Never thought I would hear a re recorded version of anything but this is special
Eastern Creek 95,Syd 1 98,Bris 2 98, Syd 1&2 03, Reading Fest 06, Bris 1 06, London 09, Hyde Park 10, Gold Coast BDO 14 Budapest 22 Krakow 22 Amsterdam 22 St Paul 1&2 23 Chicago 1&2 23 Chicago 1&2 24 New York 1 24 Philly 1&2 24 Boston 1&2 24 Gold Coast 24 Melbourne 1 24 Sydney 1&2 24
Sounds great. I totally dig it. For some reason I was expecting it to be more different than the original in some structural way. Its pretty much exactly the same with just a new vocal recording right? And the vocals are all in the same spots and timing.. its just more in his modern voice without the "early 90's steriotypical Vedder" delivery.
Which is nice but I really thought it would have been sped up or slowed down or glitzed up in some fashion. Did I miss anything? Just checking. All that being said I want to have this in my collection
i was thinking it was just a re-worked or different take of the original. Not hearing a more "Modern Voice"...then again my ears ain't what they used to be.
I also feel like a lot of it is a re-arrangement of the original. Almost as if it is mostly the older vocal track with a few small changes to make it slightly different.
Um... its probably just audio from soundcheck or a live show that they used for it..
Um...definitely not. If you listen, he clearly recorded his vocals over the old instrumentals (or possibly updated instrumentals). Either way its not a live version or live vocals being used at all.
..late but still enjoying it big times!
Thanks PJradio for the post aka special gift, that brings some happyness and maybe even hope...
...to find "the release" sometime
maybe it works now, the re- recording, this version, is defenately a good start for another try
...and guess what is on PJ Radio just right now: Release in Manchester 2008
there is no way to peace, peace is the way!
...the world is come undone, I like to change it everyday but change don't come at once, it's a wave, building before it breaks.
22 years after the original.....the man can freaking still SING.

I listed to it carefully, and it definitely is NOT a live/concert version.
It's nowadays Ed singing the 1991 song Release. You can hear the 'Into the Wild' growls/high notes during this version. The text order is different than the 1991 song, but I didn't hear any new lines.

In everyone's various opinions, what is the best live version(s) of "Release"?
1st one that came to mind & the fact that I just posted in that thread...is an oldie. ATL '94
I would agree. The live 3 cd dissident set (which is from Atlanta '94) set the tone for me on that song, so if I want a pretty kickass live version of Release it's the one I always go back too.....

Atlanta 94 is great.
I also like Tokyo 2003. Ed sounds so damn good on the vocals, and they are very clear since there is very little crowd noise (Tokyo crowd) in the background
My favorite version is from Boston 5/17/2010, just something about the drumming in that version...I love the Atlanta '94 version too but that is my favorite.

Call me a cynic but I'm gonna guess this was re-recorded because it's cheaper to do that than pay Epic/Sony to use the original?...That's usually the reason why so many movies have classic songs re-recorded by current artists (admittedly not often by the same band)....

Sort of the problem of modern movie going. It's expensive to go out and see a movie at the theatre. People tend to go see the big epic blockbusters in the theatre and watch most everything else at home.... At least that's what I do. I don't bother going to the Theatre for smaller movies but something big and epic I tend to want to see on a big IMAX screen. Obviously some people go, but the trend seems to be the non-blockbuster movies struggle a bit more ever year.
I know I'm way behind the times with this, but if anyone can link me to the mp3 of this (the one earlier in the thread is down) then I would be very grateful. I tried to buy it but I can't find anywhere where it's actually available. Thanks!

Sure. PM sent!
Hopefully Ed does release these songs officially on CD or vinyl.

I would love a copy of this. Any chance you can share?

It's a good movie. Dark. Usually these movies don't make a lot of money at the box office
