If this was happening with Vancouver's mayor I'm pretty sure the uproar and protests would be so intense he'd be forced to resign.... probably would have happened a long time ago. I don't really understand what's going on in Toronto, but even if everyone is disgusted, the overlying apathy about this guy is stunning. If Torontarians think this is how things would have gone in any other city, they're mistaken.
i'm not sure what you're getting at ...
but it's like this here ... this guy doesn't actually do anything (now, we know what he does) ... council has been running the city since he began his term ... he's lost almost all of his battles except the subway extension ... so, our options are to spend a bunch of money the city doesn't have only to oust a guy who isn't doing anything and to have someone come in with an interim title ... we have like 1 year to go until the election ... let's just get there ...
if this guy was actually fucking up the city - it would be one thing but all he is doing is embarrassing us which i can live with ... everyone hates us anyways ... haha ... but why waste precious dollars trying to remove this guy who ultimately is benign in city affairs ...0 -

I think that whole idea is solely generated by TO'ers themselves.
If what you're saying is true, that is disturbing to me. Being so indifferent to having a completely corrupt, criminal, lying mayor just because he barely does anything generally means that ko one cares about the potential damage he could do, the potential damage he could possibly be doing behind the scenes, and the almost inevitable damage he's doing to the future of politics in Ontario, not to mention the kind of message this sends to other less savoury politicians as well as the population in general. If what you're saying is how everyone really feels, I think the general apathy is even worse than I thought..... Wow, is there some kind of Toronto vacuum happening here, preventing everyone from having a clear perspective on the matter??With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. well ... first of all ... you have to be a torontonian to know what it's like ... my friend actually got booed at a wedding in Winnipeg ... and as someone who has been almost everywhere in canada ...
http://news.nationalpost.com/2011/11/09 ... ir-cities/
as to the second part ... not sure what to say ... the guy is a lying, lazy, right wing crack and alcohol addict ... but he has no power or at least very little ... everything has to go thru council and he loses every thing he wants ... and politics in ontario has its own problems without him ... he's not going to make it any worse here ...
there is a lot of apathy here ... i won't argue that ... all i'm really saying is that to remove this guy from office would be a net loss for torontonians because of the cost ... millions of dollars on legal fees and a shut down city council ... that's no good for anyone ... as someone who is politically active and who lives here ... i'm not sure how you can pass judgement on my clarity but go ahead ...0 -

TORONTO IS CANADA’S LEAST LIKED CITY
Ontario’s capital not only had the lowest rate of positive responses, it also had the highest rate of “very negative” responses. “Many Canadians have a hate-on for Toronto,” said Myer Siemiatycki, a Ryerson University politics professor. “Toronto is regarded as totally self-indulgent, so there’s a sort of ‘Who do they think they are believing they’re the centre of the country and the universe?’” Jim Milway, executive director of the Martin Prosperity Institute at the Rotman School of Management, said the poorer perception of Toronto — 19% of respondents gave negative responses — is due to animosity more than anything else. “It’s not necessarily that people like their city more than Toronto,” he said. “It’s that people just don’t like Toronto, period.” Prof. McGrane, of the University of Saskatchewan, said the “grudge” is rooted in historic grievances, particularly harboured by westerners who have long felt “left out.” “It’s not that we hate (Torontonians), but we’re a bit suspicious about them and their motives,” he said.0 -
Yeah, I am fully aware of this perception... but I don't agree with this conclusion. I think that everyone is totally aware of this idea, and it's not that people feel any animosity. I think it's more that everyone sees the perception that everyone hates Toronto as a big joke, and they run with it as a joke because they know that TO gets off on thinking be very one hates them
. But in the end, no one actually gives a shit. not even a little one. That's what's going on out west anyway... maybe the prairies are more insecure and feel more actual animosity?? Huh... never thought about it so much before - more complicated than most people would bother imagining, because no one cares.

You sound like you know everything....but I would expect nothing less from a Vancouverite.
Don't mind me, just feeling insecure over here in the prairies.0 -

Don't mind me, just feeling insecure over here in the prairies. The prairies comment was an honest question, not a statement. Middle canada being insecure is not something i've ever perceived, so juat asked that question because that article appeared to come out of winnipeg or something. I also pretty clearly wrote "I think" in there, which would indicate that this is all just what my own perceptions are, so I am not sure what the know-it-all jab is about.... just seems kind of a mean thing to say to me.

Around these parts Toronto is more commonly know as "the centre of the Universe".

No actually I don't ever get tired it, especially since they raised taxes and wasted billions. Because if you ever want the socialist society you advocate for then governments need to quit wasting billions. Like I said before Ford keeps us entertained ... So yes i will hope he gets reelectedI have certain rules I live by ... My First Rule ... I don't believe anything the government tells me ... George Carlin
