, I don't think it's Israel's.

What part of Roger Waters' boycott constitutes "hate speech"? That's a pretty strong accusation to be throwing from Israel's glass house.

Just because other musicians choose to play there, doesn't mean Pearl Jam should. If we use that logic, then I would argue that PJ should join the other 93 authors, film-makers, musicians and performers that have chosen to boycott Israel.

maybe someone needs to create a 'PJ please don't play in Israel' Facebook page and see how many votes it gets?

Was playing in South Africa during apartheid courageous? Nope, same thing with playing in Israel now, and history will not be kind towards the supporters of that racist state.

Shut up and sing, brilliant.....Ed is a friend of Natalie maines, I wonder how he feels about that approach to music?
If you don't like the politics don't mention them? How about play there AND mention them? In solidarity with Palestine, from the stage in tel aviv? THAT would take some courage. I'd be curious how that would go over in "the only democracy (lol) in the Middle East"...
Your next point, using the names of other artists that have performed there, is another reason I hope pj never plays there...I would hate to see pj used to promote an agenda of normalcy for an apartheid state.
It's not the artists making israel a social statement, it's the occupation that makes a social statement inherent to the decision to play there or not.

Israeli citizens have the ability to travel to see pj play in other countries. How does that work for Palestinians living under israeli control and illegal collective punishment?

  • Damn! You are right. And you are right. And so are you! Fuck politics. Pearl jam isn't even a big political band. They made one political album, and eddie gets wasted on stage and mumbles some shit. Who f'n cares. If Pearl Jam played in Israel, does that influence or change my life? Fuck no. If they don't does it? Fuck no. Could they sell out to 20,000 plus and play for some fans? Of course. Stop arguing why they should or shouldn't. I hope they will and make 20,000 people have one of the greatest nights of their lives. Stop being so damn stubborn headed in your own opinions and argue why some fans shouldn't ever be able to see them. Get over yourselves, it's fucking music.

Stop arguing why they should and shouldn't.....followed by your argument for why you think they should...so who needs toget over themselves?
read the last paragraph of my last post, and talk to me again about arguing whether SOME fans shouldn't ever get to see them...?
PS - it's about a lot more than music, to a lot of people.
PPS - tone it down, bud, your tantrums impress no one.

I simply said I don't give a shit and neither should anyone else if they were to play Pearl Jam. It's constant people like you with your one way expressive I'm always right that this world is turning into the shitter. Do yourself a favor, whenever you type up whatever response you want to that's going to prove whatever point you feel the need to make, stop, don't hit send and go fuck yourself cause it's tiresome of hearing from the "I've got a point to make so I'm right assholes", respectably such as yourself.

    Quoted for posterity ;)
That's not simply what you said, at all....
Sorry, but I don't think my opinion is any more important than the next guy's...which is why awareness is important...so thanks for the advice, but I won't shut up or go fuck myself at your request.
Me? I think people shutting up and telling each other to go fuck themselves is what has the world 'turning into the shitter', not reasoned opinion.
