I saw him standing in the tunnel next to section 120.

  • One thing I loved about last night that no one has noted here is Ed's speech about how where they live in Washington both gay marriage and marijuana are legal. He then said something like "we haven't had any problems with it up there, come on Arizona - hint hint". He has a great way of pointing out something we might need to improve on without being rude about it.

I first saw PJ 20 years ago at the Mesa Amphitheatre, smashed up against the fence in the front watching Stone play. I saw them again in 2003 at the pavilion, then again last night. I have been to many concerts over the past 20 years and there is no question that PJ is the last great rock show. If PJ puts out a concert DVD from this tour, Phoenix should be the show. There were so many great moments and PJ played their asses off (no less than 100%, of course). But defying the curfew and playing after the venue turned the lights on has to be a highlight of any tour!

    Thanks PJ and Eddie,

My grandson's first concert, drove up to spokane to get him on Friday and we get back this morning... and he gets his favorite song played "Mind your manners", his second fav "Release" gets a tamborine from Eddie and a hung from Ed'd wife Jill. Also Eddie tried to hook him with back stage passes for his daughter... in jest.

    We have a story...

    :D

My wife and I were along the reserved seats row A near where you and your family were rocking out. That little guy sure seemed to be having fun for a good portion of the show. I want to commend you for standing there holding him for an hour while he was taking a break (sleeping). Somehow the two seats next to us were empty all night. We regretted not having security get you two up there so the little guy could rest more comfortably.

I'll also commend you for trying to let him keep sleeping when Ed summoned the kids to the side of the stage. It sounds like it was a good move to wake him and I hope he was glad to get up there and get a hug.

Just out of curiosity, I thought there were quite a lot of cameras there for 2 small screens. Could it be that they are filming it (or their shows) for a DVD?

  • One of the best shows I've seen so far this tour.
Got up at the crack of dawn (who am I kidding, dawn was no where near yet) to get in line for GA. Big thanks to the ten club and the venue for running things so smoothly. After some initial issues and confusion, they finally settled on lining us up at a different, closer gate (good thing we had the list going). We were walked single file, and anyone who tried to hop out or make a run for it was swiftly kicked to the back of the line.
Ended up on the rail in front of Ed with my boyfriend (birthday boy from Philly). It was cool to get looks of recognition and waves from the band members.
Opening with Long Road... I cried like a baby. Eddie saw me and reached down to hand me a pic, unfortunately the security guard ignored Ed's request to pass it over. Oh well, I'm just glad that he saw how important that song was for me. Then, Release. More tears. It was beautiful.
First set was tight. Infallible, Low Light, WMA!!!!!
Then, the first encore. I just... Wow. Bee Girl?? WHAT? I thought that was my treat for the night, but nope, up next: AROUND THE BEND. The song I adore and thought I'd never hear. I cried out of pure happiness. Could it get any better? Apparently! HARD TO IMAGINE AND FOOTSTEPS. Good god. Bawled like a baby again. Down was great, one of my favorites. As soon as I heard the opening chords I regained an enormous amount of energy and jumped like crazy.
Rocked my ass off during the last encore. I had such a good time. Indifference to close, always beautiful.
Thanks to 10C and Pearl Jam for allowing GA in the US. I love it. Great show, great vibes.
  • Amazing show and set list. Really happy to see the crowd was into it (at least from where my wife and I were). Really couldn't ask for much more in a set. Heard a bunch of songs I've always wanted to hear live (down, footsteps, hard to imagine, alone, half full). Incredible show. How can they top this in San Diego? Can't wait to see them try!

The PJ20 screenings included a free video bootleg download of a show from this tour, so I'm assuming that they're going to be selling DVD's and digital video files of the shows later on. A lot more work on editing video and sound than engineering an audio bootleg, so likely why nothing has been released yet. I just wonder if they'll decide to do every single show or only release ones they like.

  • Drove in from San Diego for the show last night. I've seen them dozens of times and they never disappoint. The set list was damn near perfect.

Opening with Long Road->Release->Low Light was incredible. By far the best trifecta ever when opening up a show.

Looking forward to San Diego tomorrow night and LA 1 on Saturday!!

Flew over to the US from Australia for 2 shows on this tour, Charlotte & Phx.

Had a great time in Charlotte but last nite was just awesome. The first encore was such a highlight. Around the Bend and H2I were probably top 5 on songs I hadn't heard yet.

Apart from missing Parting Ways by one show, I can't complain with what we got last nite!

I can only hope my kid in 5 years from now will go to a PJ show with me when he's 7! And when Ed called you out to come to the side of the stage and relieve your shoulders I was truly stoked for you guys. Not sure if you remember after the show, but I told you we could see your smile from ear to ear from where we were standing. Good for you man!

I have to write this. And this seems like the best place to write it and it possibly make it into Ed and Jill's hands. If someone could pass it along to Ed and Jill, it would be greatly appreciated. So... here goes.

First off, I want to thank Ed for the invitation to the side of the stage. Second, Thank you Jill for taking Bethany and getting her a bottle of water and a seat right next to the stage, talking with her, and giving her your sweater when she started to get cold and for just being absolutely awesome. At that point of the night, she had just run out of gas. She was tired, thirsty, sweaty, just plain uncomfortable and wanted to go home to bed. She wouldn't say this to me because of our talks about what to expect if she came to the show with me and what I expected from her, but I knew what was going on. This amazing display of generosity and kindness was above and beyond anything that I could have ever imagined. I realize that I pushed the envelope in bringing her to this show. Some would say that the GA floor of a Pearl Jam concert is no place for a 7 year old. Obviously, I disagree. Maybe 10, 15, 20 years ago... :D My daughter absolutely loves music. In fact, we joke that we live in a house that is a Glee reality show because of her turning EVERYTHING into a song. After my only GA PJ experiences in Missoula last year and Pittsburgh to open this tour, I felt that I could get away with it. And what better first concert experience than Pearl Jam from right in front of the stage?!?!?!? Since I got her Lightning Bolt, she has been listening to it pretty much exclusively. So while it may be the 10th for the rest of us, Lightning Bolt is PJ album #1 for her. In the last week, I gave her a copy of Ten to listen to. This morning when she was getting dressed, I heard Porch blasting from her room. I think she is hooked. So, Ed, thanks for thinking of my shoulders. Jill, thanks for taking care of my little girl. You two kept an absolutely incredible evening from turning sour at the end and instead turned an already incredibly memorable night into... well... something that words just can't describe. So, again... Thank You!

As for me, getting pulled up to the side of the stage for an encore at a Pearl Jam show? To say that I was as giddy as a school girl would just be cliche. It was obvious that I was more giddy than the school girl. At that point in the night, she was just glad to be sitting down with a bottle of water.

Walking out of the arena, it seemed as if everyone recognized Bethany as "The Girl". She got high fives from people and some even stopped and asked her to take a picture with them. So, walking out the door this morning to go to school (yes she went to school today), I asked Bethany how my little Rock Star was feeling this morning. She gave me a 1 word response. "Famous". This just made me smile and tell her that I love her. And think... How in the hell am I going to answer the questions when she starts asking about Bee Girl?

  • I had an amazing time last night. I was in GA about 10 deep on Stone's side. Great view and I walked in maybe 45 minutes before they took the stage.

The encore was the obvious highlight. I loved that Eddie noted (I think before Around the Bend) that "this next one is for the serious collector..." and then followed that with "well these next few." When Around the Bend started my jaw dropped. And then "the next few" reference really hit when HTI started.

After HTI, Eddie looked over toward Stone and said, "let's do the next one too, which happened to be Footsteps. And then Alone. Incredible.

San Diego tomorrow. Can not wait.

Thanks PJ for an incredible set. It was unbelievable.

There are no words for how amazing this show was. I'm still processing it (and trying to find my voice as well!)

If anyone got any photos of Mike at the end playing to the rail, or of when he laid his head on my chest (!!!!!!!), please, please, please let me know. I would do just about anything to have that moment captured forever.

You can also get a review of the show from the local newspaper ~ I didn't realize that lights came (and stayed) on b/c of a curfew that was supposed to shut the show down at 11:

I don't think it was because of a curfew, they always turn the lights on for indifference.

Also, I remember arriving into Phoenix at 7:30 am at hitting rush hour traffic after 25 hours of straight driving from Spokane and thinking, "OK. I think after this show, I am gonna be done with PJ for a while. I am burnt out and too old for this kinda effort for my daughter and grandson." I specifically remember the thought. Then as I was driving home from the Coyotes house last night, taking a wrong exit and wasting another 20 minutes dropping them off, "That was soooooooooo worth it. I would do it all again, TOMORROW!"

It was the first concert I have ever attended where I was completely satisfied with everything. I mean, I am always happy with PJ shows and a lot of other shows I have attended, but I would always selfishly think if they could play a different song, or a longer set, or if I had better seats or if I had more interaction with the band, you know, dumb stuff.

Not last night. It was perfect.

kinda happy they are off the night before and the night after. Made for a really fun show.

What a beautiful story all around! I still have goosebumps. Love/Nurture. The gifts that keep on giving. I grew up in a house filled with (vinyl) records on the player all the time. To this day, I still dance best with dad :) Elvis Presley was my first concert! I absolutely love it when I see parents and their children enjoy live shows together. My nephew is almost 7. Maybe I should bring him to the LA show w/me. Hmmm...Will ask his mom tomorrow. But if he gets cranky, he'll have to wait in the car for me until the show is over (giggle giggle).

Can anyone work out what was the crossed out song in the second encore that STBC replaced?
