  • yea another band ruining punk rock. I thought boy bands were bad.

I think they were about as punk rock as my grandmother:rolleyes:
Halifax '05 was such an amazing night that I would love to see them play Halifax again. However, we were very lucky with our cross Canada tour last year so I guess they are off to other corners of the world... I may just have to run off to one of those to catch a show though ;)

Maybe they're saving the best for last and we'll get both Petty and PJ in Halifax in the 3rd leg. I know, I know, fat chance! Too bad PJ don't do festival-type shows in North America because Moncton would love a Petty/PJ bill. No question!

Good to see that I'm not the only one with my fingers crossed!!! The Magnetic Hill show has so far been nothing but a bunch of assumptions and rumours, who knows what'll happen. Having said that here's what I'm dreaming of, The Who-Tom Petty-Pearl Jam, what'd be wrong with that??

keep on dreamin' brother .. if this happens, i'll probably lose my job in the u.s.a. :)
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

Anyone have the latest news on the Magnetic Hill Concert???

Front page of the Halifax paper (Daily News) is saying how the city of Halifax is in talks with trying to bring the Rolling Stones here this year...

i haven't heard anything yet. it's been very hush hush. not like last year. everyone knew way in advance that the Stones were coming and the tickets went on sale in May.

i suppose it is still April, but then again, i'd like to know so i can book off a day or two of vacation in case it's someone good and i decide to go.

if i hear ANYTHING, even any rumours, i'll let you know.

    **edit**

i just saw something online about a big country *gag* concert in August.

btw...this thread comes up when you google magnetic hill concert..how odd!

I wouldn't mind seeing the Stones again, especially in the Maritimes. I saw them twice so far on this tour. I wonder where they would stage it. How many does Citadel Hill hold? It would be great to have it at the Metro Centre as it would be more of an intimate affair...as far as the Stones go. Tickets would sell super fast too! But at 10000 seats that would probably be too small for the band.

Personally, I didn't think that the Stones were planning to come back to North America on this tour. Nevertheless, I say bring it on!

As far as a big Moncton concert this year, it's as the posters mentioned above. Unbelievably quiet as far as media but certainly lots of rumours, Coldplay being the latest. And yes, there was talk of also having a country concert with Keith Urban, Brooks & Dunn, etc...Eck! The town of Shediac are also trying to plan a concert as well. Apparently, one of the bands they had been recruiting was Aerosmith but that is no longer possible. Anyway, just hoping for a great summer of concerts for the Atlantic provinces.

I think Citadel Hill can handle about 40,000...not quite sure. The last concert I remember was Tragically Hip and Our Lady Peace and there was a little over 30,000 and it seemed pretty full to me. I think if the Stones came, they'd look at doing it at the commons..which is where the pope had his mass years ago (ala Magnetic Hill)..so Im sure they'd consider that in terms of handling crowd. Or....plain ol Citadel Hill..which is an awesome place to see a show.

Who knows..I just know I can't wait to hear who it may be...
  • I would hope that if the stones play the hill that pearl jam opens for them.

i can't believe they didn't end up playing Light Years.

makes me kinda sad, then makes me feel guilty because i have no right to complain about the best night of my life.

maybe next time they'll play it.

Thing I noticed was they pretty much played all the songs from the playlist..aside from Light Years...that's a sign they were having a good time..and the crowd was keeping up with the flow.

like i posted in the other halifax thread, i have to go away for a few days and won't be around to bump the hfx threads up to where they belong, so if everyone could look after them the way you have been doing all along, we can keep the memory of the incredible HFX show alive and kicking.

Bump time...and I see that Moncton has announced one concert...I won't go in to details (country music)..but I wonder if there will even be a Rock one....
  • funkymonkfunkymonk Posts: 279
A big rock show is still being worked on but could still go either way. Sounds like their trying to book the Eagles. Wouldn't mind seeing a little Tom Petty and Pearl Jam here in Moncton.
  • swardsward Posts: 586
Man...the city of Moncton looks like they are going to blow a really cool precedent that the Stones concert could have set. I'm not going to knock a country concert in terms of music...because we all like what we like..but to follow up the Stones with Alan Jackson just seems like a step back. Hard to say I guess..but I felt that, while they didn't need a Stones size concert again, they at least needed to follow up with a big name act to help cement the seed they had planted.

Oh well....still time for something to happen. I don't love the Eagles..but they are at least a big enough name to keep this concert site in the public eye.

Word is there will be 2 big shows - a country and a rocker. Most of the hicks around here want AC/DC and that crap (did I say crap, I meant barf) but, hope against hope, Pearl Jam. Actually, the Eagles would be cool. Pearl Jam will not be anywhere near the end of N.A. any time soon, IMHO.

I don't know but U2 seems to be the favourite whenever I hear anyone talk about this show. The whole thing makes me kind of sick because there is a possibility that there may not even be a rock show if they are unable to book someone. There are apparently still negotiating with several "big name" acts to come here but nothing has been confirmed yet. Sorry for the negativity but it's kind of irritating.

Come on Halifax, maybe you can pull something off. Try booking PJ again or getting the Chili Peppers.
  • Come on PJ... Stopping in Halifax before heading to Europe only makes sense, right? I'll even have you all over for a home cooked meal....
    The in-between is mine....

I know this is a little off topic but I thought since something similar worked for Pearl Jam, maybe the same could work for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. As many of you may be aware, the Peppers have released a list of places they will be playing this tour and like the excessive number of bands before them don't seem to realize that there are parts of Canada beyond Quebec. So far, they are only coming as far east as Quebec City.

If any of you Eastern Canadian rabid PJ fans are also fans of the Peppers, like myself, there is currently a thread on the Peppers message board titled, "Come to Eastern Canada". It's designed to get the band to travel a little further east. So if you're interested in seeing a Red Hot Chili Peppers show in the Maritimes (preferably Halifax) travel on over to their site, http://www.redhotchilipeppers.com, register for free message board access and show your support. The above mentioned thread is in the "Road Trippin" section of their message board.

  • I'm shaking all over after reading about the possible Moncton show; I totally relate to whoever said the Halifax show was the single greasest experience of their life. And stopping here just before/after Europe would make sense, I've been thinking that since legs 1 & 2 were announced.
    PLEASE Pearl Jam, come back!

i was bummed when i saw that it's a country show in moncton.

there could be more, since it's scheduled for July, so i'm not giving up hope that something better might come along.

as for Halifax...i'll never give up hope. if they can play there once, they will play there again. maybe not this tour, maybe not the next. but they will come again.

  • I think if Halifax gets the common wealth games their might be a new arena built, so that might bring more big shows like pj back. I still think they will play this tour tho.
Things were different then. All is different now.
    I tried to explain. Somehow.
