I don't think Unthought Known should be played this much

    Um, no. Not even close.
  • I'm apparently one of the few that actually likes Backspacer. Wish they'd spread the love, force of nature, amongs the waves, supersonic, gonna see my friend, all should be rotated with unthought known.

I also love Backspacer! I thought UK went over very well in Philly Tuesday night-our section was singing along very loudly (especially the "gems and rhinestones" part!)

Obviously, I would LOVE to hear Force of Nature someday. I will never give up hope! However, when I go to any PJ concert, I enjoy whatever they decide to play. I just feel grateful to be alive during their time and able to see them as many times as I have! :D

One of a handful that i have missed.
So I hope they pull it out in Hartford.
Ugh. One of the worst PJ songs ever written. I don't understand why anyone would ever want to hear it live.... this song collecting makes sense to a point, but not when people want to hear HORRIBLE songs just so they can say they saw it.

Oh OK because PJ Soul says the songs sucks then i should just change my mind and take your opinion for fact.
Come on anything PJ Soul says is correct no matter what.
In your clueless mind no one else can have a differnt view than you.
I enjoy the song and hope they play it at the next show you go to just to piss you off.

actually it appears you are in the slight majority, but that in itself proves it's point that it is not an overwhelmingly popular song, but in fairness to Ed I really think there was a strong possibility he put it in the setlists for his daughters who are with him on the trip or at least were for most of those shows, if I had kids and they wanted to hear a song I would probably put in there too

...which proves absolutely nothing. It's art, remember?
but in fairness to Ed I really think there was a strong possibility he put it in the setlists for his daughters who are with him on the trip or at least were for most of those shows, if I had kids and they wanted to hear a song I would probably put in there too

I'm (1) not sure what you're basing that on and (2) why it matters? Who knows if his daughters like any of their songs and why this one and if they're on the trip or if they're at the shows or if he's playing it for them or if he's playing it because he just likes to play it GOOD GRIEF MAN! Give it a rest!

It's just very unclear what point you're trying to make or why you're trying to make it. You don't like the song. Great. What does that have to do with Ed's daughters or the different lyrics of "Amongst The Waves" or the reason why Ed or the band play certain songs?

In all politeness, give it a rest.

all threads take tangents so and as someone who is willing to engage any one who wants to talk about Pearl Jam and I don't hate the song I think it would suck if it becomes a setlist regular, which I define as any song that gets played in at least 50% of the shows, because that comes at the expense of other songs, and as for the playing the song for his kids, because I am hoping that it is the case, because if it isn't it means that they intend on it being one of the more frequently played songs. and I am not sure why my opinion on anything would even matter to you, especially enough to respond

Some of you are just being mean in this thread, and getting personal just because of some comments others are making about a fucking song. I don't get it. You should think about how you are treating others though.

So why didn't you just say that? Why start the thread so antagonistically? And if your entire point was really that you just hope it's not a setlist regular, couldn't it have been stated that simply?

Was it necessary to call it a "kids song" or say he's playing it for his daughters?

I don't care that you have opinions or what they are. It is very tiring to see yet another thread started or written in a way that seems to be begging for argument.

If you really just wanted to say "I don't think this song should be played that much," you sure started things antagonistically. This place has enough of that. It doesn't need more.

And sure, I'll play forum police.

This isn't the first time this kind of thing has happened and you know it.

If you've got an opinion, that's wonderful. State it in a way that doesn't beg for argument. Who they play songs for is irrelevant.

And to preserve your topic integrity - for what it's worth: the band will play what they want to play. Get over it. See? I didn't even mention his daughters. ;)

    I like unthought known.

And me. I like it in the song when it crescendos to the gems and rhinestones line. It is a nice buildup, like in Given to Fly.

  • Love the song. My wife and I were at the EV solo show in Newark where he debuted it after writing it the night before in his hotel room. I think it's a great live song
