with no macho slanders or anti gun statements what do you think keeps our country free from military attacks or take overs, the simple answer is "military Tech" and the Men and Women who invent and serve.

Well Canada isn't about to invade and Mexicans have already taken back most of the land they lost.

We'll see every body else coming from far away because of those oceans that separate us from the rest of the world.

Seems to me if we just protect our borders we'd be fine.

Why ask us a question, only to give us the "simple answer" before anyone can answer.
Your mind is made up, so this obviously will not lead to any kind of intelligent debate or conversation.

I'll give you my answer anyway. My answer is "diplomacy". At times, we (the U.S.) make it work better
    than others.
I would also throw in there, that a "shit ton of spending" (far more than we need to spend) helps a whole
    helluva lot too.

And yes, the brave men and women that put on that uniform everyday and put their ass on the line.

Now answer a question for me please?
Even if we cut our Military manpower down drastically, do you think any other country would actually attack us with the military and try to take us over?
The answer to that question is simply, "hell no".
    Peace, Love.

Freedom is the reason for it all man. There is always someone waiting in the wings. Individual freedom
and rights, basic rights. Rights worth fighting for. People worth fighting for. Support those who fight for us.

After serving my time in the military, at times I think of freedom with this album on my mind.....

Our military is too often taken for granted. It is too easy to listen to casualty numbers on the news and to become desensitized. Every fallen soldier equals a shattered family that mourns and will never be the same. We think of our freedom as a given. It is not and many have fought and died to protect and preserve it.

That and the natural borders as BinauralJam said.

And of course the men and women....

Historically it was the fact that America was geographically isolated without any geographic competitors, if the confederacy stayed separate its likely you would have a very different picture

I see you started a thread on this because of the discussion going on in the locked thread. I do find this interesting, but dont assume or get confused that people against over zealous patriotism do not appreciate the military and/or military technology. I know it's place and appreciate it for what it is..

Just because we appreciate subtle power and diplomacy doesnt mean we think, as you suggested, that "love in's and bong loads" keep us free. Possibly the silliest comment I've seen on here in awhile. But you used a ;) , so its fine I guess..

sure we are not as bad off as we could be but we are not free, we are kind of free.

D.C. is a rigged system. the wealthy rule. the poor do without, which is fine i guess. most all of the political bullshit in today's offices is a corrupt fucking joke. all the GW & Cheney years are a disaster, that election was a fucking scam.

the more & more time goes by the more i feel we are imprisoned, and we are. many other nations in the world have more freedoms than we do.

Its an important question I think, because as The Wolf said in a previous post, most would have to be crazy to attack us... so any attack will be unconventional... unless North Korea actually loses its marbles, but that's not gonna happen either (i hope)

    dear godfather,

beings you & i & others do enjoy being kind of free. why do you give marijuana users such a rashin of shit? i mean, in your mind we are totally free yet you poke sticks at people smoking marijuana which is not legal in most states. why do you hammer hammer hammer & hammer the marijuana user? this is not freedom & you are not free. you are actually bound to your job like a fly stuck on fly tape hanging from the ceiling & you are upset people use a plant

what i'm saying is if you (we) were truly 100% free you wouldn't worry about it ("it", the plant you condemn everyday on pearl jam)

I don't mind that people smoke pot if that's what they want, I really don't,my real concern is the dangers conected to pot, I can tell you with first hand knoledge that there are some real dangers that come with pot, the dealers, the suppliers, the shoot out's over turf and product, dead friends, friends in prison or have been to prison because they did something stupid to protect their investment.

I'm not some old time cowboy who dislikes pot because it's hippie bullshit I've seen things and experianced thing's I wish I had not and over what ? a stupid bag of friggin weed ?
the world of weed and drugs is a very scary world once you've entered into the dealers and drug lords world you become locked in and used for what ever you're worth be it money, resourses, your home or your family.

weed itself is harmless enough but if you know the story from the begining all the way to the dime bag in your pocket you'll know what it took to get there, the people that died or went to prison for the cash and terf that they operated.

I know that sounds a little extreme but those are the facts and Ijust don't want anything to do with it and maybe my opinion on weed might be agressive but I have earned it, I have been clean over 20 years, I know a guy who just got out of prison he is my age now (early 50's) and went into prison for drug related crimes at 19 years old and I think back and have to ask myself why ?...money,drugs, weed ??? over 30 years of wasted time he will never get back.

:fp: sorry for the story but you asked bro.

yes it was an attack on our country and thats why we went to war, reguardless of what people say about the war or Bush plain and simple we retaliated and killed the man believed to be reponsible for funding and planning the attack, if people think it was wrong or right to retaliate that's up to them.

nobody said they couldn't post their views and idea's of freedom in their countries , infact I would like to hear about it,I'm sure they are just as happy in their countries as I am in mine so insted of using the old stand-by of ragging on fox viewers why don't you try something original for yourself and find out what people think about freedom in their countries.

    First off... Explain 'Freedom'.
I mean, are we really 'Free''? Are you free to do whatever you want... or are you chained to a 40 hour week job? You are chained to the job in pursuit of money... but, what do you spend your money on? Things you want... or things you need? Unchain yourself from your job and you lose your money and without your money you lose your ability to obtain, not only the things you want, but the things you also need. Are you free to choose to do whatever you want? What is meant by, 'Freedom'?
    ...
Anyway, besides that... it seems to me that most people confuse freedom and patriotism with militarism and war. There seems to be a failure to understand that a Patriot can believe profoundly in the founding principles of our nation and still be against the corporate machinery that uses our military to enforce our will on other people. There are a lot of people throughout the world living lives similar to ours, but are not paying a ton of taxes in military expenditures... but, i suppose, to the ones that believe killing people solves problems and creates freedom...those 'other' people don't count.

    Mr Freedom - Clutch

Phantoms of the second civil war
    You gather them around
And every time you open up your mouth,
A load of horseshit comes flying right back out
    Flying right back out

Mr. Freedom big time talker, oh but thank you very much but no
Mr. Freedom big time talker, oh but thank you very much but no

    Serious business on your lapel
Let the people, know how you feel
And every bumper sticker on the back of your car
Makes you feel a little more real,
    A little more real

Mr. Freedom big time talker, oh but thank you very much but no
Mr. Freedom big time talker, oh but thank you BUT NO!

I bet you would like nothing better
Than for the shit to hit the fan
And from the safety of your arm chair,
Properly lay those plans that no one else but you can possibly understand

Mr. Freedom big time talker, oh but thank you very much but no
