I would have, but now I see that the vinyl still isn't even available. :( Not even on his own website.... That's strange.

    Hmm... :?:
I'm thinking there must be some kind of problem with the manufacturing or something.

Very strange indeed... However, he could def give us some information, even if he tends to be busy as hell...

Joe played WXPN's Free at Noon in Philly today. I was lucky enough to score a guitar pick. He is still using the picks from RNDM. I tried to attack a picture but I am not technically advanced enough to pull it off.

    Update from Joe yesterday:
    The David Letterman Show!

    Hello Everyone!

First and foremost I just want to say that we are trying our absolute best to get everyone’s items shipped out in a timely manner – we are 64% of the way there and we know each and everyone of you that we still owe items to. Please don’t think anything has been lost in the mail; it’s just a major undertaking to arrange all of this, sign the items, and ship everything, on top of releasing and promoting the record, touring, etc!!!! We hope to have everything in the mail in the next two weeks, and that includes the vinyl that we’ve waited a long time for, as it takes much longer to manufacture than CDs.

Ok, now onto the fun stuff…..

My wonderful band and I played the Late Show with David Letterman the other night! If you haven’t seen the performance, you can do so here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtJbbeFotg4

We’ve also embedded a backstage video into this update .

I hope you enjoy the clips.

The US tour last month was great fun! Thanks to everyone who came out and if you like, you can purchase some of the shows over here:

    http://set.fm/search?utf8=✓&query=joseph+arthur

We played the new record in its entirety every night and it went over very well,
discovering new layers of the songs and new ways to bring them across.

We’re gearing up to go over to England later this month and perform at the WOMAD Festival and we’re about to announce a full October tour of Europe so stay tuned for that. And for those of you in Canada, we have a few new tour dates in Quebec starting next month.

Thank you for spreading the word about the album! It really helps. Don’t be afraid to share the links of the videos we post or things like the Letterman performance. You are our street team so thank you! Also, everything is still very much alive and active with the Pledge campaign and there are still a lot of great and special items available!

Ok, that’s all for now – thanks everyone. You’ll hear from me again once all the items are delivered, which won’t be long now. Thanks again for your patience and support.

    Much love,
    Joseph

To be honest, this is kind of lame. The record has been "released" for over a month now and the pledge campaign was set up months ago.

He should be able to find time to sign and ship the items in a couple of weeks.

I know he wants to promote the album etc, but he got my money and I want my stuff... Come on J!

I agree. I have trouble criticizing JA because I think he's so great, but I think at this point I have to admit that it's pretty fucking flaky.

If it's half as good as Act I then there could be 2 Joseph Arthur records at the top of my "Best of 2013" list :D

I agree!!! "Ballad Of Boogie Christ" is probably my favorite of the year..and I can't wait for Act 2. Curious about the "Travel as Equals" because I love that song!
Rico, have you heard Joe's Daytrotter session? Most sessions on there are only 3 or 4 songs but Joe's was a 10 song set. You can find it here http://www.daytrotter.com/#!/concert/joseph-arthur/20055379-3642

I emailed customer service through the Joseph Arthur website store since that doesn't have any vinyl either, so I'm assuming it's not just about JA getting around the signing shit, but, rather, some problem with getting any of the vinyl. The people from the JA store said (among other friendly things :) ):

"While we at the online store didn't handle the pledge drive, we are currently checking with management as to the status of the vinyl. We'll let you know as soon as we find out the answer."

.... So.... you'd think that 2 months after release, they would have already heard from management about this, but anyway, I'll post it if they ever do get back to me.

Actually I'm a little confused. i thought the vinyl was supposed to be released in June as well and not in Sep as stated by the admin of the pledge campagin.

Could this mean we get a Act 1-2 2LP? This is how it going to be released on Real World:

Would be cool but doubtful. The double LP is for Europe

    "Hello from PledgeMusic,

Joseph Arthur has marked your pledge as shipped. This means that all physical items should have been shipped and any special events should have occurred, unless you’ve made some special arrangement with the artist to do them at a later date.

If your pledge has not been properly fulfilled or you do not receive your exclusives in the 7 days (or 30 days if it was an international shipment) please let us know on your pledge page and we’ll put you in contact with the artist who is responsible for all shipment."

So, another 30 days waiting begins then...

I FINALLY got the signed album! :D Can't wait to play it when I get home!!

One little gripe.... The packaging isn't great. It's just the album, unsealed of course, since it's signed, in a cardboard vinyl box. Not even a protective plastic sleeve, no foam wrap, nothing. Therefore, the corners of the jacket are a little bit crushed/rounded..... Oh well. Still cool. He didn't do his self-portrait with his signature unfortunately (he did on my RNDM album in person, and on my signed Graduation Ceremony I think), but anyway, it's a sweet album, and I'm VERY happy that is on only 1 LP rather than 2!

Mine arrived in Sydney this morning. I know what you mean about the packaging, there are a few bends on the corners of the sleeve on mine too. They could have at least put a "Fragile - do not bend" sticker on it or something. Never mind, I'll be happily spinning this when I get home in a couple of hours' time :D

I've just found another problem with the vinyl - it only has 11 songs! 'I Miss The Zoo' is missing from the album completely, there's no mention of it on the sleeve and no lyrics (although the information in "The Players" section still refers to tracks 1 to 12).

Also, 'It's Ok To Be Young/Gone' is listed on the sleeve and the labels as being the first song on Side 2, when it's actually the last song on Side 1.

It's still my favourite record of the year but it's really disappointing that the vinyl is incomplete :(

I've seen this a lot with smaller labels. Even though the official track listing contains all the songs, they have to remove one or two songs, because if they didn't they'd have to put the album on 2LPs instead of one, which increases the cost of production a LOT. And no, they don't tend to advertise it... if they did, they'd probably sell less records, which they can't afford. When I bought an album by The Zolas it was missing 2 songs from the vinyl listing online so I emailed them to see if it was a typo or what, and the lead singer replied and explained this to me, and also that it kills the musicians to do it, but in their situation as a lesser known band with relatively limited funds (the same situation JA is in right now - I think his financial situation is kind of tough, hence the pledge drive and the apologies that came with it), they don't have much of a choice. I don't really mind... I have "I Miss The Zoo" digitally. I did not notice that "It's Okay to be Young" was on the side where it's not listed though. Someone must have said, "Oh shit.... Oops!" Again, I doubt they could afford to change it once they realized the mistake.

Yeah, I know the drill. I would rather have a full 140g record than a half full 180g.
But the manufacturing costs for a double album would be covered in this case.
We did pay 40$ (+ 5$). Not many double records cost that much.

Btw, Does anyone know if the version of "I miss the Zoo" is the same as on "Redemption City"?

If so, no harm done... ;)

If so, no harm done... ;)
Yeah, the manufacturing costs would be covered (but I only paid $35), but there wouldn't be much left over... He still needed to earn a bit of money, pay all the backup vocals and musicians, the studio, etc etc etc. You're right - I would much rather be missing one song than have sides on a double LP with only 2 songs on it.

No, the version on Redemption city is different. The new version is more acoustic (and better IMO, not that they aren't both great). But I would assume he chose that song to delete because it was on RC.... If it had been up to me, I would have deleted a different song, like Wait for Your Light or Black Flowers. Oh well.

Very valid point. This was a pledge, aiming to raise money so he definitely should have money over other than covering the cost of manufacturing the albums.
